Does robertsan know about the lack of video recording yet, or can we look forward to a whole new round of whining when he figures it out?

I am sure we are going to have to pay for that service hahahaha

'ones a microphone.

:lol I didnt even think of that.. Since buying my iPhone last month it bugged me that sound was only coming out one of the speakers..

So last weekend I took it back to the store and showed them. I played an mp3 and covered the left 'speaker' and the sound stopped. See? there is no sound coming out of the right speaker!

Result? Brand new iPhone which is kinda cool because my original one had a tiny microscopic scratch from where I dropped it on concrete :D

Apple Store or AT&T? Either way, it doesn't matter, the employees at either can be pretty fucking stupid.

My iPhone 2G was accidentally dipped in water and now the ear receiver volume is very low. The speakerphone volume is normal, but if I put the phone to my ear, I can barely hear what the person on the other end is saying.

My main problem now, from what I've been reading around the net, is that my iPhone 2G has been jailbroken and unlocked, and therefore the warranty is voided. On top of that, I'm in Canada, so Apple Stores near my area won't fix the problem for me ... but I don't mind the 2 hour drive to Buffalo.

So I'm wondering what my options are here. The best possible solution would be to virginize the phone and then take it to an Apple Store in Buffalo, however I'm not sure this is possible. Am I basically screwed?

I'm having a problem with putting ringtones on my iPhone. I put two ringtones on my 3g a while ago and i synced them. So those worked fine but like a dumbfuck i forgot that would delete all my music since i don't keep anything in iTunes.

I don't understand why, since i check manually manage music, i can't just drag and drop ringtones from the ringtone library in the ringtone section of my iPhone. I tried this and it shows up in iTunes under iPhone ringtones but my actual iPhone doesn't recognize it. Am i stupid or is this not something you can do?

You dropped it in the toilet didn't you?

Best bet is to try your luck at the Apple Store. I've heard it go both ways so YMMV.

I thought jailbraking your phone was a software only procedure?

If it is just software just reset your phone's software and you should be good to go.

I actually received $200 as a gift recently. I usually go through 300 minutes a month on my Sprint phone and my contract expired in July.

Should I jump in? I'm a poor student so if I do purchase the phone I'm going to be using it for a while. I've been hearing problems about the phone's launch. Basically, is the 3G reliable or just save the money for Fall semester books.

Edit: What is the cheapest plan I can get?

Apple will check to see if the phone has been immersed in water when you bring it in. I had an issue with mine awhile back, and one of the first things they did was take out a device that looked like something a doctor would use to look in your ear, and peered down the headphone port. The tech chuckled and said some to the effect of: "Nope! No water damage!"

Good luck.

Is there no way to just sync one thing from itunes to your iphone and leave the rest alone? Like for instance i want to sync ringtones but not have all my music fucking deleted, is that possible?

I just found out that there isn't 3G service in my area. I just that makes the decision easy.

Well, you could use iTunes to manage your music, but if that's not an option, jut turn off all syncing of music.

More to the point, you're not in warranty anyways, as the device only has warranty if it is coupled with an AT&T contract at the moment. So no matter what, it's an out of warranty repair on a 2G iPhone in the US and Canada.

how do I change the sound when I get a SMS?

I feel your pain dude. I had two requirements for a phone when I bought one for the first time (pre-iphone). 1. Upgradable storage space, 2. custom SMS alert sound. God was it painful to do research into the SMS thing because back in those days, no one thought it was a feature that was needed, nor even if the phone had it, to advertise. But I finally found a good one and bought a Nokia 7610. I had that phone for like 5 years up until I bought an iPhone a few weeks ago.

But you know, custom SMS alert is no longer a priority for me. The phone is so awesome that I don't really care about the missing things. An Apple guy I know (certified since 1980 something etc) said something which I think rings true for all of their products. You don't buy Apple for features and specs. You buy them for the slick UI and the style. The iPhone has both in spades.

You can just drag and drop what you want. The ringtones you are using are probably not the required length or file type and while you can put them on the phone, the phone won't show them up in the UI. They need to be 30 seconds or under, and M4A.

I've been on Amtrak since 7AM EST using my iPhone as a computer while using the MacBook Pro to watch DVDs...

