Inside Sim Racing previews Forza Horizon 2

Nah I'm only playing. Actually I was hoping that in Horizon 2 there would be cardboard cutouts of Dan hidden throughout the world which we would have to hunt down and smash.

Missed opportunity... :)

And if you smash them all and carry you save file over to Forza 6 it's gonna unlock night and weather :D

I really like they that went even further with their skill-driving-points-system. They didn't lie when they said they looked at Project Gotham Racing ... :) Very cool!

Waaaaaaa?? I LOVED these events. I remember one race versus a plane in between hills and rocks and ... Wow! It was hard, but it just felt so damn epic and satisfying. And it felt fresh. For me, this events were really something unique and part of that whole "Horizon" feeling. I hope they have much more from that kind of events.

Opinions ... :P

Hell yeah. I'm not the biggest driving game fan in the world - I get bored of them quite quickly but enjoy the shiny graphics for a bit - but I LOVED racing a plane in FH1, it was so much fun.

Now FH3 let me fly the damned plane against noobs from my car club.

Now I'm not one to say someone else's opinion is wrong, but yeah...

Those events were a nightmare. The only aspect of Horizon 1 I hated with an absolute and burning passion.

Saying that, I won't say I'm not interested in seeing that cargo plane race in the storm. Now that could truly be pretty damn epic, especially if there's lightening. Lightening carving out cargo plane silhouette through the clouds.

I have to drive that demo sometimes at events, and the answer is simply...practice...lots and lots of practice!!

Saw a couple of comments earlier about pop-in and just wanted to say that obviously the visuals are going to be continually polished right up until launch. Bit of a standard answer that but it's the truth and worth stating :)

I noticed that the handling looked off. I think you need to send me the demo code so I can check for myself and put my mind at ease.

It looks great but I still prefer DC ...graphics whise.

That's kind of the best bit about having so many racing games coming out at once - Driveclub, FH2, PCars, The Crew. There is a good chance that at least one of them hits all your buttons just the way you like it. You're in the mood for some eye candy? FH2 or DC. Want some open world fun with friends? FH2 or The Crew. More sim? PCars is this way.

Honestly as a racing game fan this fall is one billion times better than last year where we only had the relatively awful NFS

We had FM5 and GT6 last year...

What I hated most were those ridiculous challenges at the fast-travel stations. "Get x points y seconds." Argh!

I actually didn't mind those. Getting to the highway or any long stretch of road and doing some long drifts pretty much made those a breeze.

Looks great, not sure I like them focusing so much on online features but as long as it doesn't worsen the single player experience I'm happy.

Glad you're enjoying the footage. This was taken from our behind closed doors demo of the game at E3, and as some of you have noted this is a different build of the game than the demo that was available on the showfloor.

Yes, those are all 3D modelled people in the crowds btw :P

FH1 was my favourite car game last gen.

On thing i would like to see is assist preset: factory
That would mean that each car is using it's factory setting. So if I enter some old car I would drive without ABS, stability, traction,... But if I enter some newer car then ABS and TCS would be on if car has them and they cant be turned off.
For cars where some things can be switched on/off maybe we could have a preferred settings under Factoy preset (prefer TCS: off, etc.)
It is a small thing but I like driving cars in their stock setup.

Is something like this planned?
If not can you forward it to developers...if not for FH2 then for FM6 :)

Always wanted this. Please make it happen!

The biggest thing for me is definitely going to be the music. The fact we no longer have custom soundtracks on Xbox One meant Forza 5 was a nightmare with its terrible music.

I really hope there's enough on Forza Horizon 2 to satisfy my Dubstep (people will hate me for this), D'n'B, Electro needs and its not overly Indie or boring House.

Still going to buy it no matter what but this would make a big difference to me.

I ended up enjoying the first Horizon way more than I anticipated. So much even that I went on to complete all races on the world map. Plus many sessions spent on trying to shave the seconds off my time in order to beat those friend/rival challenges.

Horizon 2 is one of the games that reduces my buyer's remorse regarding Xbox One.

Pre-ordered.

This game is the only game that makes me want to trade my PS4 in for a Xbone.

