Just tried and it says it is up to date. I am in the US also (VA)

Updating now on my iPhone, still not available on my iPad however.

I haven't had battery issues since I drained my phone completely and recharged over night, but nice to get a fix none the less. OTA updates are most welcome too! :)

Update: Software update is surprisingly fast and slick I must say. Already done!

Should be available to all iOS devices on 5.0:

The notes list all iOS devices, and the OTA version for the iPad showed up now for me as well. Doing that one too. Looking forward to gestures on the first gen iPad.
 
Not sure OTAs still behave this way, but during the beta phases they remove non-Camera roll photo folders so you'd have to re-sync those via iTunes. Just a heads up.

Edit: Oh and you guys on Beta 2, you'll have to update via iTunes as the OTA won't register since the phone is already on "5.0.1", even though the beta build is 9a404 vs. 9a405 of the final release.

I'm guessing they changed that - my photo albums are still intact after updating.
 
For some reason my battery went from 100% battery life while charging to 93% while is was still charging. Any ideas what's up with that?

Oh, okay. I thought you somehow got Siri to construct deck lists, complete with card descriptions, for you or something. That would have been VERY impressive.
 
Has Instacast broken for anybody? Before, I could start a podcast and it would play over my car's speakers via Ford SYNC. Now, the podcast plays, but the second I hit the button to lock the phone, the podcast cuts out. I now have to keep the phone on and stay on the Instacast screen in order to continue hearing the podcast. The problem is the phone autolocks after 5 mins. I know there is a setting in Instacast to prevent the auto-locking, but I want to be able to keep the phone locked or be able to navigate away from Instacast while still hearing the podcast. When I go to vemedio's website for support, it is down. Is this a known issue?

Edit: after updating to 5.0.1, it seems to have fixed the issue.

Rebooting solves that problem. Either some other process is buggily hijacking the audio playback multitasking component, or Instacast's audio multitask code is buggy. I'm pretty sure when I've had that come up it affected other apps as well.

iPhone and iPhone 3G didn't have an oleophobic coating and they weren't scratch prone either.

It's my understanding that oleophobic is for finger prints and such.


I continue to be baffled and incredibly frustrated by push notifications it's a complete crap shoot if you get alerted or not. Which is unacceptable.

Are you talking about with specific apps? Seems like they still are working those out a few of mine are off.

So far, with the stock stuff I've used - phone, calendar, email, etc. - I haven't had issues beyond setting up preferences.
 
Its only Tweetbot and Verbs. To my knowledge everything else is working perfectly. Been pleasantly surprised with Push Gmail. I also didn't get voicemails for 3 days but thats because I'm an idiot and forgot to unlink my Verizon number from my Google Voice account.


Anybody know of any good bicycle odometer app/hardware packages? Because that would be fucking sweet, gonna pick up Nike+ whenever I can afford it, but would love to have something similar for biking.

While back, I took a stroll through the pit. I saw that kid we got running things down there, uh, Poot. Now, he got the cell phone I gave him for the business, right there on his hip. But, the nigga got another cell phone that only rang when the pussy called. Now, if this no-count nigga got two cell phones, how the fuck you gonna sell any more of them motherfuckers? That's market saturation.
 
Quick question. My first iPhone, everything is working great.

But. Is there a way to keep WiFi on when the phone is in sleep mode? When i wake it, its connected to the 3G, and then finds the WiFi. Can i not change a setting to keep it on wifi all the time?
Ive seen a few forum threads about this online, but cant see if theres a solution.

Edit: It wont bother me too much unless my phone is fetching emails over 3G all night. If the emails are pushed/fetched via WiFi it's not an issue. Does anyone know?

My iPhone is basically all wifi, all the time, when it's in range of the wifi.

I notice what he's talking about as well. When I first unlock it the phone will show the 3G signal and very quickly switch to WiFi - I assume it's a battery saving measure?

When i press to wake, quite often it says 3G for a second before i reconnects to the WiFi. So all im wondering is if it is still connected to Wifi or not.
Seems a few people online have asked the same question.

Why not put it in Airplane mode then switch Wifi on?
 
Ugh, Sprint really screwed up my bill this month. I already paid for my iPhone 4S + AppleCare+ last month, but somehow they're charging me $289 this month as well, but I can't get anything on my bill to add up to that amount. I had issues with them actually giving me my AppleCare+ but finally got that fixed and it turns out they just charged me twice for it instead of just fixing the issue of them not giving me what I purchased in the first place.

Time to call Sprint... I hate dealing with their CS.
 
So it seems doing an OTA 5.0.1 update has messed up my phone.

I fell asleep with about 60% and woke up to find my phone at ~20%.

Go to my battery usage, and what do I find?

Phone was definitely on standby the whole night, no apps were running. Hopefully after a full drain, this will fix itself.
 
I've been reading a TON more since I got my iPhone. The screen is actually quite a bit better than my OG Droid's screen. Which says a lot because that screen is fantastic. Though, there is no better way to expose the not-perfect viewing angles of the screen than with iBooks.


  • iBooks needs to be able to turn off notifications
  • You need to be able to set a default size for photosharing. Its bullshit it prompts me to choose a size every damn time I send one out.
  • the quickapp switching panel needs to be accessible from the lockscreen somehow
  • its weird being sent a picture someone else has taken of themselves with an iphone in the mirror. its like the iphone is the mirror or something.
  • the volume buttons rattle (at least I think its the volume buttons
  • I SWEAR apple configured the vibration juuust right so that it tickles your finger tips.
  • I want to delete the newsstand icon
  • still training myself to run Wikipedia queries through spotlight
  • there needs to be instances of safari. so when I click the gmail webapp icon its completely siloed off from my typical gaf browsing session.
  • I've noticed the GAF webapp doesn't highlight threads ive created on the subscription page, but it does when viewing the forums proper
  • not having a notification LED sucks
  • Battery life isn't any better than my Droid. almost identical in fact. I've had it die twice almost in exactly the same time frame as my droid
  • push notifications create all kinds of fucked up behavior. ill get a notification and click on it and open up the IM app and send off a message before it even loads the message that popped up to begin with.
  • its completely batshit insane that the videos ive captured dont show up on the videos app. but only under photos.
  • reminders.app is kind of the breakout hit so far. I use "remind me" and "take note" all the time with Siri. Boy I sure wish I could configure it to take note to some other app than the default note taking app though.
  • iMessage kind of rules
 
Oh, cool thanks for the heads up. Yeah, I do most of my Android posting in the Galaxy Nexus thread now that I think about it. 95% of the switch just came down to impatience, and how "safe" the iPhone is. These phones are way more alike than they are dissimilar.
