hey just for clarification, all the phones have the same mold right? No physical difference between verizon and ATT's iphone 4S'?

I'm about to order a case for my ATT phone but am thinking to ask for the Verizon design just in case.

Right. There's only one body for the 4S. Most cases are designed to fit the AT&T or Verizon iPhone 4. The only difference is the placement of the hold switch. It's a few millimetres apart on the two models. I think the 4S matches the Verizon 4's placement. For example, my case (iSkin Claro) just has a hole that is big enough to show either hold switch. On the Verizon 4s, there is a slight amount of space above the switch (same with the 4S). On the AT&T 4s, the slight amount of space is below the switch.

Divorcing wife. Thanks iPhone 4s and Find My Friends
I got my wife a new 4s and loaded up find my friends without her knowing. She told me she was at her friends house in the east village. I've had suspicions about her meeting this guy who live uptown. Lo and behold, Find my Friends has her right there.

I just texted her asking where she was and the dumb b!otch said she was on 10th Street!! Thank you Apple, thank you App Store, thank you all. These beautiful treasure trove of screen shots going to play well when I meet her a$$ at the lawyer's office in a few weeks.

thankfully, she's the rich one.

And on the second page of that thread he posted this (in response to those who weren't buying it since he just created an account);

It's amazing how much smoother Beejive is on the 4S than the 3GS. Also glad I chose white.

It's amazing to me how much smoother *everything* is on this phone. Everything loads faster, responds faster, etc. My wife's iPhone 4 was really lagging a lot there for the last month so she's been very impressed with the 4S. And the camera, as has been said many times, is just too awesome.

I really want Siri to be able to do more stuff on the phone. Like, turn bluetooth on or off, play the newest downloaded podcast, or turn mail accounts off and on and all that. That'll be when things get fun. :)

All this guy proved is that his wife wasn't where she said she was and that he is a creepy invasive husband.

Damn! I got my 4S connected to my home wifi. Everything works except Siri can't connect to the network.

Is Siri working for everybody else?

When can we buy unlocked phones?
Apple said sometime in November in the USA (it's already available in Canada etc) but people were reporting that out-of-contract phones purchased at full price right now are unlocked. Mine seems to be although I dont recall the congratulations screen in iTunes (I was just clicking through all the eulas).

Try restarting the phone, worked for me.

(Press and hold the sleep button until the 'Slide to Power Off' menu appears).

Not that it isn't possible, but I don't buy this particular story. The guy writes like crap. It's as fake as those fake crazy Facebook screen caps.

Anyway, even before iOS 5 and FMF, you could do this in a much more creepier and easier, way.

You just had to set up find my iPhone with your own Apple ID on the targeted device and bam. You could track it as if it was yours on me.com.

In this case, he actually had to install an app and know her wife's Apple ID. Yes, if you know private stuff from other people these day you can find out other private stuff. News at 11.

I'm not defending what he's done, but I would think it's difficult not to get suspicious if your wife is lying about her whereabouts at 01:30 in the morning.

Skipped the 4 (still on contract) just got the 4S. Loving it so far.

What's the consensus on a decent 4/4S case? £26 for the official bumper is mad. I'm looking for a balance between utility and protection.

Yeah, did that. No joy.

Gonna try turning off and on once more.

EDIT: Fixed it. Had to disable Siri, turn the phone off, turn it back on then enable Siri again.

Or press and hold the sleep AND home button for 10s until the apple logo reappears. That causes a reboot which doesn't require a PIN entry.

Well his fault I guess. I for one wouldn't let my wife party alone at 1:30am. And likewise, she wouldn't want to go out partying without me.

Oh well. Half.

So I'm with AT&T now. I have an iPhone 4 and it is locked to AT&T. Is iPhone 4s unlocked, so that I can use it internationally with different carriers? or do I need to buy the factory unlocked directly from Apple?

Anyone sharing an iCloud account with their spouse? I've got pretty much everything ironed out, except that Siri will generally call me by my wife's name, and vice versa. I've changed it about a dozen times in the "My Info" section, but it keeps defaulting to my name since it's on the iCloud account. Any suggestions?

Wouldn't it make sense to have separate iCloud accounts and use a single Apple ID for apps? That's what I'll be doing.

My suggestion is that you don't. Why would you? Share contacts, calendars, photo stream, storage space, etc.

Much better for each to have your own iCloud Apple ID. You can still share apps and shit.

I updated my contacts info in gmail. Is there any way to have my iPhone automatically sync my gmail contacts to keep the info on my phone updated? It's taking a lot of getting used to how this thing syncs data... it just doesn't seem to do it like i hoped it would. I still can't get the thing to pull down contact info from Facebook.

