Injustice 2: Supergirl Gameplay Walkthrough

Out of curiosity, why are they sticking with Unreal Engine 3 (albeit the modified version that MKX used)? I know there was some deal that they had concerning the engine not too long ago, but I thought it ended with MKX?

Perhaps they figured it was best to work with something they liked and were familiar with rather than take the plunge of using a different engine. It was already modified so they can easily modify it further for their needs.

Wait, that's Unreal 3?

I remember hearing that they're using MKX's engine, which was basically a modified Unreal Engine 3. At least in Guilty Gear Xrd's case, their version of UE3 was heavily modified, so I can understand why ASW is sticking with it.

Freeze projectile. Command grab. Air grab. Teleports. Beams low, high, anti-air. Fullscreen Kitana whirlwind. Looks like she has every piece of cheese in the NRS book.

I suppose that makes sense. I was just hoping that with the older Arkham games being redone in UE4, maybe NRS would make the jump as well. Perhaps they will with MKXI.

Now that's not to say that the game looks bad, it's just that I was hoping that they could use some of UE4's extra goodies (unless they added it into UE3 themselves, which is entirely possible).

How do you know it's a Cmd Grab?

He even said it's apart of a string.
No way of knowing if Blockable yet

BTW for people her Tele is slow like 26 frames or something when I played and hits high so you can duck it

Obviously frame data can change but when I spoke to Paulo the person who balances he said it's meant to be reactable

Arkham Knight was made with a (HEAVILY) modified version of UE3 yet looked incredibly amazing. Still does tbh.

I should really go back and finish off story mode in Injustice 1 ... bought it on a steam sales years ago and played about half of it through.

Man, WB games must be giving netherrealm 3-5 times the budget for their last few games compared to Capcom with SF5 and MVCi. I mean, this game just looks fantastic on a technical level , it also looks like the characters are gradually getting cleaned up for launch. Although I never really had a problem with Supergirls face before (thought all the characters looked pretty great to be honest) I can't deny that the entire game looks a little spiffier now. It has been quite a few months though so I imagine this is making use of a closer to final(if not final) version of the lighting system.

Looks like next year will be another great year for fighting games -
SFV season 2 , KOF XIV 2017 patch, Injustice 2 , Tekken 7 and probably another update to Guilty Gear Xrd ( I mean, if blazblue can get annual updates , surely guilty gear xrd can too ?).

Oh wow, great improvement for her face. She looks alot of fun to play as!

Great that theres finally new content coming. Beetle also seems to have gotten an upgrade.

Yep, plus time constraints. A move to a new engine could take years to get at a working state. Netherrealms first UE3 game (MKvs DC) had many technical problems, yet it has only gotten better since.

Capcom moved to UE4 with SFV because MT Framework was an unknown engine to people outside Capcom, and this times development relies on outsourcing for many things.

And even then move was not an easy as the team had to rely on many tricks to get the game running.

The Batmans were ported to UE4 yet also had problems, so is nothing automatic. For a game that needs to be made in under 4 years, eith more content than the previous one and at full resolution plus 60 frames; and that then they need to continue improving and updating, is better to stay with known territory.

UE3 or no, MKX still looks pretty damn good a year later. I don't really have an issue with Injustice 2 using the same engine. The problem I had was that the early footage of I2 looked demonstrably worse than MKX, which thankfully doesn't seem to be the case now. The difference between the new Supergirl model and the old one is night and day.

Holy crap.

The hair, facial animation and lighting looks improved, but the face looks worse imo. Her cheeks are thinner and her cheekbones are higher up, but I think she looked cuter with the more round cheeks. The lips especially look terrible. Looks like she had some botox injected.

I never understood the complaint about the faces. They all seemed very well done for what they were and how early the game was. Plus, it was clear that lighting wasn't being very flattering.

Now Supergirl looks a bit more generic in shots with less harsh lighting. Hooray?

I prefer the old face.

The old face looked more like Melissa too.

I never complained about the face from Supergirl. I actually liked her look before and now they just made her look even better. A win, win for me. If there's one face that seriously needs improvement it's Blue Beetle.

Ya I would have liked to see what she looked like with better lightning.

Now it looks like they just sucked some fat from her face.

I guess the Chucky comparisons got to them.

I would love to see TV show versions of the characters, but I wonder if their face tech actually makes it more difficult to make an accurate represenation of a known face. It might depend if they can capture the actual actors.

They got Arrow, last time. I'd like to think they could get the other CW mains as well...

Katie Cassidy , who plays Laurel/Black Canary on Arrow, posted a picture on twitter a few months ago where she was shown doing MoCap work. Unless she has a gig we don't know about, that's most likely Injustice 2.

Could be Black Canary's main look or could be an alternate.

So is that morphing armor crap just a specific mode? The way they focused on it in the debut teaser made me think it was a core feature

No mocap. Though modeled his face, used the costume from the show and re-recorded all lines with his voice.

Then I was wondering if they don't to an actual mocap with this game if it would look way off compared to the base models.

It is a core feature, but it can also be turned off across a few modes. So if you want to only play matches without it, you can.

Only time will tell. Maybe they did or will, but no confirmation yet. Though with the new movies, I'm not expecting much from the TV shows outside a few.
