Is it possible to download this update without using iTunes? Or download to a different directory? My PC is seven years old and has a C: partition of 4GB. Since you can't change the default download folder of iTunes (only library location), it tries to download the update to the C: partition where i only have 300mb of free space.
 
This shit is really impressive. It just makes me so much more relaxed, knowing I can redownload my music/apps/book/etc anytime, anywhere, to any device. No more need for central management at all. Too bad Steve couldn't be around to see his vision all come together.

settings -> notifications
top right hand corner is an 'edit' button.

then move them around how you want them.

The store link in Newstand takes you to the App Store, but how do you get to that section when you go through the App Store? I don't see it under categories.

Go to OP and check alternative dl locations, then just save them to wherever you want. Then I think alt+click update to choose the package to update with and point it to wherever you saved.
 
Was up to 170 MB downloading at < 0.2Mbps or 2 hours to complete the download.

Said "Eff it", paused that download (which in iTunes loses everything already dl'd) and resumed the iOS5 file.

Currently at 480 MB with 3 minutes remaining.

I encourage yall to try it and avoid this 2 hour nonsense.
 
Heh, the purchased music redownload stuff doesn't work with pre-iTunes Plus songs. I had to bite the bullet and upgrade them to iTunes plus in order to redownload them. *shakes fist*

What? I thought Newsstand was like ibooks in that you subbed to magazines and they were stored in NewsStand, not that NewsStand held your already downloaded magazine apps.

there's no reason not to unless you're pulling down 2MB/s from Apple's servers.
 
Anyone else have the problem with the App Store where the list of updates shows up blank even though it's telling you that you have a number of apps to update?

It seems like you need a me.com account for notes and e-mail otherwise your Apple ID works for the rest.

Just use your Apple ID. I think it even says that.

Ok, downloaded and installed. Now doing the restore from backup.

It occurred to me I won't have to plug this sucker in again hopefully for a while. that's cool.

Other than the fact that Tobor is going to remind you that anyone who reads text on a computer screen instead of a glorious iPad is crazy, no one has ever really made a suggestion as to why they haven't released iBooks for the desktop.
 
I just started and it was hovering between 20-30 mins left. Now stable at 30 mins.

Download speed seems to be 0.4 MB per second~

Thanks scogoth and Dreams-Visions for the tip. Does it matter which one i pick for the iPad 2? (iPad2,1 - iPad2,2 or iPad2,3) It's a EU launch iPad 2. And since there is 'restore' in the filename, i'm guessing this deletes all contents on the iPad?

Edit: nm, refreshed the page and it displays versions now (wifi, verizon, at&t)
 
Finally after bitching with itunes for half an hour, it starts to download. 26minutes left. (im in sweden)

edit : and 1 minute later, it stopped with something about time running out.

apple - it just works ;)

If you hold that key when you click update or restore it lets you manually select a file to update rather than using the Apple server, Shift on Windows & Alt on Mac.

hey, itunes match isn't even out of (private) beta for Americans. I think it may actually be likely that we get itunes match shortly after the US version goes live.

if so, it would confirm my previous bet that Apple would get their music in the cloud service up to canada before Amazon or Google would - despite launching later in the US.

Just one of the reason, why you should use Kindle instead. I really see no use for iBooks.

Probably never, apart from charging. The phone is completely autonomous now.

You can even sync over Wifi now.
 
Guys, I think a miracle occurred here. Seriously, there is a god. The connection here is shit, anyone who has seen my history of posts knows this.

I'm in this caffe net and DL's go super slow, but somehow it already finished! I don't know how, luck or what, but shit this is awesome. Now i'm trying the Lion update and it says 4 hours. :lol

Seriously, i'm practically on dial-up connections here, don't know how I got a speedy lane like that.

Still getting the Unable to Check for Update from Settings/General on the GM.
 
I'm updating Little Big Planet 2 on my PS3 from scratch and iOS5 on my 3GS at the same time.

Have managed to download 5/7 updates for LBP2 so far in 2 hrs.
No installations yet.

Have managed to download the update to iOS5 in 1 hr and the phone is now doing a security backup before iTunes start installing the update.

Starting to think that the phone might win.
