Super Mario 64, surely?
"oh boy, run and jump. run and jump. whee, this is about as fun as halo. if this is the height of 3d platforming, i want a return to the 2d era stat. ten years later, they're still trying to sell copies of super mario 64. no one cares now. we all got over the shock of seeing mario in 3d. why do you think people hated sunshine? give me a proper sequel to super mario brothers 2 USA."

Virtua Quest.
"as an action rpg, it's not bad. of course, everyone's hyped it up as the virtua figher rpg before it was even revealed, a victim of its own hype. pretty enjoyable, weren't any other arpgs that came out around it."

Missile Command.
"old, boring, trackball sucks. but analog/mouse make it too easy. i have this awesome game where i click on a bunch of shit and stuff happens, it's called the internet."

Obscurity for the win:

Lords of Lunar

"Insert the Making of Lunar CD and when the video starts press Up, Down, Left, Right, Triangle, Start"

http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/psx/file/lunar_silver_star_story_lords.txt

(Even if not win still a badass game)
"well, lords of lunar is nothing more than a cheap warlords clone, which itself was little more than four player pong. it's fun for all of three seconds, up until you realize that actually throwing tennis balls at the other players is more fun."
Ash Housewares said:
come on, everyone loves Sim Ant right?

Oregon Trail?
"maybe if, you're like, stuck in a gradeschool's comptuer lab."
Marathon?
"i hear they tried to remake this and called it halo. still sucks. and the graphics, oh man, the graphics. shoot shoot shoot. am i shooting a wall or an enemy? i can't tell!"

How 'bout Odell Down Under?

Pitfall?

Adventure?

Day of the Tentacle?
"day of the tentacle had some of the most inane, illogical puzzle solutions ever. it wasn't funny, it was just stupid. i'm not even tackling the other three, seriously, you should know better - damn things barely count as games these days."

Now you're just being bitter for the sake of it. Are you channelling your inner Angry Face?

"mario 64 is a far, far cry from the perfect game everyone builds it up to be. you know what i always thought was fun? not jumping into walls trying to find the castle's secret passageway. maybe games were shittier back then, but this is just boring. i'd much rather the 2d marios, they were way more polished, easier to play and i didn't have to worry about tiptoing or slowly walking across on a small sliver, desperately balancing myself. bad game? not really. must play? no. and none of this excuses the part where nintendo launches a piece of hardware with the game, and then almost a decade later, tries to launch another damn system with the same core game! i collect enough stuff in real life, i don't feel like hunting down those damn stars to open the next level. i'd much prefer the linear gameplay of the earlier 2d outings."

Seriously: Mario 64 sucked the fun out of the Mario franchise. It looked cool and controlled like sweet, sweet butter, but the level designed sucked. Repetitive, and uncompelling. After you get about 30 stars it becomes a tedious retread through levels. Adn it's the only game I know where they actually *try* to kill you by fucking with the camera.

Mario 64-- other than the technical achievement and influnece on the industry (nt all good influence, I might add)-- the yawner. Give me SMB1 SMB2J, SMB3, SMW, YMW2(YI) any day.

Mortal Kombat: Sub Zero Mythologies
"greatly furthered/explained the mythologies and characters of mortal komat. in my collection forever." [/anyanka]
"at least he recognized that his fighting games were growing stale and tried to do something about it. the potential is there and there's some enjoyable parts, it just got rushed. not as bad as everyone makes it out to be, go in with an open mind. what other 2d brawlers were hitting then?"
Fantastic Four for PSX
"they really nailed the fantastic four mythos here. i mean, they even had she hulk! the developers obviously put a lot of thought into the game, it just fell behind on schedule. it's not as good as it could've been, but for fantastic four fans, especially the really hardcore ones, it's a good way to waste your weekend."

"for the love of god, did you watch the cutscenes? yea? try to play through again without skipping them. having fun? the gameplay is pretty limited, whee, i'm waiting in an air vent becuase i let the enemy see me by accident. not much fun, but then again, the enemies aren't that bright. oh man, the aiming is just terrible. i can see why some would enjoy the experience the first time through, but i'm so tired of this love on the battlefield shit. oh, that torture sequence was probably the epitomy of lame. whee, i can tap a button really fast. fuck you kojima, this is less a game and more a collection of lame-ass minigames."

what are you, just going through the inventory of my old eb?

