Is it just me who can't stand the constant negativity surrounding this new generation?

I mean yeah, this year hasn't been perfect in terms of the launches of both consoles, communication in parts from Sony has been shoddy and the lack of first party titles available from launch on XSX/XSS is disheartening, but I can't believe that almost every forum I see not just here but most places has so much negativity surrounding every minute aspect of this new generation.

Is it just salty people that couldn't afford/sort out a preorder being salty and pissing on everyone's' parade? Is it just the case with online sites being a cesspit for Debbie Downers?

I honestly don't know, neither do I get why such a negative reception is occurring. These are innovative pieces of powerful technology, at affordable prices and with pretty good launch line ups available in my honest opinion.

It may not be as big of a leap as PS1 to PS2 for example but it is a huge leap in terms of polishing up the console experience for people in ways that they have never had available before.

Will there be teething problems with early units? Of course. Will there be a drought of titles due to the Rona? Most likely. But I still feel like this is going to be an amazing generations for all platforms.

People are waiting for their new machines, most often they sold their old ones, so what better to do than warring.
*cough*

Stay away from the internet and just enjoy your new console (if you have one).

I'm having a blast with my PS5, despite Jim Ryan constantly coming across as a capital cunt.

I'm just salty about sony going crossgen for 3 years.

I mean ok i was salty because they only had a 10 tf machine but it's not their fault, crybabies can't spend more than 500 dollars for a machine that remain in their house for 7-8 years...

I am loving my PS5 and my Series X, and am fine with people being critical if it is constructive but most people just wanna shit on things and war to their heart's content.

Despite?! Who cares what the CEO of the company does or believes in. It's like saying I have an iPhone despite Tim Cook being gay.

After playing the PS5 for a day Im really happy with It.
Tech wizards and haters can piss off. And if you enjoy your Series X good for you, dont listen to the hate.

Its a way better start than last generation, tech and games wise

All I know is I've been in gaming heaven since last Thursday with my Ps5, Astrobot, Miles Morales and Demon's Souls. It's a fabulous console. If people are bitter about that, then that's their problem.

I think a lot of it has to do with media personalities wanting to profit from the launch of these consoles so in the end we end up getting a lot of negativity. I've noticed that, even with videos and articles that are actually informative, they tend to lean into the console warring aspect for headlines even when it runs opposite to the body of work.

I don't think the newer generation has the same standard for system launches as the older audience did. A system launch used to be something really special and there was usually an exclusive that came out (sometimes packed in) that pretty much warranted the cost of entry.

So yeah, I can see why the new generation doesn't understand the pessimism seeing as they don't know any different, but I also completely understand the old guard that does saying that a remaster/remake of a 15 year old hardcore game and pretty much nothing else that can't be played on existing hardware isn't exactly lighting their shorts on fire.

It's the first time a new generation of consoles is released and the main selling point of those machines is to play OLD games with better fps instead of playing new games. Look at Xbox, 0 next gen games for Series S/X. Look at PS5, the "big" thing is Miles Morales, a Spider-Man addon that is also released for PS4 and Demon's Souls, a remake of a PS3 games. Where are the MIND BLOWING Next gen games that should blow our minds? Every new console was released always with some BIG game that wasn't possible on the previous console. Where are those games now? This is the first time in my life I didn't get a new console at launch because I have literally no reason to do that...all the games I want to play are on PS4 and PC and I already have them.

When we really have next gen games maybe we will have more "positivity".

Agree OP.

Nothing but bitching and moaning since the US launch.

I've personally been blown away by the tech, the innovation in haptics and controls and the sharpness of the systems and new QOL features.

The games are stunning, the experiences are next gen whether they are technically cross gen or not.

I see this over and over "there's nothing to play" but we've had higher quality launch games than any gen launch. Demons Souls, Spider Man, Astro Bot and COD have been legitimate classics and of such high quality you don't see that on average on a system launch.

There have been incredible improvements to older titles too as well as a huge collection on PS PLus for your sub.

I'm just baffled really. You must be right about people missing out on getting a console and being salty. Every launch has teething issues and problems with hardware that usually iron out over time. Look at any launch.

