iPhone 5

I'm surprised at how much is being made out of the "taller" screen.

You DO realize that it is simply bringing the iPhone in line with the aspect ratio of just about every smart phone right? They finally moved up to 16:9.

Does this make you feel better?

If you're paying this much for a phone, it better be damn near perfect out of the box.

Indeed. Apples been making fantastic looking and feeling products out of aluminum for a while. They should have zero issues with scuffing or wear out of the box. No excuses. And the finish should be strong enough to handle general usage without looking worn down.

3rd hour of waiting for rogers iPhone activation. I'm #6 in line and only 3 have processed so far.

It took an hour for Koodo to sell me my phone because of server trouble, and it doesn't actually work yet because there was some error during activation so it might be a day or so before they get back to me.

I'd be fine with activating it myself but they are being downright militant about letting us leave.

After some use today, this new screen passes the one handed test, but its close.

I'm so glad they kept the width and made it thinner. The phone feels great in the hand.

Very happy with this design overall, with the anodizing issue possibly the lone exception.

Man... this thing gets warm. Maybe it's because 4G is activated (not that 4G is doing me any good right now; AT&T is getting hammered in Kansas City. I'm getting sub-3G speeds).

any screen shots of how 'legacy 4:3 apps' look on 5?

Also how is the heat? Any try some unreal engine games or push LTE a lot (streaming, heavy browsing)?

It's not hot, but it's definitely warm to the touch. Without a case, you're going to notice it for sure, especially when it's up against your face

Do you use the phone in your right hand? I've always held my phone in my left hand (I'm right handed), and using my thumb to "reach" for a back button is a non-issue. There are only a few cases where a button is in the far upper right. Which I can still just reach.

I wish the phone was also a bit wider still, but the new height makes more of a difference than I thought it would.

I use both hands. I'm phonebidextrous.

Man... what the hell is going on with Apple? How could they let this scratching and scuffing issue make it into the final product? People are even reporting damage to their devices from right outside of the box.

Combine this with the maps debacle and this is a pretty disastrous release.

Still probably going to outsell every other Apple product launch...

launch woes is common with all electronics o_O.

it's a known risk for early adapters since forever.

they've had one snaffu or another with every product launch they've had the last few years. yellow screens (iMac), uneven discoloring (new iPad), "you're holding it wrong"-gate (iphone 4), and so on.

moral: buy a launch unit at your own risk.

...hate me...
Any reason you guys use Chrome? I love it on PC and Android, but on iOS Apple limits it so it can't be better than Safari.
It can be better, it's just a tad slower on heavy javascript pages, but the new iPhone should handle that with no problem.

I still prefer Safari, but there's plenty to like on iOS Chrome. Tab management, porn mode, bookmark and password sync, etc.

early adopters.

I can't tell what you're trying to do with this post. Are you saying that Apple's doing nothing wrong here and such issues are to be expected and the user's fault for expecting better?

I guess it's because the 4S was the first iPhone I bought. It had a pretty flawless launch and is a great device.