It's ok, project cars will be better *hopeless self reassurance.*

Why do some people keep comparing FH2 and DC visuals? It's like comparing The Last of Us and Grand Theft Auto V, it doesn't make sense.

Yes, that's a great suggestion. It would certainly please those who crave authenticity.

Completely different types of racing games.

Even in the parts that we've seen before the lighting somehow looks different. I don't know if that's because the footage is off-screen or if they're actually playing during a different time of day.

Its free roaming. They only showed a single player race before.

Amazing what Turn10 and Playground Games do in just 2 years.

Watching the second vid seems it's currently quite easy to get a good/high amount of points. Similar to what you could do in FH1 on the highway but even made easier ;) Hope they change this a little bit.

Because, obviously, some people just want to really win the graphics argument every thread even if there isn't one...never mind that one game keeps you inside of the track the whole time with only a few feet to go outside the lines where there aren't indestructible guard rails.

On topic: Game looks like a huge step up over FH1 in every way from that early build. Off-roading with supercars looks silly, but I wonder if there isn't some kind of penalty to doing it during many course race events, like adding additional off-road drive time to total lap time of racers who spend time more off the road than on versus events that encourage it. They need to show off rally events already.

Excitement for this game is going through the roof now.

Everything i loved about the first game seems to be improved.

Will the smashable signs make a comeback? Free roaming and hunting them was so much fun in horizon 1. Was kinda like hunting for orbs in crackdown.

FREAKing awesome. That off road gameplay reminded me TDU! Dang, now just give me a mansion ;)

Idk, but I heard that the wrecked cars are in it

Looking great, as usual.

But I'm getting so sick of seeing that Lambo driving through vineyards. Show us something new! I want to see different parts of the map.

Question for the dev - it was noted yesterday that there is no story mode, and the single player experience is built around Driveatars. In this video he states Driveatars are not in the 360 version. So what is being done on 360 for the single player experience?

If not my mistake, theres a yellow sign when he goes through the trees in the video.

The 360 version is like the first iteration of the game.

This is my biggest worry. At E3, several videos showed the actual racing line going through fields, and all AI cars doing the same. I hope there are races that keep you to the roads as well

They've already stated there's tons of races that don't involve off-roading.

Wow. I saw more gameplay and learnt more from that video that the whole month of IGN First. Was disappointed that their videos were mostly just the same scenes shown over and over again with little new content.

Can't wait to see more.

Do we know if MS is attending Gamescom this year in a bigger way? Would be great if they streamed their conference this year, especially since they're showing Quantum Break. Last year it was some behind the scenes show to journos which we didn't get to see.

While I personally do not like emphasis on 'shortcuts' and offroad supercars, the final minutes of the video - "Meet" footage - is simply so beautiful.

I am curious about their idea for drivatars to guide you toward collectibles. This can either be an awesome mini-race that happens ex prompt -- or the most tedious, stupid following sequence ever.

I hope they make it exciting.

Edit: those GIFs are excellent. Good work.

I think what it means is if the real person takes a particular shortcut when they drive that route then so will their drivatar, not that they will specifically lead you to them.

So you could follow them in a race or whatever and find new shortcuts you didn't know before.

I could be wrong so don't take my word for it.

Agreed, It seems the supercars are very good off-road too which is more arcade than I would like, I was hoping they would struggle off-road as an incentive for players to buy 4x4 off roaders and rally cars. And yes I know the Lambo is 4x4 but come on, the front splitter would get stuck so far in the mud it wouldn't be able to move :P

I like it. It makes racing far more enjoyable than those clinically depressing tournaments in Forza 5.

I also liked grinding for super points in the first Horizon. There was a golf course somewhere in the middle left of the map - I'd drive there with my Aventador and simply jump about until I received all achievements for leveling. But man was it fun.

It was the same in the first game, the one that many people here loved and had no problems with. Yes, there were just a few free-roam sections, but there were plenty of different surface types, and supercars had little issues dealing with them. This is not a strict sim, fun and freedom are taking precedence over everything else.

That said, I fully expect off-road vehicles to perform better in extreme situations, just like I expect supercars to be able to catch up on tarmac segments.

give that man a teleprompter or script, he was all over the place, lol
