I probably shouldn't have used the word bitter. Disappointed, maybe? I'm not invested in its success but rather hopeful. Otherwise, I think you've missed the point of my post.

I found it much more impactful and mechanically engaging than Journey, but my mentioning it was not to draw a 1:1 comparison.

And really, is it catering to "True" Gamers?

I'll outright tell you: no. That would've been the cheapest of scares, and I'm glad they didn't go for it.

Phew, thanks. I was paused there for a good long while.

Having a blast (pun intented) with Little Inferno.... The game is creepy as hell (again with puns... I'm on FIRE!...haha....).

Yeah, sorry I'm not more succinct. And I guess your comment was the kind of feedback I was looking for. It frustrates because I can't relate, I suppose. Games is games is games.

Yeah I currently view iOS more seriously than other platforms, because that's where 90% of my gaming is at right now. Sadly, most people still view it as an angry birds/temple run platform. Not that there's anything wrong with those games, but there's far more to iOS gaming than that.

Don't play that game for long sessions, you might burn out :p

Yes it would definitely spoil some of the mystery of the game. I think it's better enjoyed after you complete it. But that's just me.

Noted. Thanks!

Can anyone sum up Year Walk? The description and screens on the App Store don't really help. Is there anything equivalent it can be prepared to?

Just finished Year Walk. The ending blew my MIND. Handheld titles seem to do that these days; 999, Virtue's Last Reward and now Year Walk, pulling the rug from under my feet.

ok going to try year walk.

I have to say ios-gaf has a pretty good strike rate in the "this game is awesome you need to play it stakes".

Question about Infinity Blade. What's the point of the Mastery system exactly? Does your item get better stats once it's mastered?

Edit: NVM, I just found the manual.

Edit 2: OMG, the achievement sound is from Shadow Complex!!! Arghhh curse you Epic!

Get The Settlers. I've been playing it on PC for years and it's fantastic. iPad does a good job of recreating it. Its not the FTP model either.

Doesn't it require a lot of patience * ahem * energy to play? I keep reading that in the user reviews how getting energy takes forever.

Unless you buy them with real money of course! :(

I'll give it a try but if I think I'll uninstall it when I feel the F2P scheme kicking in.

Oh my god. I realize that putting the code into the companion app for Year Walk opens up a new can of worms. If you head over to the Touch Arcade forum for this game it's fucking crazy right because of the amount and size of the hidden stuff related to the games story.

EDIT: Holy Shit. Second ending.

Man, I downloaded PvZ because it was free. This game is crack. Been playing for 3 hours. I never knew. I've been missing out this whole time. Will buy the android version now so I can play on a 7in screen.

What do you guys think of Real Racing 3? I am about to delete it from my ipod touch. Just don't like the game forcing you to win trophies in order to unlock more stages.

We're gonna be seeing a lot more of these posts when the game is officially out worldwide.

Year Walk just isn't for me. About half way through I think but not feeling it and would just be grinding away for the sake of finishing it.

Art style is great though.

Yeah, I'm not sure I really get Year Walk. It's okay, but I haven't really done much. Just swiping around similar looking patches of forest and doing the occasional puzzle.

I guess I'd be getting more out of it if I was well versed in some of the folklore the game is based on.

Year Walk is all about wandering around, finding clues, and solving puzzles. It's most similar to those 'escape the mansion' type of games. The game isn't very long either. Maybe an hour with another 20 minutes playing around with the companion.

What makes it better than most escape games is its clever puzzles and more importantly its great atmosphere. You don't need any background knowledge, but if you're not playing with a pair of headphones in a dark room you're missing out on a big part of the game.

Does anyone know if there are any iOS games like the old Codemasters BMX Simulator games?
I've had a look and from what I can guess that game was like via YouTube, it's not unlike Ironman Ivan Stewart's Off-Road? If that's the case, then Reckless Racing (and it's sequel) may be up your alley. Also had a quick look around, and Vs. Racing 2 (judging by the YT vids) actually looks really good as well. At least, it got a decent review from whatever this website is... but I haven't seen it mentioned at all around here, so who knows?

In fact, depending on the price, I'm going to give it a shot now.

Edit: It's actually a lot of fun! I'd say it's probably closer to something like Super Sprint, but it's definitely worth checking out, especially for a buck. Simple, but plays really well.