We share a single account on our iMac, and since our work schedule varies wildly, we also like sharing the calendars and contacts. We had no problem using Mobile Me prior to this, the only thing we can't iron out is Siri constantly switching our names, and relationships associated to those names. I'm not against having two iCloud accounts, but it seems you can only use one per login on our iMac.

Edit: The extra storage space from the Mobile Me roll over was a big plus too!

I have gmail set up as an exchange account already, but I updated some gmail contacts after the fact and can't get them to sync to my phone again. It says I can open the mail, calendar, or contacts app and wait a few seconds for a sync to start but it's not pulling down the updated info. I'm really looking for some way for things to be updated automatically like WebOS would do, if that's possible.

That's the only thing from WebOS I'm really missing at this point. It was really nice how it would pull down info from so many different accounts you added and merge the contacts together. It was easy to manage and easy to keep updated.

Battery life on this thing is really impressive.

I woke up at 9:00AM this morning, been using the phone intermittently throughout the day. Around 3 I set a location based reminder to bug me to pack my suitcase when I get home from work. Since then, location services has been running in the background. It was at about 75% when I set the reminder. Even with location services running in the background to check and see if I am home yet, the battery is only down to 43% about 4 hours later. At that rate, I'd still be a little above 10% after 11:00PM. That's damn good considering how taxing location services is on the battery. I assume it's not actually firing up the GPS and is using WiFi location data as much as possible to conserve the battery.

Siri doesn't activate for me half the time when I try to use the raise to speak option.

I've noticed that my 4S has a slight yellow tent compared to my 4G Touch.

Went to the Apple Store today and they said I couldn't buy AppleCare+ at the store even though I called last week and they said I could. I drove down to the mall for no reason, assholes.

Now I'm trying to order it through the phone and I've been on hold for over 15 minutes.

Get your shit together Apple!

Is the screen on? Raise to Speak only works if the screen is on.

The screen is slightly more yellow than some of the other devices. Looking at it next to a 4, I think the 4 looks overly blue (rather than the 4S looking overly yellow).

Was not asked so I'll ask it again; I can use my iPad charger for the 4S with no issues right? Also is it ok for me to leave the phone on during charge overnight, as in it won't affect battery life?

Thanks in advance

Couple (hopefully) quick questions. I posted this in the iOS thread but I think it was passed by and forgotten :p

In iOS, if you do a Google search or find a place via the Maps app (or another app that supports it), is there a button that says "navigate" or something that will bring up a turn-by-turn GPS app? Android did this very well and would be a feature I miss.

Also, if you try to perform an action that can be done with one or more apps, does iOS ask you which app you want to use? I can think of an example, again with directions, where I click on an address in the Android Browser, and a dialog box pops up asking which app I want to use to view the address, and it was unlimited. It gave me the option of "Browser", "Google Maps", or "Waze", which are three apps I had that could navigate OR display addresses. Just wondering if iOS can do this.

My last question is about file systems. Is it true that I'll have zero access to my phone's file system? So that means I'm completely unable to use an iPhone as a USB thumb drive, correct? I'm assuming there are also no apps on the App Store that allow you to have access to this either, right? Just wanting to make sure there is NO WAY I can drag and drop files from my computer to my phone without iTunes.

Yes. Was waiting for this to be brought up. There was a problem with the iPhone 4's with this. Some came with a cooler screen and some came with a warmer screen. The warmer gives off a yellow ugly tint. And the cooler gives off a cool bluish tint it.

My first iPhone 4 was yellow and washed out looking. When I got a new replacement due to a cracked screen from Apple. I ended up with a cool bluish tint. Stands out more and doesn't look washed up like the yellow.

Had this issue too. Turn off Google contact syncing, and delete them all off your phone. Then turn contacts sync back on. Fixed the problem for me. Now it pushes the contacts to my phone like it should

Black or white, people? Getting one on Friday after I get paid. Coming off a 3GS.

Seems I'm in the minority but I like black better. Its classier and the the contrast seems to make the screen pop more.

Should be less black ones around if that matters to you - white was sold out quick in Australia.

Guys, could using wifi when home be draining the battery? I just don't get why it is slowly running down while on standby with apps hard closed. WTF lol

I've never had an iPhone before so maybe I have unrealistic expectations due to the iPad lol

I think that's a fair assessment. Just need to figure out a new carrier and I'm golden.

There's always a phone running on the iPhone. Its standby power usage is incomparable with the iPad's (not to mention that the iPad also has a much larger battery to boot).
