I installed 7.7, went to Preferences and checked Applications, and went to the store and I get a "The iTunes Application Store is not currently available. Please try again later." message :(

edit: hm, works now. Installing 2.0 firmware...

This might be a farfetch, but try setting your clock to July 11. It said the same for me, but since it's July 11 here now, it's working and you can visit the AppStore from the iTunes store with no need for a workaround either.

Otherwise, it's probably tied to the time for the iTunes store you access, in which case you'll still have to use some sort of workaround for the content.

So, anyone know if they're going to go for the white or black phone? I'm torn about which one to get.

Also, can I change my phone number back to San Fran? When I moved to WI for grad school I got a WI phone but I want to go back home.

What's the deal with the Edge icon now occasionally being a small dot in a square? Odd.

Quick app impressions:

AIM - It's OK. Not great. Right now it doesn't do push notifications. You have to be running the program for it to acknowledge/notify you of new messages. It only has the standard AIM message received sound and it doesn't appear that you can turn it off unless you put the phone on vibrate (it's quite loud and doesn't sound terribly good on my OG iPhone's speakers).

Ms. Pac-Man - Plays inexplicably slowly. I'm using the touchscreen D-pad. It's not terrible, but...not great.

Bank of America app - Doesn't appear to be anything more than a small front-end to the already-existing web app. Superlame.

Twitterific - Works OK (and here I thought this was supposed to be the stellar app). I have the free version. Runs slowly on Edge and images load very slow. It appears it doesn't cache anything more than what's on the screen at any current time because when you scroll up/down you lose images even if they had just been loaded already before. So I could be on a screen where "MacRumors Feed" has an image, scroll down and another entry by that same name doesn't have the image.

thank you, obviously I didn't want a definitive yes or no, just wanted to hear the word on the street, as it were. I picked up my iphone like three days after they released em with no problem, and considering the price point and hype I figured they'd want to flood the market this time around.

Nobody knows and nobody will know until tomorrow when initial demand is gauged and some semblance of available inventory is known.

The push notification service isn't available until Q3. All Apple did at WWDC is give us some idea of how is might/could/probably work.

Please try the other free twitter app called Twittelator.

So how does AIM work? If you leave the program you get signed out don't you?

No. I put my phone to sleep while driving to work and would check it occasionally at a stoplight and when I got to the parking lot. It kept me signed in, all I'd have to do is start AIM to read the messages I'd gotten in the interim. I dunno if it signs you out after a certain period of time though.

This is like a console launch - don't expect much from the really early apps. Those apps were written stupidly quickly just to be in the app store on launch day so they can take early adopter money or try to establish themselves as "the definitive app in the category". It will be some months yet before some of the good stuff comes out by people who have actually like thought through the design of their application and such :)

Did anyone get the contacts application after updating to 2.0? Just making sure I didn't do anything wrong.

Nothing I do is having any fucking sort of effect. Now I'm back to

"iTunes requires a newer version of Apple Mobile Device Support. Run the iTunes installer again to remove iTunes, then install iTunes again."

Yeah no kidding. I just made Evernote puke.

I'm try to look for away to tell all Apps that i don't need to be asked " Can this App use Location?" every time i use an App.

AOL: If you go to Settings(on the iphone, not aim): Aim. There is a switch that says
"Sign-off on Exit".

Contacts: Settings:Mail,Contacts,Calendars. There is a button that says "Import SIM Contacts".

Do you have another PC to try things on? If you completely uninstall iTunes and install 7.7, then all that should be up to date, so I'm all out of ideas.

WTF, i downloaded a few applications but none of them sync because I "am not authorized for them on this computer." How do I authorize myself?

edit: nvm, got it.

It connects fine to another PC. Ugh, this is really pissing me off.

Does AIM work off of your data plan, or does it use up your text messages? I was never 100% sure...

Anyone else try the Remote app? I think it's really great, especially if you have multiple libraries. Guess I'm going to have to invest in AirTunes now.