Year Walk is a perfect example of a game I would much rather play on XBLA/PSN

Think of what a compromise it would have been to shrink games like Journey or Papa and Yo or whatever to iOS screen / experience. Actually, I am annoyed that so many people play The Walking Dead on iOS too because it is a scary zombie game and atmosphere is so limited on a smaller screen.

In gaming impressions...

I almost deleted Clash of Clans and then I tried to attack someone elses village and the game economy started to click, I bought a 1 week shield which I think I am regretting (because I realized I should have spent the gems on builders) and I am buffing up my town as much as possible by the time the shield expires.

Really? I thought how it works in tandem with the Companion app make it uniquely suited for iOS and definitely not xbla/psn. That seems really strange to me. The touch interface is key to so many of the puzzles and makes it all feel so much closer than a controller.

I only wish it was longer.

I feel the exact opposite.
Playing on iPad in the dark with headphones it's incredibly immersive, much more that being in front of a TV set or a PC monitor IMHO (I tried with AirPlay too).
Besides, the tactile experience in Year Walk and some puzzles wouldn't be the same at all on another platform (mouse or, even worse, a joypad...like The Room).

If you are talking about iPhone, I could agree...tried it briefly and deleted.
If you can, play the game on iPad and the companion app on iPhone.

Completed the game 2 more times btw...the real ending blew me away every time.
Many are implying there is even more...I left some possible clues on the OT, if you are interested.
MUCH decrypting has already been done on TA forums, but I STRONGLY advice everyone to stay out of there till you are sure you have REALLY completed the game (seeing the credits isn't enough :) because it's a spoiler feast.
To everyone who is playing and feel lost after 15 minutes...just stick with it...the game is not difficult and it's short...but belive me, you won't regret it.

Year Walk is a game that could only be possible on iOS due to the nature of some of the solutions to the puzzle. You really have to think outside the box-pressing R1 wouldn't cut it.

Joining the echo chamber of Year Walk love, I just got the second ending and am very impressed with that little twist. I had to see it twice for the implications to fully sink in though. I'm interested to see what else is hidden in there, if anything. Even if there's nothing else I still think it was a wonderful and engaging experience that was very focused and satisfying, with the companion tying it up in a little bow. Well done guys.

Just finished playing through the first episode of The Silent Age and really enjoyed it, so thanks to whoever it was that mentioned it here. Hopefully they follow up with the next part soon.

Well, you can start decrypting the runes in the stone slab :)
Check the OT, I linked two websites that SUPPOSEDILY contain clues about something else as per Simogo cryptic hints.
There are two threads on TA where speculations surpass even the wildest imagination...but there are good decrypters there and they have been already pretty succefull with Year Walk now, previously I remember God of Blades (another game with a sort of internet meta game).

To me the game is *perfect* as it is (second ending was awesome) but I would certainly like to discover more, especially about
The watchers

10 minutes into Year Walk I don't know what to do.

I hear you.

I needed to watch the Giant Bomb quick look for help with the first two puzzles. I really wasn't able to recognize the hints that te game was giving me.

The Room provided such an excellent language of feedback that I didn't need to look anything up (except for the gyroscope puzzle) but I am struggling with Year Walk. Hopefully tonight's foray proves more rewarding.

People keep mentioning playing Year Walk on iPad with the companion app on iPhone. Is it worth playing the game if all I have is an iPod, or will the small form factor ruin the experience?

Should be ok.

Read the 10 pages of the companion app first. Then play the game. When you finish the game if you're paying attention, there will be a reason to return To the companion app.

Hey NinjaGorilla-any chance of releasing a Year Walk soundtrack? I loved the song that played during the credits.

Yes, Daniel Olsén is readying the soundtrack for release in March.

It's a bit special though, because Daniel didn't make "Oh The Joy", the song you're mentioning. It's made by Jonathan Eng, who made songs for some of our trailers. So, Daniel and Jonathan are trying to figure out if that song can be included in the soundtrack. It seems stuff like this is complicated!

BUT! Good news. Jonathan is going to release a digital EP kind of thing with all of his Simogo songs called "Simogo Sessions". It'll include the trailer songs, oh the joy + a really nice demo version of oh the joy, which has a totally different arrangement; slower and backed on piano.

And thanks everyone for the kind words about Year Walk. These days have been a bit overwhelming, to be honest!

Warhammer Quest will be out in April.
Next week starts the marketing campaign; next number of White Dwarf has brand new screenshots and juicy details (there are even scans in Internet, as per devs twitter feed).

CAN'T WAIT.

2013 will rock.

Whats the devs twitter feed? Interested to see how it's looking.
