They'll sell every one they make. So yeah.Kusagari said:So is this going to be sold out everywhere?
Gamecocks625 said:What do you intend to use it for? If it's web browsing, email, music, videos, and iMessage then it's worth it for the retina display alone over the 3rd gen. If you want it primarily for games, then yeah you might just stick with your 3rd gen as it still runs games fairly well.

Every iteration makes the iteration before it look silly. Just upgrade every year!Fantastical said:I'm going to get this, but I don't feel as great putting in a two year contract now. I've been planning to get an iPhone for some time now, and I thought I would wait for this one. I'm disappointed, but what else is there to do? I just feel like it will be horribly outdated when 5 comes out.

What kind of spoiled society do we live in, when a company updates it's product, and people feel ripped off because they had unfounded expectations?
The Tested.com article sums up my feelings pretty well. What more do you actually need from a phone?

(CNN) -- Usually a cause for techno-euphoria, Apple's iPhone-a-palooza event on Tuesday had an unintended and unlikely effect: It made some corners of the Internet mad.
"LET'S TALK *NEW* IPHONE ALREADY!!!!!!!!" the Twitter celebrity @ijustine wrote during the company's much-hyped press conference, where it unveiled the iPhone 4S -- a phone that looks just like its predecessor, but is faster and has a better camera.
"Tim Cook is talking too much. I just need to know if I have to put pants on and run to the Apple Store righhttt now," she wrote closer to the start of the event, referring to Apple's new CEO, who was panned by many online as dull compared to Steve Jobs.

Stump, if you ran for president, I'd vote for you.Stumpokapow said:A better poll would be to ask "Do you currently have an iPhone 4, 3GS, other smartphone, or no smartphone?" followed by "Are you currently planning on getting an iPhone 4S, another smartphone model, or planning on sticking with your current phone?" and cross-tabulating the answers to the two questions.

The reactions are understandable after the release of the iPhone4.Kurdel said:The reactions to this product are really amazing

we got the bolded part (3) and did not get the others (8)
It's been 16 months not just a year (and most people are eligible for upgrades after 18 months). The hype grew the longer Apple took to release this. Many of the people disappointed are 3GS owners who've been waiting ages and don't won't to be stuck on the 'S' cycle.Kung Fu Jedi said:Right! And what I said in the iPhone Event thread was that somehow the phone culture has changed, and everyone wants to upgrade EVERY YEAR to a new one. Outside of a few very tech oriented friends (and I'm a techie!) most people I knew only upgraded every 3 years or so. Some kept their phones as long as they kept working. Suddenly now there is a culture of buying a new phone every year, or being disappointed because it wasn't a big enough leap?

btkadams said:i went to a telus store today to put my name down for the 64gb white iphone 4s and i was the first.......BUT that's because the million other people on the list before me had reserved an "iphone 5"..so i seriously doubt i will be getting this anytime soon lol. ugh. unless a lot of them bail since it's not a case revision. i also guess i'm getting the 64gb which might be priced above most people so i'd be one of fewer to get one. i'm really not sure.
TacticalFox88 said:Wait, what? The original iPhone didn't have an App store? Wat! How the hell did you guys get all those icons and shit?
Yep. And when you're one of the most valuable companies in the world and your stock drops, it's an instant buying opportunity for investors.marc^o^ said:Apple stock is up today, some people must be happy with what they learnt yesterday.
Well, I think people who bought the 4 are in a pretty good position.AbsoluteZero said:But the 5 will be horribly outdated when the 5S comes out, so at some point you just have to hold your nose and jump in, otherwise you'll be waiting forever.

as someone said earlier this is a phone for 3GS owners who skipped iPhone 4. they will likely skip iPhone 5 as well because they will likely not be eligible for full upgrade price.

Not all of the competition has been slacking. Samsung released the Galaxy about the time of the iPhone 4, released the Galaxy II 11 months later and has dropped hints that the Galaxy III is coming in early 2012 all the while delivering the Nexus S and now gearing up for the Nexus Prime. Apple is now the biggest company in the world (going by market value) with one of the largest cash reserves, and they can't deliver an update to the iPod line or even create a similar iPhone line, in 16 months?!hyp said:apple doesn't owe anyone shit. just be glad they're making awesome products. or else we'd be stuck in blackberry-age.
AbsoluteZero said:I thought contracts were 2 years. A 3GS owner, if they bought day one, would be at their 2-year mark, so they'd be eligible for the upgrade price.
Am I wrong?
This is how Engadget polls (And all other dumb internet polls) always are. They are never going to change.Stumpokapow said:A better poll would be to ask "Do you currently have an iPhone 4, 3GS, other smartphone, or no smartphone?" followed by "Are you currently planning on getting an iPhone 4S, another smartphone model, or planning on sticking with your current phone?" and cross-tabulating the answers to the two questions.

Yeah, I've had mine since August 2010 and I have no desire to upgrade.Fantastical said:Well, I think people who bought the 4 are in a pretty good position.
