iPhone 5

That's not too bad though, at least you have data connectivity. For me at least I'm hardly using my phone for calls, especially extended ones that may require data, so I'm not even sure the Verizon limitation would even be that big of a deal

I'd rather voice + HSPA+ data than nothing.

VZW people:

You: I recently pre-ordered the iPhone 5 and when I check to see my order status it says it doesn't exist.

You: I have my email and confirmation number and everything.

Sheena: I'd be happy to assist you.
Sheena: What is your order number ?

You: XXXXX, pre-order confirmation: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Sheena: Did you complete this order with agent

You: No, I simply ordered it last night when the pre-orders were available.

Sheena: One oment
Sheena: I show that your order was completed it will not show on order status because the phone is not availale now .

So there you go. As long as you got your email, it will be fine.

More about the lighting connector from an electrical engineer, with comments about microusb and usb 3.0.

http://brockerhoff.net/blog/2012/09/13/boom-2/

People keep asking why Apple didn’t opt for the micro-USB connector. The answer is simple: that connector isn’t smart enough. It has only 5 pins: +5V, Ground, 2 digital data pins, and a sense pin, so most of the dock connector functions wouldn’t work – only charging and syncing would. Also, the pins are so small that no current plug/connector manufacturer allows the 2A needed for iPad charging.

This is bullshit. Lots of devices put 2A over microUSB. The HP Touchpad and Nexus 7 does this.

It is also a problem that could likely be resolved with software, as long as they are able to agree upon a VOIP solution for LTE - which IMO probably should have been done years ago, but I guess telcos wants to get the most out of their existing tech.

If you get the message: Please check the information you have entered. Data may be missing or may have entered an invalid Pre-Order Number or Last Name.

just keep refreshing till you get your status. works for me

So my father wants to finally jump on board the iPhone train. He's been using a first gen iPod touch for the past few years and wants to transfer all that stuff (Notes, contacts, apps, etc) over to a new iPhone 5. I would assume this is possible via backup/restore, but he'd be going from iOS 2(!!) to iOS 6. Anyone know if you can do this, or does it have to be the same OS version in order to work?

No clue, but out of curiosity why iOS 2? My 1st gen touch is on 3.1.3

edit: oh wait, they started charging for updates back then, right?

Went to preorder my phone at Best Buy. 2 hours in and they already had 70 or so preorders. That all carriers of course. I was 3rd to preorder a 64GB black for AT&T. I'm hoping to be safe.....

You should be but the 64GB numbers seem to be lower than the other options from what I've seen around here.

I have a question

I just preordered Iphone 5 white 16gb at best buy with AT&T with the discounted price but I'm thinking to give this one to my dad who's birthday is coming up. If I do this how much will I have to pay to buy another Iphone a week or so later? thanks

Are the photos and videos uploaded to photostream the same file that you'd get if you connected your iPhone to the computer and transfered? Basically are they full quality?

On your computer they're full resolution. On an iOS device they're downsized.

Wait I just saw a video that shows it has a "nano-SIM" slot? what? Does this mean I can't take buy this seperately and put my SIM card in from my Infuse 4G?

wtf, how do I get a nano-SIM? How much is that going to cost? ughhhh

I may be in the minority, but after two versions of the iPhone I have never talked and did data access at the same time. I am currently switching from AT&T to Verizon because to me 4G LTE in my area (Philadelphia) is taking precedence then talking and doing data access as the same time.

Doesn't seem like a big issue to me, either. I can see it being a problem if you are using the iphone for navigation whilst talking on the phone hands free.

This is what I'm upgrading from :

Decided I'm getting black, 16GB over the 32GB. I'll be using Droid 2 as my MP3 player until I can find a replacement, not gonna bother putting music on my iPhone to save space. Looking at getting the new iPod Nano...
