Is good fantasy/fiction based television gone?

Star Trek has sucked since, DS9 ended, Voyager was OK in parts.

Angel the show that defined fantasy on television was canned prematurely at the height of its lifespan. Firefly was canned less than 13 episodes in.

Carnivale seems a little too, well there's no FUN, it looked really gritty n shit to me. Adventure seems lost with 80 CSI spin offs, reality television, and shows on building motorcycles hogging the air waves. Its all over :(

Stargate is alright, but Battlestar Gallactica is great. Might fit the "too gritty" thing though. Neither Stargate nor the spinoff Atlantis have the same problem. Stargate SG-1 especially never takes itself too seriously.

Lost is also solid, even if it doesn't appear to be fantasy-based at first glance.

And there's also the new Doctor Who series, which looks like it will be good from the first episode. Not appearing to have anybody pick it up for US airings, but it's still out there.

Somebody's forgetting the best scifi show - Battlestar Galactica. Stargate is still quite good as well. Deadwood is a excellent "adventure" show. Finally Lost is another quality show.
You are definitely right about CSI though (I only watch Las Vegas) and Law and Order is horrible. Hopefully next year will bring about more quality than crap though.

Awesome pun, although likely not intended. Well done.

I wouldn't call Lost fantasy, personally, no matter how much it kicks ass. It is more of an action/drama with fantastical elements.

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA

The last episode was so fucking good. I mean there's that scene between Adama and Apollo and you're like "this show can't be this good". And it just keeps getting better.

Stargate SG-1/Atlantis are good as well.

Considering how badly the fan reaction to the concept of the new show was I'm nothing but happy that it turned out as good as it is. Proved a few things about fan boys.
