Hot take: I don't really give these guys credit for eventually quitting when bad stuff started happening, because we told them they shouldn't join in the first place because the bad stuff was going to happen.

It's not like it wasn't foreseeable that Donald Trump would eventually fail to reject white supremacy. He literally did it during his campaign. They really should have seen this coming.

Yeah, they shouldn't get any credit. I'll repeat what I said when Musk stepped down - if they joined to try and rein him in then I'm glad they tried, but they don't really get any praise since it was obvious it wasn't going to work.

They realized it but wanted to push their agenda through. Now that they see he not only can't do that but is his their worst enemy when it comes to pushing things through..

Openly supporting Nazis is a deal breaker for Republicans. They can't implement their white supremacist policies if their white supremacy is being broadcasted 24/7 on every news network.

Musk was the first to walk after the Paris Accords withdrawal. I remember GAF shitting on Musk for doing the right thing months and months ago. Strange how the Merck and Intel CEO's walking months later barely registers a response.

Hopefully it is too late for them, though. Every person still associating with the GOP is complicit. They won't be able to handwave this away.

Musk had built up a lot of good will with his Tesla/Space ventures.

They're starting to realize that Trump wants to primary them or otherwise run them out of town and replace them with barely-concealed alt-right toadies.

It's a battle of witlessness as we contest to see whether the obliviousness of the GOP can overcome the brazenness of Trump's betrayal. It's like an immovable object versus and irresistible force problem, just with physics-defying stupidity.

It's good to see them leaving this council, even if it's more about the bad PR associated with Trump now than any actual stance on his other bullshit up to this point. If more flee, it'll cause him to head to twitter more and more.

And there was nothing wrong with him being in the council to at least try and affect change. He quit as soon as it became clear his input had no bearing on the outcome on things like climate change policy.

Pence Defends Trump From Critics of Charlottesville Remarks

Vice President Mike Pence on Monday continued to defend President Donald Trump's response to the violence in Charlottesville, Virginia over the weekend, telling NBC News the president "made it very clear" he condemns "the KKK and white supremacists."

"The president made it very clear in his statement this weekend that we condemn all forms of hate and violence, particularly condemn, as we did yesterday, we condemned the hate and the violence and the bigotry of organizations that showed up in Charlottesville like the KKK and white supremacists," Pence said.
