They realy release so many sku's with so big performance difference? And we thought xss was stupid idea. What happened to Sony management after ps4 era, they are beyond stupid.

PlayStation needs a handheld for the ecosystem now that PC has handhelds.

And it can't be a separate one with its own set of games like Vita was.

80m PS5 sold says otherwise

And ps6light wouldn't even be fullhd native, it will be 400-500p reconstructed to 1080p that will look complete shit on 50+" TV
It's portable performance for portable device with portable gaming parameters.
Just because they have sold 80 million consoles does not mean the mass market cares about 4K.

Based on yesterday's MLID leaks, which model(s) would you buy?

For me, I'm not too bothered about full 4K and considering prices I'll likely just plump for the base model.

None of them.

I'm gonna buy the best version of the PS6 console available at launch.

PS6 Portable is out of the question, though I'd buy a PS Portal with 120hz OLED day 1.

Are these leaks legit? That 36GB of RAM on PS6S Canis console which supposedly will retail for an MSRP between $249 - $399 is kinda a lot.

Anyways, I'll go with the full fat PS6 (Orion) and probably pick up the handheld a year or two later.

The flexibility of being able to play modern AA/AAA on these PC handhelds makes the idea of buying a stationary console increasingly unappealing and archaic to me. Like I could be in the mood for something and my PS5 is there staring at me....so I reach in my draw and bring out my Legion Go. I just find the handheld renaissance to be far more interesting nowadays. So I seriously doubt I'd be getting the next PS console, if anything I'd get the handheld. Nothing was drawing me to buy a PS5 as this gen wore on, and I only got a used slim last summer because I found a really good deal on marketplace. There are days I look at that thing and ask myself why did I even bother? I'm not that tempted to play it or even buy games for it. It's pretty much my PS4 Prox2 machine, playing more Fortnite with my 7 year old nephew and brother than anything else.

Doubtful

3 spec targets would cause headaches for developers, lead to worse optimisation and confuse the market.
I wouldn't say so. Sony needs something for the Japanese market, so a handheld makes sense, and the regular PS6 will be for the rest of the world, but a Pro mid gen step can be sold to enthusiasts again. Much like PS4 Pro and PS5 Pro. Games are not even that greatly optimsed for current Pro but usually add something that should overall make it worthwhile, for some. The PS5 Pro sold not really great (PS4 Pro did not either) but some resolution bump, some improved PSSR, a notch better RT depth or whatever, something that is developed anyway for the PC versions of the games, basically stuff only needs to be activated, which can be enough again without causing too much trouble.

Even though I'm not that big on handheld gaming, I would likely pay a €100 premium for the option to do so.

Would need to see exact price and performance before I decide, but the price for Orion may be too rich for me as I play less these days.

Series S all over again. Hopefully everyone holds the same energy as they did towards that box.

This is even worse, sony are acting like they are a little lost and just trying to copy the Switch to drive numbers next gen but I think its just going to cannibalise it all.

That's because Series S held back the generation for all third parties.

Wouldn't blame Sony for jumping into the gutter with them, what's to lose now?

None for me. I'll wait for the games.

But hypothetically if I were to get one it would be the PS6 as that is the one that will most definitely still use physical media (disc). And have BC with PS4 and 5.

Japan market is the main reason for handheld and hybrid. Sony really needs the handheld in Japan because handheld and mobile gaming is what Japanese prefers this days. That is my Switch 1 and 2 are demolishing Ps5 in terms of sales. The numbers are not even close.

Maybe the handheld, but it's not very exciting. We can probably expect a huge brick with a 2-hour battery life.

I'll stick with the current gen for now I don't feel like I'll be missing out on anything besides GaaS and remasters.

A Switch 2 and PC combo is perfectly fine.

The Canis Handheld and Canis Console seems to be on the same level and the gap between both of them and the Orion could be much bigger than between the XSS and the XSX.
I buy a console for the whole lifetime and then 600 $ for the Orion sounds nice to me.

If Sony goes this route it will certainly be some interesting times. Like why would anyone buy PS6 Lite if it's basically equivalent to a PS5? They will just stick to their PS5 in late 2027 when this releases (or even 2028).

And I have to wonder what is the market for $600-700+ handhelds that can run PS5 and PS4 games. We will find out I guess.

Personally I have no reason to upgrade to any Sony console. I have PS5 for my PS4 games and some PS5 ones. And I have PC / Steamdeck / Switch for the rest. Sony exclusives were not my cup of tea besides Astrobot and some GT7 this gen and I don't see anything on horizon (pun not intended) that would change that.

Even with the trend in gaming is more into and handheld or mobile phones, I still prefer console gaming. I go for ps6 console. I'm still on fence if I will buy a Ps6 in the future because of so many dissapointing decisions by Sony. But I still hope by the time Ps6 comes out, it will have allot of exclusives.