I also feel as though one side expected more due to marketing and expectation was through the roof, the reality is the experience is more advanced on one console than the other and its not the horse most people backed. That usually leads to some animosity and anger towards being sold something that doesn't live up to the hype off the bat.

Give it time, as the gen eases in and teething issues are ironed out and more games are announced I hope the discourse fades away.

Both companies have a great product this time around. The competition is on and we players are getting the benefits. We have to thank Lisa Su and AMD for that.

I'm just salty that online retailers still can't figure out how to weed out bots from buying up damn near all the inventory. F*ck scalpers.

If they would allow a quantity of 1 maximum per account, it might would have solve the problem a little.

I think they prefer the first arrived, first served.

I personally can't stand how the range of topics on the gaming forum has really constricted recently.. looking forward to when other things seep back in.. but yeah, for mine, I've tried to make a thread which attempted to find new grounds for understanding, etc.. frankly i think it did a pretty good job~

Personally it's the least appealing generation leap for me to be honest, so don't expect me to pat it on the back.

On a wider range: people are stuck at home + didn't get the system because supply was handle very poorly = huge numbers in ranting.

I keep seeing this argument but taking the playstation into account.

PS1 - PS2
Tekken vs Tekken Tag
Cool Boarders vs SSX

These were simple upgrades on existing games the main improvement being graphical fidelity and action on screen.

PS2 - PS3
Timesplitters vs Resistance

Again the main upgrade is fidelity, HD and multiplayer online.

PS3 - PS4
Resistance vs Killzone SF
Assasins Creed vs Black flag

Larger worlds, more fidelity, share button , touch pad and QOL upgrades.

For this gen there are arguably MORE innovations than previous with haptic, adaptive triggers, faster loading times, improved fidelity, improved speeds online, the help guide on games, activity cards.

Like what do people want?

great games that a previous gen couldn't run, or a game that is so good it demands your attention.

how is this difficult to understand?

Maybe My point works better on my situation because I was always a Nintenfag and my generation changes were always brutal. For example as a Star Wars fan that had a N64 this is what Game Cube offered me AT LAUNCH:

Now Microsfoft is just offering us to play the Xbox1 catalog at 60/120 fps on Series S/X or higher resolution versions of COD and Assassins Creed. Meanwhile Sony's proposal is a DLC of a PS4 game and a Remaster of that PS4 game for 80€ and the god damn "Ray Tracing".

So I will play smart and just wait for the "Gears of War" or the "Uncharted" of this generation cause just now "playing games i have but at 60fps and real reflections lol" is not enough for me.

Like what do people want?

NEW GAMES ON NEW CONSOLES. Not OLD GAMES on NEW CONSOLES. Easy.

The negativity is an illusion. I don't post much but I absolutely love my next gen console. The haptics and the triggers on astro , Demon's souls which looks fantastic and sounds terrific (the dragon sounds incredible in 3d with pulse 3d headset, you feel you gonna be eaten alive)... The snappy and beautiful UI and the ultra fast loading times too. Everything is so smooth with 60 fps too...

Negative and unhappy people just post a lot more (it's true with idiots too by the way), that's what creates the illusion.

I am just sad that my PS5 was faulty and I sent it back but now there is just none available and I have to wait until I don't know when.
Thanks amazon for no replacement. :lollipop_pensive:

Its hard to understand because your point is based on what? That PS3 couldn't run black flag with lower graphics and fps? Because it could. Also PS3 had multiple Killzone games that had similar gameplay mechanics as SF the main difference being graphics and touch pad features.

Take it back a gen, Ps2 had a MP game in timesplitters, what did Resistance do so differently? It had better graphics and a single player campaign and larger mp integration to go with an online connected device.

PS2 to PS1 , PS1 literally had x3 Tekken games the main difference was you could tag in another fighter.

By the way are any of these games other than Tekken maybe considered all time greats? I think not. No launch console other than the switch maybe has launched with a game considered to be worth buying the system for.

