It feels like it's been Years since the last truly exciting game announcement

Gay porn is where it's at.
Remember bloodborne when it first leaked? Aka "project beast"
The hype was fucking amazing
Remember BoTW trailer at the switch reveal conference?

It feels like nothing is ever as exciting anymore
Everything is just too fucking bland and soulless
Am i the only one feeling this way

I dunno, I'm excited as shit for Resident Evil 4 re-imagined in the way they did 2 and 3. Hype was a little deflated by the fact that it was the industry's worst kept secret, but hype is just that, hype.

You were hyped for Bloodborne but not Elden Ring?

I think the problem is you. Honestly there are so many 'video games suck now' threads on here all the time. They're always still good, the problem is that people are just sad and cynical.

If you are only looking at AAA companies, then it's normal to feel disappointed, as most are just making soulless crap to be vessels for micro-transactions, NFTs and the like.
But in the AA space and indie companies, there are a lot of great stuff. Lots of innovation in gameplay and design.

The problem is you. These announcements bored the shit out of me specifically. I was more excited for the Quake Remaster, which was announced the day it was released. This is because these things are subjective. What excites me doesn't necessarily excite you. Another Sony cinematic third person action adventure game with a strong focus on cutscenes? Pass. Supreme Commander 3? Shut up and take my money.

There's plenty of amazing games on the horizon. If none of them excite you, maybe try to ask why?

Soon the cross gen period will be gone and Sony will reveal the next gen titles they are making. Xbox will also use all the studio they now have and at least one of those games( starfield, the bethesda indiana jones, whatever the doom team is doing...) will be awesome.

GTA 6 is coming too. So in the meantime I have Tlou remake god of war, Resident evil 4 remake and indies like the plucky spire to wait.

But yes without E3 and with Sony doing his own thing and the disruptions caused by covid the hype moments are weaker than in the ps4 era. Hope this will change soon.

No you are not, but neither Bloodborne nor BOTW hyped me. The last games that hyped me were Starfield, the Blood Remake and WOTLK classic. The fact that 2 of those are old games says it all. Future hypes i could imagine are GTA VI or some really cool VR shit.

And getting older. It's hard to get as excited for games as you did 10 years ago.

I agree. But I don't think is your personal opinion.

The industry is changing a lot, there are fewer games and those usually are more of a safe bet, so less impressive or exciting.

I was playing Battlefield: Hardline these days and was blown away remembering how games like that don't exist anymore. This might be a good thing, but I miss random AAA generic-looking games.

Yeah, I feel the same way OP. It's probably the covid gap. I recently got hyped by modern warfare 2 and the callisto protocol (and other games in 2023), but the summer and fall are dry as fuck this year. Lazy ass devs, hurry up!

Funny I thought BOTW looked shit at the time and it was only after I bough it once, sold it, and then bought it again... that I finally realized it was hall-of-fame material.

But yeah I know what you mean. I wasn't expecting much from Xbox anyway (sorry, it's true) but I thought we get at least something good from Playstation. Turns out GT7 looks so similar to GT Sport that you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference as an outsider unfamiliar with the series, God of War Ragnarok just looks like an expansion for PS4 God of War, and Horizon Forbidden West somehow looks great but doesn't quite give me that "wooooooooooooah" factor.

Think the last time I was genuinely blown away was the Uncharted 4 reveal that starts with Drake's face in a puddle somewhere... and that was aaaaaaaages ago.

Other than that it's probably a symptom of (1) getting old and (2) the more you see/learn/know, the less that surprises you and/or you're less inclined to give companies the benefit of the doubt.

Demon's Souls remake made me extremely hype. One of my favorite games of all time getting the next gen treatment was an awesome feel. Walked on clouds for weeks up until launch. Haven't bought a console at launch since Dreamcast so it was a pretty big deal for me.

I'd say games are better than ever, but truly exciting is hard to achieve since the last big transition was Mario 64 (3D). VR had some nice immersive moments, but its games are in their core not different and it did never come close to the first time running around with Mario and not just left and right.

I personally don't have that problem, I was super hyped for Xenoblade 3 and for me it absolutely delivered.

Lol not even close:

Ds remake
Callisto
Botw 2 for many people
Ragnarock for many people
Hogwarts for many people
Prime 4

And these are just some AAA projects.

