Console generations aren't dead evidently by the fact that they're launching a new generation in two years and are not relying on the PS5 for years to come (ironically, as many people here wish them to do), but the future is about cross-gen? Sure, not even something decided by Sony on a vacuum, but by the industry at large, and that's mostly for AAA heavy hitters in the case of Sony. If you think that this is what killed Xbox when PS5 was pretty much in the exact same position, welp.
BTW, over bolded, if you paid attention to how Sony has handled these things over the course of time, you will notice that this is not necessarily true. For more recent examples, look up the platforms for both LEGO Horizon Adventures and MLB The Show 25.
My opinion? Please explain to me how haptic feedback or 3D audio are more of an unique proposition over portability with the same library.
You made the argument that people bough the PS5 for these features in spite of a similar library to the PS4, I'm making the argument that people will buy the PS6 for this feature in spite of a similar library to the PS5.
Just accusing the other (who has addressed most of your points) of going 'defence force mode' or a similar dismissive remark is the last resort when you have nothing to say.
Launching new hardware is not the same thing as launching a new generation.
Microsoft will launch new hardware as well.
If a product hasn't distinctive games and big exclusives using the hardware strengths it's not a new generation, it's just one of the possible new hardwares where you can play multiplatform cross gen games.
I didn't say that people bought PS5 for 3D audio , they bought it because they thought the whole package was a new generation, because it had some compelling new features including instant loadings and it was a much more powerful hardware than the PS4 and PS4 Pro bringing real time ray tracing to consoles, it launched at an affordable 399$ base price before all the price increases.
Sony didn't mandate continued support for the PS4, there have been exclusives since launch although most people probably thought the cross gen phase would end much earlier, that there would be more exclusives and a much better first party support than what Sony delivered because they fucked up with their gaas ambitions.
Many people are disappointed with the PS5 gen for these reasons and next time Sony won't have the credit of the PS4 gen.
Next time people will know they can comfortably stick with their PS5 or PS5 Pro's because cross gen games is all they'll got and this will hurt hardware sales.
The moment you refuse to acknowledge all these risks, the obvious parallels with Microsoft's strategy and the elephant in the room that if this is the strategy, going full multiplatform with their games might indeed be around the corner, it's obvious that you're in full defence force mode.
I have more than enough to say as proved by my replies but it's useless you just want to defend them at all costs.
We'll see what happens in two years.