This is fair and I understand that, especially if your more used to those jumps. Unfortunately I think we now exist in a time where grlahical improvements have almost plateaued from a technological perspective. You will see diminishing returns and less wow jump moments, the next frontier is simply getting closer to realism and we're pretty much there in some cases and I think its not down to artistic interpretation and gameplay features/mechanics and experiences.

Demon's Souls is the most next gen game right now. You couldn't have this level of graphics and lighting last gen. It's sometimes like a painting in motion. The full experience is next gen actually, from incredible sound to haptics, and even the activity cards and video hints when needed.

Miles Morales in fidelity mode too with RT everywhere can't be matched at all in last gen games.

It was pretty alarming spending a weekend actually owning and having fun with the PS5 and then coming back here to all the vitriol, yeah.

Got my PS5 DE yesterday and loving it so far.

Will post my overall thoughts when I stop using almost all of my spare time to play demon's souls.

i absolutely loathe it

and ive been vocal about it in the past too. but at this point, theres no reason to wast effort, time or energy thinking about it or trying to convince people to stop. they are going to do it until they dont, then other younger people will take their place. trolls have certainly taken root, so that doesnt help. and in general, people just love to argue, and this is the only place gamers get to do that. so you just have to ignore it.

ive also been vocal about how i think mods do a really good job here, as far as letting people duke it out vs removing people from topics (as opposed to banning), and of course the lovely troll tags (i love that! so smart).

so its not all bad. just keep the shit posts coming and make sure you really stick it to the trolls. try to join in on the fun without becoming a troll yourself. either that, or stop posting on gaming forums 🤷‍♂️

It's always like this on console launches. At the very least it's not as pessimistic as last gen where it was supposed to be the last console launch and mobile shit will be the future.

Digital Nation Rise UPPPPPPP!

Love the ease of access of the DE, especially without that loud ass disc drive.

Miles Morales is amazing if you haven't tried it yet, highly recommend.

How I see this is that a lot of the hate has been because the consoles are just PC's at this point. Lots of the hardcore gamers have gone PC and are basically dissing and downplaying the consoles at any moment possible.

Add that and the fact that they are mostly right. The technology crown is always on PC and gamers are hard to wow anymore with a new generation when it comes to visuals.

Add on top of that fact that the new games this round are just remasters of old games and one console relying on only backwards compatibility in 120fps, which has been available on PC for some time now, see the first point.

I'm enjoying Astro on PS5 with my daughters insanely. I was one of the pessimists, but one small single thing made me smile again; the monkey climb in GPU Jungle when I couldn't press the trigger too hard or the stone broke. That made me feel like "this ain't so bad after all!".

TBH I found the lead up to XB1 and PS4 more annoying, it just happened that XB1 was a disaster of a console, so most people were right to shit on it.

It's the overall negativity in society bleeding over into gaming. We are not immune from what has happened to the rest of the world.
This.

A lot of gaming has been hijacked by far left SJW influence in the last decade. Try to ignore that and there's still a lot to be positive about.

I guess we need more feel good threads from people like us who actually love their next gen console and games.
ive considered making a console war-less thread. but it would just attract the trolls and haters lol. there is literally nothing we can do. we jsut have to learn to live amongst them hahaha

I suspect there are a lot of people like me that really wanted to like these new consoles, but as the release date got closer and closer increasingly found themselves less and less excited about them.

For all the hyped up talk and handwaving, all these new machines really seem to offer is some combination of higher resolution, higher frame rates and more shininess. But even going back to the PS360 generation none of those things seemed like serious impediments to making good games - I still had this hope in the back of my mind that there might be something announced that really showed the potential of these machines to do something more than just make games prettier. But that didn't happen - and the more I thought about it the more I thought that looking back at the PS4/Xbone generation that we already have lots of games that have better graphics than gameplay.

I'm honestly still waiting for the "I really want to play that" game on either of these new consoles. Honestly, I think it's less a matter of negativity, and more one of exasperation.

I get your point entirely and hope you find the game that wows you soon my friend, all I can say is that the PS5 has made me unable to touch my PS4 again, it is that much of a step up for me personally.
