[Insider Gaming] Microsoft Removes DLC Discounts For Xbox Game Pass Members, Will Get MS Rewards Points Instead

GamePass doesn't have any exclusive content, right? This is not like Netflix were if you want to watch Squid Game you have to subscribe?

In that case I don't think the price can be justified.

Edited we're were damn autocorrect

Timdog is on a podcast saying that he thinks they are positioning Xbox to be sold off to a Saudi group. Just his opinion of course.
I'm pretty sure they looked into buying Xbox and they still chose EA over it lol
In all seriousness, Microsoft won't sell Xbox even in this state. They'll just slowly shut it down over time and re-brand everything to Microsoft Games.

You don't get much pennies in the long therm if you don't invest in consumer loyalty and customer service.

The problem is that MS makes way more money elsewhere, unlike Sony they don't get much benefits in keeping that part of the business running (Azure, Office, Windows, etc.) they have huge margins, and the money they want to spend on investments to grow the business is not going to go on their side project, not with all the buzz AI is getting these days.

So they're trying to see if gamers will foot the bill enough to warrant top MS executives, and investors, attention.

I own shares of MS, and I would love them to sell xbox altogether.
Sony has Real Estate from their data leaks just like McDonald's.

Huh? What is he smoking and what is there to sell? Xbox as hardware is worthless as it would need a ton of rebuilding. Xbox as software and platform would cost way more more than Activision deal and you'd still end up with a huge mess and likely an unsustainable service.

Plus Microsoft will still give cloud gaming a big push - there's one big failure for them left. ;)

I mean, from a business perspective, Xbox was trying everything to be competitive, including loosing money hand over fist to keep and entice players to xbox. What they are doing now seems similiar to what playstation are doing from a pricing/content perspective. Players have had it so cheap for a long time from xbox that players are seeing this is as over correcting when infact it seems pretty much inline with how you run a decent profit.

What the Saudis paid for EA I already thought was crazy so personally I could see them wanting to buy Xbox (without the hardware).

This is why you dont hire bean counters at the head of your company. And make no mistake Satya is the ultimate bean counter. there is a reason why 10-12% of the Fortunte 500 companies have indian CEOs. All they care about is penny pinching. Innovation, customer service, consumer loyalty be damned.
AYO! Chill with the racism bro. It isn't like white CEOs don't bean count also.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella strongly dislikes video games.

'I have no love for that world'

He's referring to game exclusivity.

Satya Nadella wants to remove all game exclusivity: 'I have no love for that world'

This bit is laughable:

As far as exclusivity defining the market, Nadella is referring to Sony Interactive Entertainment's penchant for buying exclusivity deals and paying third-party publishers and developers upfront fees and other marketing and commercial incentives to have their games skip Xbox platforms. Recent examples include Final Fantasy 16, which skipped Xbox when it launched this month.

These practices have caused Xbox gaming CEO Phil Spencer to see Sony as a "hostile and aggressive competitor," and the gaming exec also said that securing exclusive content was a principal impetus for Microsoft's $7.5 billion acquisition of ZeniMax. Xbox was fighting with fire, in other words.

Basically sour grapes at Sony's dominant position in the market. If Nadella and Phil hated exclusivity so much then they wouldn't have made so many games exclusive to Xbox and PC/Windows after their acquisitions of Zenimax and ABK.

All that aside, given the way they are treating their loyal customers, dev teams, and IPs - I do find it highly likely that neither he nor Phil actually like video games, to be frank.

I know. It was just a shitpost.

He should have taken Koticks advice years ago and dropped out. Their dream of gaming service future has always been retarded. Nutella really thought COD would lead them to 100 million Game Pass subscribers.

If I could bet on services increasing subscription prices and implementing ads I would be rich, because they all fucking do.

ChatGPT will be next, I can't wait for the memes.

I'm more interested how MS wants people to join them next gen with all the shitty moves and hardware possibly in $800-1000 range.

Look, im all onboard with the MS hate train, but did you actually read the article? At no point does he say he hates video games.

He says he hates the world where the dominant leader in the industry defines competition as exclusivity. As in exclusive games, as in the walled garden people kept spamming on about for years.

He literally says just before "if it were up to me, i would get rid of exclusivity"

How does that say he hates video games? He's saying he hates that competition in the industry is defined by securing exclusivity for one platform by paying third party and developers to not put it on other systems. The exact thing people were harping on that MS would do if they bought Activision.

What is this Reddit? How are people's reading comprehension skills so low?

Definitely a cop

If you want out of the industry, just get out of the industry.

It's like wanting a divorce, but won't admit it, so you just treat your spouse worse and worse until they leave you.

It's gonna cost them too much and it's "too hard" both technically and license wise to bring our Xbox libraries forward to whatever happens next. So they put up their console prices so no one wants them. They kill gamepass through these kinds of moves, they are trying to poison the well so badly that no one ever wants to even use another Xbox associated product in their life, they have experience with having toxic games ideas that everyone hated so much they just dumped the concept and left people behind (GFWL anyone?)
And if I'm wrong then the only other explanation is as someone already commented - they sure are preparing for a financial collapse / cataclysm / world ending event and grabbing all the cash prior to retreating underground to wait out the apocalypse

Perhaps they have run the numbers and cross referenced the geolocation of everyone's gamepass and realised that 95% of gamepass ultimate did the upgrade deal to convert their subscription to ultimate and loaded up with the 3 years worth of subscription each time previous subscriptions ran out. More than likely virtually no one anywhere has paid full price for ultimate anyway.. now that they have closed a lot of the loopholes on the stacking of subscriptions and foreign gamepass working on western country accounts they know everyone will ditch gamepass if they have to pay more than £3 a month for ultimate (my cost on the last stacking I was able to do was actually less but rounding up for the sake of argument, but was able to last load up a year ago of just under 3 years expiring October 2027 I think now)
Certainly they should have those stats easily internally on all of that, I know 3 years of ultimate cost me less than £90 total last time

K krumble Ive paid full price for it every month since it launched, except for when buying a series x with 2 years of gpu. There was some saving on that 2 year sub, but thats all. And Im sure Im not the only one.

Fair enough, I'm guessing ur perhaps fortunate that you can afford that, I mean up until a 5 years ago I had countless subscriptions that rolled over monthly, but as living costs have gone up in the uk and wages didn't as the years crept on I could barely able to afford all my bills some months the past year or two so had to cut back and scrimp and save on every level, I don't miss Netflix, I definitely don't miss BBC. I don't miss Disney plus for example and for a while I had a break from Xbox gamepass completely, but when the conversion saver came up on my dashboard I looked at it again and 3 years of gaming for less than £90 was the better choice than just focusing on my backlog and not buying new games. Can't say gamepass fills my gaming needs completely but it sure has helped
