IndieGogo - Windows 10 GPD Handheld -299$ "A Laptop Fitting in Your Pocket"

So apparently if you are in the EU and order it through Gearbest or Banggood using the "Priority " shipping option, it won't stop in the customs.

Torment: Tides of Numenera runs decently on it. Certainly quite playable, and the largest font option works well for the UI/reading.

Always wondered how the PC version of trails in the sky looks on this. I'd imagine it'd be hard to read since it uses speech bubbles instead of dialogue boxes.

I think I'm finally going to post a proper It for the device tomorrow. Any ideas for the title?
Needs some reference to playing Steam and PC games on the go. This current title is a little less clear about that.

Guys yesterday my gpd win arrived! Yeah!

Premise, i just played it for few minutes and i didn't do any optimization.

First the cons:
-all the gamepad buttons are meh(the Y on the Y button is even a little rotated lol) but i adapted fast
-it becomes sligtly warm(with the fan off)
-it's a pc, even if starting a game is as easy as double cliking on a link on the desktop, it doesn't feel as a console, also i don't know if there's a sleep function as good as on vita.
-there's the need for some adjustments(for example setting a bigger font dimension)
-maybe it's a slightly heavier than my oled vita.

now the pros:
-the keyboard is really good
-the screen is really really good
-I don't know if before or after putting the screen luminosity at 0 and the fan off, but when i put the pointer on the battery icon(i wasn't playing obviously) it said 13 hours!!!!!!!!!! I need to see this again.
-I have only played a top down shooter called Renegade Ops that honestly i didn't even know but i got for free and it already felt like a next gen compared to vita, it runs perfectly and on that screen it's really gorgeous!

I can't wait to try more games! :D

I think I'm finally going to post a proper It for the device tomorrow. Any ideas for the title?

Something like:
Handheld master race

Imo it makes clear that the gpd win is a handhled pc
and that title will annoy all those who don't have a gpd win lol

Any way to run project 64 in full screen ? As long as I put 1280/720 in full screen mode , it goes portrait

Anyone knows whats up with Project 64 and VA-11 HAll-A?

Both seem not to work properly on full screen, I think it has to do with the default screen orientation, which is weirdly on portrait.

I can't get RE4 to run full screen with lower resolutions, any idea about that?

Anyone here did the clickable sticks mod?

Debated it and I don't think its worth it.
It requires leaving the joystick mounting screws loose and those things are not designed to move up and down on the mounting screw threads.
Eventually something will break.

That's weird. I haven't tried VA-11 HALL-A yet, but PJ64 works for me. Do you have the screen orientation locked?

For RE4, did you add another resolution as a profile through the Intel control panel?

Some questions:
-how to turn off the screen?
-what's the key near the right arrow?
-the key FN is used with the F1-F12 right? what are their functions?
-how to play win95 games?

Some questions:
-how to turn off the screen?
I don't know of a way other than either closing the lid or doing it in software.
-what's the key near the right arrow?
The context menu key? It's on every Win95 and later keyboard ;)
-the key FN is used with the F1-F12 right? what are their functions?
FN allows you to use the F keys (since it's a 5 row keyboard)
-how to play win95 games?
That depends on the individual game.

Guys beware of the chinese power adapter, mine doesn't look reliable, in fact the gpd win was getting warm while recharging, I'll buy another

Thanks, the contex key looks a little different and it's in a different position in my notebook, maybe that's why i didn't recognize it lol

Do any of you use some of those tiny USB pens for storage? Anyone can recommend one that doesn't get overly hot while playing from it?

I'm trying to find more info about it and if they will make it available for purchase for everyone or if its limited but on Baidu they are having an campaign to create a new catchy slogan for GPD and the winner will receive the aluminum shell that they showed off at one point way back in the campaign before it had a fan.
I'm hoping they've started making them and its not just leftovers from when they made several cause I really want to get my hands on one.

I'm using one of the Samsung Evo ones. Had to file it down some because it fit in kind of weirdly otherwise. Haven't had any heat issues, but I haven't played any game off of it for too long a period of time either. The big issue that I've had with it is that switching control modes sometimes seems to cut the USB signal out or refreshes it or something - not sure how that would impact gameplay if at all, but it's worth keeping in mind.

I haven't had any issues with a Micro SD, but the read speed apparently caps out at 40MB/s? I've been running Fallout: New Vegas off of it without any apparent issues so far, getting 360-like performance. If you find yourself having issues with USB, it's worth keeping that in mind.

this just reeks of a crowd funded project that will go over budget and nothing will materialize.. just based on the ambitious logistics necessary to make a product like this.