Nothing announced so far excite me in the slightest, and I find myself playing older gen games, nowadays everything is multi player focused or the same formula repeated over and over again, this industry is stagnant

i think gaming might not be for you anymore ? how old are u ?

maybe you need a long break from gaming , focus on something else

im honestly very excited for alot of games

It's pretty hard to get me excited about a game announcement. I think the last thing for me was the FF7R announcement trailer. That is partially due to my taste in games though. I know a lot of folks were excited originally for cyberpunk and elden ring. I'd probably be excited for an announcement for a remake of FF8, FF9, or they just made a mega man legends 3 game(not the game that was originally shown or leaked though). An Onimusha game announcement would also get me excited. Maybe a Devil May Cry but I kind of felt that the last game was simply good.

Depends on what you're expecting.

This year were like ten indie games announced I'm totally excited for.

Really want
for instance

Callisto Protocol was a huge announcement for me.
A Dead Space spiritual sequel from the guys who made the OG.
Custom materials and rendering so it isnt just another Unreal Engine 4 game.
Sold.

Dragons Dogma 2 got announced with nothing but a logo.
Its frikken DD2 I had resigned myself to never getting a sequel.
So for me that was an huge announcement

Starfield, yes its delay hurt some of the hype.
But seriously even if its just Skyrim/Fallout in Space, im sold as hell.
Im hype.

Alan Wake 2 was nnounced, another game I was so sure we would never get.
But guess what, weve got an announced Alan Wake 2.

Black Myth: Wukong might only be a techdemo right now:
But that gameplay reveal was amazing and im really looking forward to it.
Resident Evil 4 Remake, considering theyve said they arent cutting any of the locations from Resident Evil 4 OG.
With Capcoms engine getting better and better, im waiting for the game, im super curious how they are gonna change the gameplay to the REmake age of Resident Evil games.
Diablo 4, even with Diablo Immortal giving Diablo a bad wrap im still looking forward to Diablo 4.

People are likely just a little bit jaded, they want something fresh but at the same time they want more of the same so it doesnt actually matter what gets announced they will be disappointed.
Theres also a weird, there are no games posts and statement, but legit I never run out of games to play cuz theres honestly too many for me to actually get through and have a life that can afford to buy all the games that dont exist.

I'm hyped for a lot of games. They just all release next year. Except maybe High on Life.

Feel the same OP. Thought that Starfield will pull me in again but when they acutally showed the game I was like.... meh...

Don't know for you guys but I find myself having a real hard time to get excited for AAA games nowadays. Not because they are bad but befcause monetazation is out of control. Almost every AAA game feel to me like a slot machine. Game are not released for the sake of art and fun but to generate revenue long term. I completely suck the fun out for me.

The last time I was truly excited because of a game announcement was the reveal trailer for DMC5. As far as I remember there weren't any leaks about it (maybe some rumors that didn't have much backing to them), so getting a big reveal trailer with in engine cinematics and a bit of gameplay got me super excited.

The wait from DMC4 (DmC was alright) fed into the hype for me too. And the game lived up to expectations too so overall it was exactly what I wanted out of the reveal and execution of a game.

I kind of agree OP, and age may be part of it, but i also think your excitement about the hobby can come and go in cycles. I was only sporadically following games from 2008-2012, then I played Hotline Miami and I was all in again. Then like you I kind of started losing interest after 2017…. I still play games when I can but haven't gotten truly hyped. Not sure if it's cos I got busy or nothing all that exciting is being developed.

Anyway, it gives me more time for other hobbies and to clear my backlog.

Everyone is going nuts for GOW.

Also Starfield. Wait for release date to be closer.

If anything I think these two are getting too much hype and will definitely underwhelm.

Cyberpunk and Elden ring come to mind as most recent, and when botw 2 full trailer finally drops it'll be hype too. Even kh4 was hype.

RE4R announcement hyped me like crazy even though we all knew it was coming and so did the max payne remakes (i still can't believe it's happening, can't wait to see some gameplay). speaking of remedy, alan wake 2 announcement was also hype but the main thing i'm waiting for is for embracer to do something with the deus ex IP. don't care if it's a sequel to the jensen games or a remake of the first one i'm gonna do a backflip as soon as it happens. also persona 6 and gta 6 annoucnements are going to be hype as fuck.

Maybe we're just getting old.

Honestly though the only thing that could get my hype levels critical at this point would be a 3rd person open world Jurassic Park game or something of that nature.

Oh, and Bloodborne II.

Elden Ring blew up. GoW is going to blow up. Even Stray, a little AA cat game, managed to capture the attention of fickle gamers for a short time. Spider-man 2, Wolverine, BotW 2, Starfield, etc, etc, etc. It's fine if people aren't finding something they personally are excited for, but gaming as a whole has a LOT of hype shit going on.