And Xater, you're dead on about Ms. Pacman(accidentally bought when I thought it would put it in my shopping cart). I can't see how is should be playing with any type of slowdown.

Cool, bye bye iSim.

I can't get the Apple Remote to work at all. I'm using windows. Does anyone know what port Remote uses?

Edit: Silly me. I had my wireless router setup on a different subnet.

I do not know.

Upon replaying Ms. Pac-Man, I've discovered the game players significantly better with swipe controls instead of the virtual d-pad. It still runs sluggishly, but I don't feel like I wasted my money anymore.

Yeah, same for the NES emu.
Swipe controls make it decent.

AirTunes is fucking amazing. I haven't listened to music on my MacBook (and former Powerbook) for like 3 years. I stream everything to my stereo. It's amazing. What irks me is this. My MacBook is on my wifi network and can stream music to my AirPort Express. My iPhone is on the network too but it can't. Imagine how more awesome AirTunes would be if iPhone supported it. The speaker on the iPhone is terrible, but sometimes I don't want to listen to music with my headphones. I would love to be able to stream my music from my iPhone direct to my stereo. I guess it isn't a big deal because everything that is on my iPhone is already on my MacBook, and I can use Remote to control it, but I would still rather stream directly from the iPhone. If a friend came over and was like "check out this song!" he could just stream it right to the stereo.

wait...i can't install apps because it says i'm not authorized. how do i authorize myself!??! help!!!

EDIT: figured it out. had to authorize computer within itunes.

I have AppleTV and a iPod Hi-Fi that I stream music too. It is really cool. Music in the bedroom and family room via my network! Great! Once I get my iPhone and can control the music via my phone, it will be grrrrreat!

Bowser,

When you get the 4 digits on the iphone, a new thing should pop up as if you were plugging in the iphone. If you can't see it then there is something wrong with the connection between the iphone and the computer. It works on wifi so check your firewall, router, wireless router etc.

Good to know. I've been waiting for this forever now, and I'm SO not disappointed. You should send an email to Apple with that idea. It seems like a natural evolution from what it's already doing.

About the Airport Express, I'd like to be able to stream music to different parts of the home. Would it be better recommended to buy multiple Airport Express' or have one and move it to different parts of the house as needed?

Dammit. I can't decide what to do. I REALLY want to wait for the HTC Touch Pro. It has buttons, which is really important to me, and I just like the look of it, as well as the purported functionality. But the iPhone is going to have game support and Outlook push. =/

Stupid dilemmas.

*sigh* I really don't know where to start with this, heh.

I just installed 2.0 on a jailbroken 1.1.3...and everything appears to be working fine. I've installed 4 apps: Facebook, AIM, NYTimes, and Remote. NYTimes is nice...good interface. AIM is cool when it works...you slide between contacts to change IMs ("tabbing"). Facebook doesn't seem to work yet, and it doesn't work for my other friend either. Remote is REALLY well done...and I'm glad i have an airport. :D

I would buy multiple ones. From iTunes you can pick which ones will get music and which will not. Moving one around the house would kind of suck after awhile. I got mine off ebay for 40 bucks each.

Any Monkey Ball impressions?

Monkey Ball is easily the best looking of any of the iPhone games. It's goddamn amazing and sounds great too. Runs very smoothly. The control takes some getting used to though. The accelerometer in the iPhone isn't really ideal for making slight movements or coming to quick stops.

I'm quite impressed with Bomberman as well. The graphics on that look pretty darn amazing and the controls are fairly intuitive (a touch on the playfield sets down a d-pad overlay and moving up/left/right/down from there moves you around). One button in the lower right corner is used to lay bombs.

I'm more impressed with the three games I bought than any of the other applications I downloaded, actually. :\

An application should only ask twice (but EACH application will ask twice). If its asking more than that, you should http://bugreport.apple.com that application and the iPhone SDK.