I think we should have a thread dedicated to games performances, where people post how a game runs on gpd win on the "default"(720p and lowest settings) and optimized settings, with tiers like:

>35 fps on average: very playable
25-35: playable
15-25: barely playable
<15: unplayable

For example i tried:
-Condemned criminal origins: playable
-Renegade Ops: playable

Erm, I think you are a bit late to that opinion.

now let me pick up my GPD Win and continue playing.

Good job with the drive-by. Way to fail.

On topic, I'm on the look out for a portable PC type device, though I really want the flexibility of the Steam Controller to be available. Problem with Smach is that I have no idea on how well it will turn out and it is a bit too chunky and oversized to be reasonable. This on the other hand looks like a great solution with a few trade offs. Will have to give it some serious thought

The Smach probably won't have the hardware they announced it will have, since it seems a bit too much to put into such a tiny space.
I also believe it doesn't actually have a Steam Controller on it, just a weird knock-off that I'm not even sure will benefit from Steam Controller configuration. Meanwhile with the GPD Win you already have the Steam Controller customization benefits.

I saw the GPD logo on the bottom, the white background and for a second my eyes combined the two and I thought GPD modified the Vita gif and turned it into an ad.
Which is eye catching and probably not a bad idea considering the target audience.

Well after quite the wait finally getting a set of upgraded keyboard clickers shipped out.
Now to wait a couple weeks for them to show up.

It's a good one, but I kinda want the whole "it plays full Windows games" to be really obvious by the title.
Yeah you need that. It's something I bet lots of people have no idea exists.

Agreed. Even though I like OT with funny titles, this is such a niche device that it needs to explain the thing. Some people dont even know there's a handheld to play native Steam/x86 games.

Amazing how that completely slipped my mind.

My current problem now is that though I know I will get a GPD win, I have to work out prioritising an actual laptop that I need for work / some gaming like crpgs. So might have to wait a little while longer for a GPD win

I have to admit i'm starting to be a little disappointed by the battery life and the heat.

I decided that i prefer do some sacrifices to get better battery life and less heat, i want to use battery saving settings and a lower resolution, but it pisses me that games(at least mine) don't support the 960x540(16:9) but the 800x600(4:3) >:(

Yesterday for the first time i heard about "undervolting", basically by lowering the power the cpu consumes you get more battery life and less heat, appaprently it's mostly safe and has no impact on performance, is it true? Anyone has experience with undervolting? Would you suggest it for the gpd win?

Ok but with just "it plays full Windows games" it's not clear that's a handheld, that's why my suggestion was "handheld master race", it's clear the GPD Win is a handheld and "master race", that's a pc gamers joke/meme, suggests windows.

A clearer title could be:

GPD Win |OT| Windows 10 handheld master race
or
GPD Win |OT| the handheld that plays Windows 10 games
or
GPD Win |OT| Steamboy come true

For the CPU, download ThrottleStop. It'll allow you to stop the device from using turbo boost, which means higher battery life and less heat.
For 960*544, you need to add it in the Intel drivers. You need to add 544*960 as a resolution (the screen is in fact vertical).

Thanks for the advice, i'll try :)

EDIT:
In some of the videos and sites regarding the gpd win some people used the 960x544 resolution in certaing games....

We all love Vita( XD ) but the "right" resolution is 540(1080/2), not 544, Vita has 544 because it's 2x the 272 of the psp.... why the psp had 272 and not 270(1080/4)? Who knows...

I know, the right resolution SHOULD be 540p. But when you input 540p in the Intel driver, it register 544p. Dont ask me why.

Anyone want to buy my Win? $200?

I'm getting the pocket and I'd like to subsidize the cost. I'm in IT and the pocket would suit me better for work and play.

Probably going to post in the B/S/T thread tomorrow. Wanted to give you guys first dibs.

Uh yeah, don't get what's so unreasonable about the question. I have a 4k capable PC to steam from and I'm wondering if the mini HDMI port can output in 4k to a 4k tv.
Yeah it supports 4K. Not sure what that other response was about.

Oh man if you were in Europe I'd buy that from you so fast!

In other news , Gearbest has now the 8750 version in preorder so it's no longer a crapshoot on if you get it or not! I know it's not a very significant upgrade in terms of power, but I guess at least it guarantees it is the last revision with all the little improvements in build quality, instead of being the randomness of ordering the 8700 that could be older stock.
