iOS 8 |OT| Huge for developers. Massive for everyone else.

So handoff doesn't work yet or did I miss something?
Make sure you're on Yosemite PB3 at least (Or whatever the latest DP is I guess)
iOS 8 as well
Make sure BlueTooth is turned on on both devices
And make sure your devices and Macs are all compatible
Then make sure it's enabled in settings and preferences (Not sure if there's a setting on iOS, but it's in General on OS X)

I can't imagine why anyone would prefer a continuous, long, unorganized camera roll over just looking at collections.

Because it wasn't unorganized. It was chronological. Now I've got a shitload of empty white space because "collections" feels the need to tell me the date and location of pictures.

If you open up my collection right now, there are exactly three pictures visible. I've got to scroll up through more empty white space to see older pictures.

It really sucks that you can only use "Hey, Siri" when the phone is connected to power. They should add a button for it in Control Center and allow it to be used without being connected to power since it's such a power hog (understandably).

wait for the S8 chip in the next iphone which is a Siri co-processor and allows 'hey siri' when not charging.

The more I use 8 the more I feel like it needed longer in the oven. Definitely seems like the sloppiest iOS release to date.

Yes. All they need is a low power chip designed specifically to listen for voice and process when someone says those two words, then activate the full voice processing when it is sure someone said something.

I just hope it also has all the recognition software built in so it doesn't require a network connection anymore just to figure out what you said. (Or maybe it does that now. Or maybe it just caches common phrases. Because sometimes I have fast recognition, others it takes longer. Then again my network is flakey sometimes.)

I've been running iOS 8 for a week on my iPad mini retina and Safari is significantly slower and jankier.

They also haven't fixed the bug that makes the home button get 'stuck' and activate Siri mode when I press it once. It's not a hardware issue, the Apple store already swapped out my iPad.

Because it's better.

And I believe you could have looked at collections with iOS 7 if you wanted to. Now you're stuck with only once choice. LAME

How is it better? It makes more sense to have it split up into events and places with Collections than just having one single folder with every image in it.

Brb, dumping every single picture on my computer into one giant folder organized only by date because apparently that's the ideal way to organize photos.

I like you.

I am so analretentive and OCD about my disk organization. Every image Ive ever downloaded and photo I've ever taken in the past 14 years is organized by type or location or content and put in folders/events. I couldn't stand just having it all in one place. Even my porn is organized by year at least.

But at least you have the option. Arguing over preference is silly. I prefer a single camera roll on my phone because my phone isn't my primary photo viewing platform.

On my iPhone 5 a single press of the home button is being registered as a double press. So when I want to go home the app switcher opens....

Planned obsolescence?

Can't download anything from the App Store on my iPhone 5 at the moment. I'm still on iOS 7 whatever, you guys know whether this is a known issue? Would upgrading to iOS8 solve it?

Can't update apps after iOS 8 on my iPad 2. :(

Help!
Oh, so it's just a temporary fuck up with the App Store I assume?

I think the App Store is intermittently down at the moment. Can't download from it either.

Wouldn't surprise me if it's due to the amount of people activating their new phones today.

Yup.

There was no point to removing camera roll. None. You could argue that photo stream became redundant with iCloud Drive, but there's no harm in keeping camera roll. It perfectly mimics a point-and-shoot camera's file management, and guess what device my iPhone replaced?

I also find it funny that people are claiming that camera roll was disorganized. It had the same organization as the default collection (chronological), it was just assumed you were intelligent enough to infer that.

Now it's explicit, and instead of seeing 20+ thumbnails on one screen I'm treated to three thumbnails and a shitload of wasted space.

SwiftKey has been doing predictive text for years, so I'd guess they're probably better at it than Apple. It also has swipe typing, which is so awesome. Much faster than tap typing once you're used to it.

Great except it has a VERY annoying bug where did example entering a url or correcting one the enter button adds a space instead of going to the page. Fucking annoying.

It's just a personal preference. My iPhone photo habits are strange and sporadic. I take a lot of screenshots, a lot of things that I need to remember, etc. I'm not taking dozens or hundreds of pictures at the beach that need to be organized into a "Beach Vacation" collection. Camera Roll made the most sense for the way I use my phone.

I have an iPad 2 sitting in a drawer somewhere running some ancient version of iOS. It's not jailbroken or anything. It sounds like iOS 8 is kind of a shitfest and my guess is probably the last iOS version that will run on the iPad 2...if I wanted to do anything with it should I upgrade it to 7 while I still can or should I leave it alone?

My biggest gripe is when I want to send an image over whatsapp, I can't see all my pictures and only the recently added so I don't know do I have to move them to the recently added folder or just choose individual images and send them one by one? shit is infuriating.

I've seen apps which have an option to see all photos in the media picker, besides the recently added option and the other albums. Can't remember which, though, I noticed it sometime last week.

So wait, with family sharing one person has to pay for everything? That sounds like bullshit. If true, it sounds like family sharing is really just a way for parents to manage their kids' accounts. What if adult family members just want to share each others' stuff but still pay for it on their own?

Anyone else running into blank white (parts of a) webpage(s) in Safari when scrolling (quickly, short swipes) and holding down your finger to stop it from scrolling? Doesn't happen every time. But out of ten times at least once. And sometimes 3x in a row.

Have this since installing iOS8 on my mini retina. Tried a hard reset, but still the same. Don't want to bother with a restore yet. I'll test on my 4S once I find the will to go and get it downstairs.

What do you mean by 3 thumbnails? I see a lot of thumbnails.

And they are still sorted by date

Family sharing is "when all else fails". But remember that each Apple ID is an actual apple id. So if an adult member attaches a credit card to their apple id, that is the card that will be used and not the head account. Likewise if you add a gift card to a kid's account, that's what will be used.

Conflicted on Family Sharing primarily because of iTunes Match. We haven't setup my daughter yet because her phone just came today so I've left it alone til this weekend. But right now she has her own icloud account but is connected to my (family-wide) itunes match for songs and add-free radio. So she is saving to her own icloud, contacts, calendars, etc.. but can access all of our music and add-free radio. If putting her on sharing means she no longer has access to our itunes match music... she's not going to be happy... well I mean a huge chunk of our music is actually purchased which she SHOULD get... and I don't know how much of our ripped music she cares about... still seems like a sucky downside...

for my wife there's like zero benefit to setting her up on sharing.. for my daughter.. the benefit is super small.. she gets gift cards.. but right now I just tell her to keep track.. So even if the gift card balance is $0, if she still has $14 left that she hasn't used she can spend $14 without asking permission..

I don't know if it's iOS 8 or the Kindle app update, but the Kindle app no longer bringing up the interface whenever you switch back to it is the best change in this whole thing

Yup.

Dead in around 4 hours. Really poor. I'm guessing we'll see a fix within a week.

No way I can use this phone in the current state for too long. Way too inconvenient.

4 hours sounds about right. I used to get 6 hours before the update.

is it just me or are 3rd party keyboards kinda glitchy atm (iphone 5 and ipad mini retina)?

No rhyme or reason for the keyboard to return to the default keyboard, and there is noticeable lag/not smooth transition when you click on text fields to bring up the keyboard.