"it's not a bad game at all, the engine's pretty solid. if you're a big fan or didn't play the other two games that used this engine, it's worth it for the new teams and stats. not a bad game by any means, but only worth it if you can't get the other two gretzky games."

I just want to go on record as saying Chrono Trigger is terribly overrated and nowhere near worth playing today.

I don't care if you are joking, I agree. Give me a Chrono Cross sequel! Trigger can go to hell.

BuddyC said:

Heh heh, I'm just trying to recall the worst reviewed games I've seen. MK:Mythologies got a 0% on ANT.com, and the Nagano Hockey one got a 0.0 from IGN64.

Final Fantasy VII

"The game that entered us into the era of pseudo shemales who want to prove to the world they aren't as gay as they actually are. Put a few ditzy females in there for the love story, add a villain that every 12 year old boy on earth will aspire to be, and an end of the world plot and you have Japa RPG success for the next 20 years. One word to describe FFVII and beyond: ANGST."

:D

For the record I liked FF7. ;)

Oh, I'm deadly serious.

Cross > Trigger and you can TAKE THAT TO THE BANK.

AND DEPOSIT IT IN YOUR ACCOUNT.

(if it counts, and hasn't been done: ) Ping Pals
"Ping Pals actually contains a lot of decent ideas, the problem is with the actual DS hardware. First, the WiFi range limits the radius that Ping Pals can be used in, and furthermore, each DS unit comes with a copy of PictoChat built into the hardware. While Ping Pals does some things better than PictoChat, it isn't $30 better. The assumption is that Ping Pals was originally developed as an alternative to PictoChat, and by the time Nintendo announced the inclusion of PictoChat with each DS, it was more cost-effective to release Ping Pals than to cancel it. Had both PictoChat and Ping Pals been released as stand-alone software, Ping Pals would be perfect for the kids at the playground. It's not a bad little piece of software, it's just limited by the hardware."

"First off, this isn't the Castlevania I know. What's with this RPG stuff? Where's my whip? With all this exploration and discovering new abilities, I feel like I'm playing Metroid. I guess it wouldn't be so bad if the series had returned to form after that, but no, every single 2D Castlevania is like this now. Ugh, this isn't why I'm a fan. Don't even get me started on the voice acting."
Phantasy Star 1
"the nice thing about rpgs is i can say the story was sucky, cliched and predictable and always be right. did i mention the exciting battle system? no? that's because there wasn't one."

Custer's revenge (yes i've played it)
"the game is worth playing if simply for the sex. games used to be a lot simpler, the experience was so much more pure back in those days. you kids today wouldn't understand it, but i wasted hours upon hours play custer's revenge and i loved every second of it. spoiled brats, the whole lot of ya."
Ignatz Mouse said:
I think Cosmic Race may be it. Would anybody defend it?
"for starters, did you actually play it?"

I totally agree dude.

Other than argument purely for the sake of it, I feel it's unlikely we will argue about BEM and the Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, since it's an entirely unreleased game that I made for the BBC Micro many years ago, and thus nobody really has a reference point to argue from except me.

Sweet, it's so rare to find someone else that actually agrees. Most of the people here hate it :(

"and as for tetris, i just get bored playing it. i feel no incentive to keep going, no reason to turn it back on. not to mention all the latest versions have been ass."

"oh no, it doesn't work like that. you can keep the burden of proof. prove to me that ever single member of this forum has played, and enjoyed their time with, custer's revenge. and if we're arguing my assumption, we're not arguing the game anymore, thus, it has no relevance in this thread."

My highschool actually had Oregon Trail in the classrooms ancient PC and computer lab...... Which is probably why I'm here and not in college. *hangs head in shame*

Buddy: I don't have to have played it to know it's crap, and I certainly wouldn't argue with anyone who said it was.
"but some of my favourite games got really bad reviews. it's cool to use reviews as a way of gauging your interest in a particular title, but to argue against it when you haven't even played it is pretty dumb. it's as bad as being a fanboy."

I'm still waiting for some kind of argument against Super Cars 2.. I really wonder what ill can be said of this game. Let me try..

"It's too much fun for a video game, what the fuck is this, how dare it entertains me!"
