Is there a title you would buy on multiple systems ?

For my part, I'll buy Puyo Pop Fever for any system I can.

I've bought Capcom vs SNK2 for all four systems. I've got Marvel vs Capcom 2 for PS2, Xbox and DC. I've got SF Anniversary Collection for PS2 and Xbox. I've got both Fatal Frames for Xbox and PS2. I bought Silent Hill 2 for PS2 and Xbox.

I bought Shenmue 2 for my Dreamcast and twice for my Xbox (PAL and NTSC). I also bought Shenmue JAP and PAL for my Dreamcast and KOTOR NTSC and PAL for my Xbox.

Oh... and I bought Final Fantasy VIII for my PC when it came out and later I bought the PSX version.

Other games I have more than once (but getting the second version through bundles):

Prince of Persia Sands of Time PS2 and PC
Beyond Good & Evil PS2 and PC (hating it, because it has no joypad support)
Morrowind Xbox and PC
XIII Xbox and PC
Splinter Cell Xbox, Gamecube and PC

Puyo Pop Fever here, too. I have it for DS and GC and I'm getting it for PC once I get some money together.
I've done some searching for it and can't seem to find any site selling it. I've also seen a place to download the Palm OS version, but as it is all in japanese, I can't decipher how to do it (or how much it costs).

I own Ikaruga for both Dreamcast and GameCube
FFVII and FFVIII for both PS1 and PC
Shenmue II for both Xbox and Dreamcast
Quake III Arena for both Dreamcast and PC
Unreal Tournament for both Dreamcast and PC

Hrm, can't think of any others. I would probably buy Rez for PS2 if I could find it (already have DC)

BTW what's the difference between all those Puyo Pop Fevers?

Not much difference. The DS version is portable, but the GC version has 3d effects (wehich i presume the psp version also has) and the PC version has online play.

Hm... the closest I get to that is... Excitebike, I guess, since I purchased it for the NES way back, and about a year ago picked up the Classic NES version for the GBA. (First US version to allow you to save your track!)

The closest from there, not counting retro packs or bonuses, is SMC for GCN and SMC+ for Xbox, but really, SMC+ is a very different game, completely different menu interface, features, more games... generally a much better package.

I'm usually pretty picky about buying the "best" version of a game for one console, and no more. Well, I do have Sonic R for both the PC and Saturn, and multiple copies of Sonic CD (some PC, some Sega CD), but they're not as similar as PC versions of console games in more recent times.

I just can't seem to stop myself from buying all these versions of SF2 :(

dumped all my SNES & PS1 versions though, only have SFAC & Mega Drive SSF2 now

Yeah, goddammit.

Fighters mostly, seems like I have at least two copies of every good fighter that came out this gen. I hate doing this, but it helps with controller juggling.

Also, a good single player game that I like, if the new version has upgrades. Thus I have all three US versions of Silent Hill 2.

why do you guys do this?
Puyo Pop Fever on GC : Because I love that game

then

Puyo Pop Fever JP import on DS : Wanted to be able to play "on the go"

then

Bought Puyo Pop Fever for GC to give to one of my friend : To be able to train some competition

then

Puyo Pop Fever JP import for PSP : Curiosity, wanted to see what it looked like, and wanted to be able to play the game on the go if I only have my PSP on me

then

Puyo Pop Fever for DS (US version) : Wanted to play VS my friend on DS, but he has the american version, and the 2 versions are not compatible with each other for multicart play. Thus, we had to wait longer on load times because we had to play single cart.

Yes, I'm a Puyo Pop Fever whore.

I know someone who's bought the Sims 2 PC, Xbox, GC, and Ps2 versions, and plans on buying the GBA, DS, and PSP versions. (yeah, I don't get it, either)

If the new version offers something new to the fan, then it's a no-brainer. And then the fan might opt to hang on to their other versions as a collector rather then resell them.

Like, SH2 Xbox is clearly an inferior version to the Greatest Hits version on PS2; I don't need the Xbox version anymore. However, I already owned the Xbox verion (which I bought for the new content not in the original version) when I bought the GH version, and I love SH2, so why not hang on to it?

The fighters usually upgrade themselve from version to version too. Xbox version usually add online play, so that an easy sell even if I already own a PS2 version.

I probably wouldn't buy multiples solely for collector purposes; each version has to offer me something.

I bought the PS2 Soul Calibur 2 for 3.48 at TRU even though I had the GC version.

Green tag is still going on, right? And still 90% off? I might pick up Metroid Fusion and Xbox SC2...