62 crashes and one panic today. This phone is way too unstable.

On the plus side I watched Arrested Development for the first time today and love it.

This is wrong. The files can be no longer than 40 seconds and they have to be m4r not m4a.

I really want the MGS codec sound for texts.

Same here. My old phone had mgs ringtones is there a way to put them on my iPhone. Wow, pressing space bar twice puts a period at the end of the sentence.

m4r is just a renamed m4a. It needs to be AAC in an MP4 container with M4R as its file extension.

Nice!! Bookmarked!

Same here. I never knew the advantages of having a phone like the iPhone. It is fucking cool to post with the iPhone. I just got mine last Friday so there is much I need to know about the phone. My coworker finally got tmobile Internet service working on my phone so I am pretty happy about that.

We should have a seperate thread for iPhone wallpapers. I found some very good ones.

Damn. I guess I'll have to get lucky and find a nice Apple tech guy to have it fixed for free...

Also, does Apple require a receipt for iPhone repairs?

Anyone think there will be some application or interface put into iTunes that will allow me to manipulate my iphone application icons on my computer rather than on my iphone? It's a pain to move things from say the first screen to the 3 page of applications.

2.0.1 fucked up my phone yesterday. All of my apps would crash instantly on startup. Ipod showed up as empty even with all my music files taking up space on the iphone. Fixed it by backing up, going into iphone recovery mode, restoring (factory settings), restoring my backup, then it kept asking me to restore from my backup or set up a new phone. I had no choice so I set it up as a new phone. It still somehow kept all the backed up stuff and now finally works again.

Some files will work at 40 seconds. Many won't. 5 out of the 7 ringtones I put on my phone didn't work until I cut them to 30 seconds.

Anyone try this new Files app? It's supposed to let you store and view files on your iPhone -- with PDF support -- and I'm kind of curious about how the PDF support is.

Wow, after upgrading to 2.01 yesterday all of my non-Apple apps refused to load. I checked for updates, no love.

Finally I got fed up. Uninstalled one, and reinstalled it.

Got a warning that it was previously installed, do I want to re-install?

Yes.

Magically the rest of my apps started working again. :O

For some reason when I put my ringtones into the ringtones section and then sync them, they do not appear on my phone. Did I do something wrong?

Oops, I missed this post.

Anyone know how much it might cost to get the ear receiver replaced (assuming that is the problem)? Maybe I'm better off just upgrading to the 3G.

so when do you guys think we will hear a respons from Apple regarding the 3g problems they are having on most iphones?

Mine is just causing problems and cant even find 3G connections anymore and when it does find it, they usually dont work haha

What problem is this and why do you say it is happening on most phones?

The software is so buggy ever since 2.0. Before, only Safari would crash if it was "overworked" now even the freaking notepad crashes at random times. WTF Apple?

well ready this

apple.com thread

and its not only USA that is having problems, all over europe! here in sweden it works like crap, its in a lot of news papers here in sweden.

from what I know, not one from Apple has come out of their holes to adress this problem and let us people know what they are doing to fix it.

I just had a talk with swedens biggest telecom company Telia and they told me that they are getting SOOO MANY people calling in to them who has bought an Iphone 3G complaining that 3G doesnt work, telia is the one who sells Iphone here in sweden and they know that there is something wrong with the software in the Iphone for 3G service..

I'm sure they are working on a solution and the reason why they haven't said anything is because it's bad PR and they don't have a solution yet. The original iPhone was very stable in terms of software (except for my aforementioned problems with Safari crashing) so I have faith that the bugs are a result of rushing the 2.0 update to meet the launch deadline. All these problems will be resolved in due time. At the very least, by the time Apple's next conference rolls around.

For what it's worth, my 3G, which I got jut prior to the 2.0 firmware update, has had zero problems with the 2.0 software whatsoever. Of course, I also have almost no non-default apps on there short of the MySpace, Remote, and Pennies applications respectively. Pennies, btw, is a bare bones, but nice little finance app for $3; it's from the same people responsible for AppZapper on OS X.

A quick search in the thread didn't yield much on screen protectors, but I may have been searching the wrong terms. Any consensus on how those fare?

I just bought Pennies and it's really great. It's always nice to discover these cool little apps :)
