I'm on T-mobile and even though my contract is up 11/2 I'm pretty sick of my horrible horrible phone; I'm on a family plan with my fiance and she just wants the 8gb 4 (I want the 16gb 4s). We both want to keep our numbers, and we're not sure who we're going to go with yet (waiting to hear from people we know on other carriers here).
So - can someone pre-order if they're on a different carrier? Can they keep their number?
I don't think so.ChanHuk said:So quick question before I confirm my order. My sister's line on my family plan is eligible for upgrade but is on a dumbphone, so I'll have to add a data plan. Can I just not activate the iPhone when it comes in, put my sim in the phone and cancel the data plan for her line?
That's what it said in my order confirmation email from Apple, but clicking on the link gives you a 404 error. I'm not sure that is true anymore with AC+.Trojita said:Just confirmed with my local Apple Store that if you order from Verizon and want to get Applecare+ you can just come into the apple store and get it after you get your device. They said that you could do it within the year of buying it. It is $99.
Looks like I might just leave my phone naked.
http://thisismynext.com/2011/10/07/iphone-4s-4g-indicator/AT&T and T-Mobile have led the charge over the past year to brand their upgraded HSPA+ networks as 4G, even though such networks historically dont fall into the 4G definition and considering that AT&T is in the process of rolling out LTE concurrently, it can be a confusing message for customers to hear. That said, theres no sign of AT&Ts network branding effort slowing down, but heres a bit of a shocker: the carrier is apparently working with Apple to change the indicator in the iPhone 4S (which tops out at 14.4Mbps, up from the iPhone 4′s 7.2Mbps) to show 4G in the status bar as well. Thats surprising considering Apples general reluctance over the past four years to bow to carrier pressure on well, pretty much anything and whats more, the indicator will require an iOS update to enable.
Weve reached out to AT&T for comment; more on this as we get it.
Update: AT&T confirms that the companies are indeed working together on it, emphasizing that customers will get 4G speeds from day one regardless.
Nope. They are only letting existing customers get the first batch and it's in-store only.Chinner said:is o2s tariffs up yet?

My iphone 4 is teetering around ~1 gb of free space since forever. About 400 songs and not many big apps. Navigon easily being the largest.
And with apps getting more and more crazy, I'm sure their overall size would increase as well.
And 1080p video... herrrrmmmm.

Is it "CONSUMER PDA"?

I'm getting a custom skin made from www.skinit.com. I will have an Okami skin, making my phone nice and unique. I will also get a bumper, since I don't want to block the picture, and still provide some protection to the phone.
I'll post pictures when it all comes together. So excited!

Well if the download speeds of the 4S equals that of 4G devices ...ivedoneyourmom said:Unfortunately it is AT&T's call as to if they are going to brand that network speed 4G or not, other networks have done it in the past, and if other phones using this network and others are called 4G it really makes no sense for Apple to hold AT&T back from doing the same to the 4S.
Have the same problem and feeling the same way last night going back and forth between the 16 and 32.chickdigger802 said:So has gaf reached the decision that 32 gb one is the one to go?

i wish the carriers would just be straight up with people about the speeds. telus's site says their hsdpa+ network can provide speeds up to 42mbps. i don't even know if there's a mobile device out there capable of downloading at that speed, certainly not anything they offer. why not say the maximum speed of what you currently offer? it would be like mcdonalds using the calorie count of a smaller, healthier burger from another restaurant.KHarvey16 said:HSDPA+ is officially 4G, and I think has a theoretical maximum download speed faster than Wimax.
A white and black iphone4s. The new iPhone preorders to get by the 14 of Oct asking $1500 each obo

i understand that, but it essentially makes their claims pointless and misleading. the numbers don't mean anything to their customers if nothing on their network gets that speed.KHarvey16 said:Well, 42mbps may be the max they currently offer. Ultimately I believe it comes down to phones using the network to its full potential, in which case I don't think the providers should be responsible for changing how they characterize their network based on ever changing hardware capability. I think most familiar with any technology understand what a provider means when they quote theoretical or best case scenario maximums.

agreed. i'd be down with both being listed: the network's potential as well as what each phone currently gets. it would require them doing testing but i'm pretty sure all carriers test phones on the network before they deploy them anyways. in a perfect world.nVidiot_Whore said:It's not really POINTLESS.. people buy contracts to stay with these companies.. knowing your cell phone network is prepared for the future isn't entirely pointless.
It is misleading if they don't point out that any given phone won't come close to those speeds.. and phones should clearly state what their max speed is on the network.

You can't. Contract phones are locked to the carrier, even if they don't use a sim card in the US. Verizon and Sprint have their own international roaming plans where they give you one of their own sims to use overseas.LyleLanley said:Any word on if you can use the sim card slot on the sprint/verizon version for a foreign provider when you travel overseas?

Ridiculous, I know. Only option is to get an unsubsidized unlocked one.