There have been several titles over the years that I've bought at least 4 or 5 times over on multiple systems. Most of these are classic games from the 1977-1984 period, which have been ported and/or emulated numerous times over the years. I've bought them 3 or 4 times for various old Atari systems, and then again more recently in some compilation pack for PS1, PS2, or GBA.

One example is Ms. Pac-Man, which I own on:

Atari 2600
Atari 5200
Atari 7800
Atari Lynx
Super NES
PlayStation (as part of Ms. Pac-Man Maze Madness)
Game Boy Advance (as part of Namco Museum)
Jakks Pacific Namco Ms. Pac-Man TV Games (QVC special edition)

Some other games that fit in this category include Pac-Man, Defender, Centipede, and Joust. I currently have four different ways of playing Centipede on the PS2 (three of those involve PS1 discs). :)

For games originating from 1985-1995, most of my repeats have to do with getting a game on a TV-based console or computer, and also having the corresponding game on a handheld.

There aren't very many recent games that I've purchased on more than one system. A few examples that I can think of are Street Fighter Alpha 3 (PS1 and GBA), ChuChu Rocket! (Dreamcast and GBA), and Iron Soldier 3 (PS1 and NUON).

Morrowind: PC/xbox
Psychonauts: PC/xbox and I'll probably get the ps2 version eventually

I would have bought gtasa for xbox, but it apparently isn't much better than the ps2 version, so I'm not going to bother

Honestly, which is the better version? I could jump through hoops to get all my skills & items imported on to a memory card in PAL format to play Shenmue 2 on DC, or I could just play the Xbox version. Is it worth the extra trouble to stay true to the DC?

No

You might prefer to play it on the DC.
You might prefer the Japanese dialog with subtitles.

But your efforts will largely go to waste, unless you have collected a shit ton of miniatures.
You'll get better moves just from moving to the second game.

I moved from US Shenmue 1 to Euro Shenmue 2, and I was pissed how little my progress was reflected in the sequel.

Really? Damn. Even if I've almost maxed out most of my Shenmue 1 moves? All that training to waste!

Is there a title I would buy on multiple systems? Hell no, fool. Games are expensive as they already are. Maybe I would, if the game would be vastly different or if money grew on my back.

I didn't max out my entire moveset, but I did put a lot of time into the elbow charge, until that was a one-hit kill against seven dudes at once.

When I checked my list in Shenmue 2, I found that the elbow charge didn't appear to be much higher than any other move, and that I had progressed in moves I had never used as well as gained entirely new moves.

I've been told that you fighting skill doesn't really matter much in the big picture.

In any case, don't be expected all your damn money to carry over.

Wow, so basically you're telling me that your move skill levels don't carry over maxed-out even if they are in the first game. Seems they readjust them... Thanks for saving me some time!

I bought Rayman 2 for DC and Rayman 2: Revolution for PS2 (basciallly the same game). I loved that game so much that just the fact that Rayman 2 PS2 was enough to sell it to me. Man, thinking of Rayman 2 just puts into focus what a disappointment Rayman 3 was compared to it.

Rarely. I still keep The Raiden Project, Raiden DX (import), and Raiden II (PC). Also have gone through Resident Evil 2 on DC, then PC, and now GC. I would have stuck only with the top-notch PC version, but RE2 and XP don't like talking to each other...

Usually though, I purchase out of curiosity for multiple versions, then return to my original version of the game. Like trying out Tempest X3 but then returning to the original Jaguar Tempest 2000; belatedly checked out SH2 on PS2 (partly just to get a gamesave to open some secrets for SH3) before tossing it and simply sticking with my good ol' bought-at-release SH2:Restless Dreams on Xbox; etc.

RE4 PS2 is the next pretty much guaranteed "curiosity" pick-up, but to be bought cheaply and compare out of curiosity to my GC original.

No, not really... Are there franchises I'll buy on multiple systems? Yeah... Any Namco fighter, Resident Evil, Mega Man, Mario, Zelda, etc.

On a technical point of view the xbox version is the better one. Less slowdown, more going on on the screen, not so many pop-ins, cool graphical effects, the photo mode, Shenmue The Movie included.

But I also loved the sharper look of the Dreamcast version and the japanese voices gave the game a more authentic feeling.

I'm happy to have them both. If you can live without the japanese voices, get the Xbox version which offers more value for its small price.

RE2. PS, N64, DC, GCN. Last two were really cheap, the N64 was $105 CDN (highest I ever pay for a non import, second highest was Doom on SNES at $100. :( )

I purchased the Collector's Editions of Mortal Kombat: Deception for Xbox and PS2. Sue me, I liked it.

Also bought DOOM3 for PC and last week for Xbox. After playing online co-op with a very cool guy on Xbox Live, I'm convinced the cost was utterly justified. :)
