Wait what? Like "Play this song?" That's bad.

Engadget said:We also hope that Siri's siblings will be able to run offline, because today's girl requires a 3G or WiFi connection to do anything. Even the simple voice commands that were available in iOS before no longer work offline, and if you happen to be one of the few who actually used those commands to change tunes while offline, you're sadly going to have to find another way.

That should stop iMessage messages being sent to your iPhone, and should only arrive on your iPad.
Rengoku said:Siri has been confirmed that it will run on iPhone 4 using a jailbreak
Originally, there was some speculation that Siri required a dual core processor (A5) to run. It appears that this is not the case.
Is there a Voice Control command and a Siri command to toggle Siri on and off, respectively? That should have been a nobrainer.giga said:Voice Control is still there if you turn off Siri. Nuance has always been server side.

Wholly cao, the orientation lock on the iPhone is still portrait only?! A jailbreak for the iPhone 4S can't arrive soon enough.

ivedoneyourmom said:First, why is selling software bundled with hardware greed? People knew that when they bought their 4 that it did not come with Siri. Siri is software specifically bundled with the 4S. There is nothing wrong with what Apple is doing. Would it be great if they gave it to everyone for free? Yeah, however they may not be able to do so anyway. Apple is very precise with their accounting, and how they form project budgets. In the past Apple has had to charge users nominal fees for things such as wifi upgrades, FaceTime, iOS updates, etc. this may influence Apples decision on including Siri in the iPhone 4S rather than as a part of the iOS 5 update, which was funded by a pool of money they saved from our initial purchases of iPhone 4, Touch, iPad, etc.
Shall they simply stop accounting? Don't think that would look good of them in the eyes of the SEC and FASB, which makes sure Apple's money is accounted for by the rules the stock holders voted on.BigNastyCurve said:You're not exactly helping Apple look un-greedy.
Haven't they stopped charging for iOS updates now? Clearly they're not getting sued by Uncle Sam over it.ivedoneyourmom said:Shall they simply stop accounting? My point is that seeing as they seem to have dropped the practice now, it would imply it's a situation that's easily avoidable.ivedoneyourmom said:That's because they set aside x dollars from every device sold. So say they sell a product for 100 dollars, and it costs 60 dollars to build, that means thy have 40 dollars part of which they keep, part of which they put into support, and part of which they put into further improving the device. If they set aside 10 dollars for improving the device over 2 years that means that they have a budget of 5 x amount sold. If they sold 1 million devices, they have 5 million to pay for the r&d per year. If they want to introduce a feature they just got via an acquisition of a company for 7 million, they couldn't, it would exceed the yearly budget. There are exceptions, but since they require board approval, thru don't always happen.
Crack. Dont smoke it kids.ivedoneyourmom said:Shall they simply stop accounting? Don't think that would look good of them in the eyes of the SEC and FASB, which makes sure Apple's money is accounted for by the rules the stock holders voted on.

I deleted a number of text message threads and got my count down to around 20k (verified with Phone View software). I then did another backup of the phone and reloaded the iOS5 software. Seems to have corrected the issue but I'm still scratching my head as to why Apple would suddenly implement a SMS limit.
Electric Brain said:The people who are being greedy are the ones who keep expecting/wanting new features and software to be free.
Admittedly, Apple did purchase what was existing, but they still jiggered with the implementation and integration, and likely scaled up the server side.

Koodo said:Two things I've noticed about iOS 5:
1. There are some issues with the Music app. Cover Flow is buggy. I rarely use it but it so happens today was one of the days I did and it crashed (I tried again and it was slow and jittery every time). MOST IMPORTANTLY, there also seems to be some issues with controlling the music via the lock screen. All the buttons take a while to respond.
2. New emojis have been added!