Why would Sony release 2 versions at launch? Do they not see how well that worked out for Xbox? Or if this is simply the next gen "roadmap" like it has been the past 2 gens, then I'll likely go with the base console at launch. All digital, no potty porty.
But it depends on the price difference too.

It looks like you spent a lot of energy defending that plastic box. You're out there supporting every single decision Xbox makes - even damn right crazy ones, wild to see. GG

Is the idea that the handheld is a portable only or a dockable? I would love to say I'm only in for the standard console but I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't buy the portable as well.

3 reasons for this…

1. Diminishing returns in graphics
2. Rising hardware costs
3. Series S relative success (vs Series X) and PS5 Pro flopping
Is it a flop yet though? Last I saw it was selling roughly the same as the PS4 Pro but a little lower and unless we have concrete numbers and expectations it's hard to definitely call something a flop IMO.

In which universe series S is a success?
If anything it helped to make xbox series to become a completely failure, together with gamepass
Hasn't the Series S sold much more then the Series X? I believe at some point the Series S was almost 75% of worldwide sales so selling 3x your flagship console is a success in itself even if the overall brand is a failure.

IMO the Series S was a good idea implemented badly. I think a Series S with 6TF and 12GB of memory would have been a much better product and held off some of the issues it's had.

It's the dark side of gamepass strategy that led Xbox to it's demise
Series S compliments gamepass perfectly - gamepass is 90% of old and indie stuff and Series S is cheap device that plays them good. A good complimentary to each other.
Problem is that these things reinforce each other against high budget AAA release those a) ask for money b) require actual performance
People like shiny stuff and AAA is storefront of it in gaming. And Series S is just a crude unlikable guy everyone like to forget. Other problem is that Series S had to compete with other crude gaming devices like laptops and mobile and gamepass lost to f2p gaming, abundant on the latter, as cheapest value proposition.

This hit Series very hard in 3rd-4th years when quality difference become obvious. People either want it cheap and free and play on PC/mobile or want some quality when they pay money for specialized device. And Series S couldn't differentiate itself enough to prove it's worth.

Either the portable or none.

I think I'd just wait a long time. Porting to PC, uninteresting games (for me), I just wouldn't be in a rush.

A new FF might sway me. If it's not shit like XVI though.

Looks like none of them have physical disc drive, so I'll skip PS6.

BTW the base PS5 is an excellent piece of hardware (kudos to Cerny), but the problem is the software, not the hardware. Both the UI and the exclusives this generation was a total disaster.

I'll remain on base PS5 until there was no more physical disc. Nintendo Switch 2 will be my next target. Maybe full PC in the future.

Western mentality happens (Just look at the Gears of Wars: Reloaded "save energy mode'. Is a total waste of time. This is sure a western ideia with add nothing to the game ). They think they can earn more money copying Microsoft strategy, but the problem is Xbox is not the one giving Microsoft profit, are their Windows OS, SAAS business is what keep Xbox division in the coma state for so long.

Sony will learn soon enough the consequences of copying this wonderful Xbox strategy, but in this case there is no Microsoft money to backup this Phil Spencer stupidity strategy.

Pro only and I hate PS Series S. I won't go into all the reasons but yeah, that shit pisses me off. If it isn't stronger than PS5 Pro we are basically getting no new generation and just a couple of new Pro options because everything that could run on the handheld should also run fine(and probably better) on PS5 Pro a console I already own, so the "generational upgrade" won't be as good.

All this just to wring a little more money out of people trendchasing.

What's worse? What if it succeeds and outsells the main console? What then Series S lovers? We will be proper fucked then.

Good thing the odds are Sony will fuck this up and Japan will have no interest, but it is just another example of how Sony won't let us have nice things anymore due to their poorly conceived money grabs like PSVR2. What was wrong with the portal? It plays full powered PS5 games with no need to gimp anything and it is cheap.

Probably just the base one, if any at all.

Don't really care about portable gaming.
And the pro console is too expensive to justify also getting fucked with all the extra console expenses like more expensive games and accesories and Ps+ which will probably be $100/year by then.

I'm not buying one if they don't have some big exclusives that appeal to me. Even if they did, I'll wait at least a year to see if I can get a PC port.

But assuming they have something like a From Software exclusive that I can't get on PC, I would buy whatever the highest end model is at the time. I would love to see them put out the Pro console at launch and not wait half-way into the generation, but I doubt they will do that. If they did though, I'd buy the Pro.

The portable is the only one I'm interested in, but a purchase depends on a lot of things.

If the PS6 proper is another redundant gaming platform that's huge and ugly, no thanks.
