aaaah I need to block apples site so I'll stop checking my order status 10 times a day

so ready to chunk my 3G off an 80 story building.

Hm.

Just pulled my iPhone out of my pocket and there is a giant crack on the back from the camera all the way to bottom. No case, but I haven't dropped it once.

No way it could have cracked in my pocket....right? Guess I'm gonna have to get it replaced.

I find it crazy they didn't use the same glass they on the front. Especially the second time around!

I might be mistaken, but I was under the impression that the front of the iPhone uses gorilla glass or something similar while the back uses something that is easily cracked.

Its supposed that the unlocked version of 4s releases in america in november, but I would like to know if theres some king of realeas day yet. Im going to New York from 11th of novemeber to 21st and I would like to know the possibilites of being released during that time.
Apparently you can already buy the iPhone 4S unlocked if you go to an Apple Store. They are not selling them online yet though.

I'm of the opinion that the unlocked models are kind of a ripoff. You can buy a secondhand iPhone 4 for $300-$350, and unlock it yourself (or pay a local shop to unlock it for $15). Is having a 4S actually worth paying more than twice the price of the iPhone 4?

If you've got $650 sitting around and you absolutely gotta have the 4S at any price, then go for it I suppose.

Maybe pressure crack,, pushed up against something.

It's also cheaply replaced which is a huge bonus.

Ok, thanks for the replies. I'm thinking about purchasing an iPhone 4s, but I would like to browse fullscreen. Jailbreaking is something I know next to nothing about.

well neither are gorilla glass I think, it is alumina silicate glass though which is the same as gorilla but yeah both sides are like that why would they make the back crack easier? lol where'd you hear that?

In my experience with the iPhone 4, the front did have a more durable glass while the back was more prone to scratches. You get a lot more people shattering their back glass than front, maybe its just coincidence.

It's confirmed in Jobs's biography that it's Gorilla Glass and that the iPhone forced them into mass production. Jobs emailed the creator with "we couldn't have done it without you" on the day of the launch.

so my mom gave me her iphone 4s yesterday. not a smart phone user, will probably just give it to my girlfriend.

so far it's just sitting in my drawer collecting dust.

I'll take it off your hands. No, really, I will. I'll even pay for shipping.

it's still wrapped in the package and not activated. i don't know why she paid 200 dollars for this thing to not even use it.

Sound like a dumb thing to do. Something like Omar Minaya would do.

Why would she give it to you instead of returning it and getting her money back? And her upgrade? Also, why would you in turn not use it? I'm so confused!

Finally got my sexy White 4S today, 1 day later than planned.

Anyway, question.
Is it possible to turn vibrate off just for emails? ie, phone will vibrate and play sound when calls and texts come in, but will play a sound only for an email.

Any good recommendations for reasonably-priced in-ear buds w/ a mic & button? I've owned the Apple ones in the past but they continually break down on me.

Ideally, they would cost $50 or less but I'm willing to go a little higher if it makes a big difference in quality. Thanks!

Shooting 1080p videos is nice, but it's nearly impossible to use those videos for anything due to the sheer size of the files. Does anyone know a reliable programm for converting MOVs? Also, is their a setting menu for the video camera? So that I don't need to film everything in a resolution that is too high for my use?

Is there a case/bumper for the iPhone 4/S that gives it nice curved edges like iPhone 3G/S or iPod Touches?

No.
Yes if the device is jailbroken

handbrake for converting (what are are converting to?)
No to the other question
Yes if the device is jailbroken
. You could use one of the camera apps from the AppStore though...

Just commenting on the posts on the top of this page. I don't know what kind of glass is used on my 4S, but I've been carrying my phone without a case, in my pants pocket, for weeks. The back has a lot of micro scratches that I can actually feel with my finger nail, while the front is pristine. So, I'm convinced that the back glass isn't as hard as the front.

Yep, one of the coolest surprises in the book. We've been wondering for years, and Isaccson just threw it in there.

Does anyone else notice the faintest hint of a rainbow/prism effect on the screen? Usually on white pages.

So I just recently Started to get into Magic TG. Gotta admit Siri is impressing me, assembling a deck and using it to search some of the more complicated cards.

I have a iPhone 4 on AT&T. Can it be unlocked? I need to use it internationally.

Edit: There's no unlock for the current baseband yet.

There is definitely some difference between the front and back glass. Maybe they're manufactured by the same people and are very very similar, but the front is decidedly more buttery than the back.

This sounds interesting. Would you mind explaining, in more detail? I'm having trouble imagining exactly what you're having Siri do.

Probably for gripping reasons.

Anyone know the termination fee for verizon? I'm thinking of upgrading to 64gb since 32gb is still sort of restrictive. And I was wondering if selling my iPhone 4s can offset the cost.

Also for not getting scratched as that's very important for a screen but not for a backplate.

I have my iPhone 4 since launch without any protection, the front glass has a couple of 1mm blemishes, the back is scratched like it's used by a fucking lion.

I'm literally just googling magic cards with Siri Nd then reading the wiki entries. It was just a little impressive because some of the cards have crazy names.

^see? I knew they weren't the same!

The front has the oleophobic screen coating which the back doesn't have.

Phone is still saying 5.0 is up to date.

Hmph...not sure why it does that, but the same thing happened during the betas. Seems like not everyone can see them at the same time.

I'm in the process of updating via OTA myself right now, though.

In the US, not sure if that matters.
