It feels like it's been Years since the last truly exciting game announcement

Cyberpunk 2077 was indeed my last hyped game.
Lots of indies and AA games have made me say "Neat". But I would not call it a Hyped "Neat".

There aren't many cool game announcements sure, but for me the Dragon's Dogma 2 one is enough to keep me hyped as fuck.

Personally I think there were some that weren't THAT long ago, but I'll agree that they're most certainly scarce the days. It's feeling like 1-2 a year, if your lucky, lol. Even then the hype for said titles will vary. :(

I'm incredibly hyped for Modern Warfare 2, because I know it's a game I'm actually going to play. I get hyped for SP Games as well but I have to admit they usually just collect dust. I just don't care as much anymore I suppose.

Half-Life Alyx announcement hyped me like crazy, and that was at a time I didn't even like Half-Life and had no hopes of having the hardware to play it.

I gobbled up a complete playthrough on YouTube and pictured myself playing it, imitating the hand motions needed for the Gravity Gloves and stuff. Fast forward to last month I finally got a Quest 2 and a decent PC and it was all I imagined and more.

That game could have no combat at all and just be about scavenging for items and pulling them with the gloves and still be one of the best games of the decade. It never gets old.

You're probably just too jaded to get excited over game announcements, because there has been plenty of exciting announcements and releases in the last few years... So yeah, definitely the case of a you problem.

well i was hoping for some hype announcements from Nintendo this 'E3' (probably on September) but im happy as long as Bayonetta 3 comes out soon. 💜

Also these are good times for Final Fantasy fans

Soon the cross gen period will be gone and Sony will reveal the next gen titles they are making. Xbox will also use all the studio they now have and at least one of those games( starfield, the bethesda indiana jones, whatever the doom team is doing...) will be awesome.

GTA 6 is coming too. So in the meantime I have Tlou remake god of war, Resident evil 4 remake and indies like the plucky spire to wait.

But yes without E3 and with Sony doing his own thing and the disruptions caused by covid the hype moments are weaker than in the ps4 era. Hope this will change soon.
They have been saying the cross gen period is about to be over for around 2 years now.

Confused Gary Coleman GIF

(I believe these were all revealed after the BOTW reveal)

Alan Wake 2
Bayonetta 3
BOTW 2 (did OP not even know this was happening?)
Death Stranding
Elden Ring
Final Fantasy XVI and VII Remake Parts 1 and 2
Fire Emblem 3 Houses
Genshin Impact
Ghost of Tsushima
God of War 2018 and Ragnarok
Hogwarts Legacy
Horizon FW
Last of Us Part 2
Luigi's Mansion 3
Metroid Dread
Monster Hunter World
No More Heroes 3
Resident Evil 7, 8, Remake 2-4
River City Girls 2
Sekiro
Shin Megami Tensei 5
Spider-man 2018, Miles, and 2
Star Wars Jedi FO 1 and 2, KOTOR remake
Streets of Rage 4
Wolverine
Xenoblade 3
Yakuza 7

I mean, was I screaming at the top of my lungs on any of these when announced? No, but I still felt various levels of hype. Can't be massively hyped often, that shit would get exhausting.

You were hyped for Bloodborne but not Elden Ring?
bloodborne was being developed while dark souls was still fresh, novel, and relatively unknown.

elden ring came out 7 years after bloodborne... and during that time, we got dark souls 3 and sekiro.

love me some souls games, but eh it doesnt have allure of the early titles anymore.

If you are only looking at AAA companies, then it's normal to feel disappointed, as most are just making soulless crap to be vessels for micro-transactions, NFTs and the like.
But in the AA space and indie companies, there are a lot of great stuff. Lots of innovation in gameplay and design.
This take is so fucking tired

You guys can repeat it as much as you want, but indies typically suck dick

AAA games are nearly always better, and liking indies doesn't make you any more of a gaming enthusiast than the next guy

Trying to be a hipster by playing unpopular games is a shitty look

This gen still hasn't even started two years in, hopefully 2023 is when the anticipated games finally release or are revealed. It's been a slower gen so far than ast gen. At least there was Knack, Ryse, and Dead Rising.

Everything is just too fucking bland and soulless
I'm going to agree with some of the comments here and say the problems likely just you, so you just sound like you're jaded yourself as opposed to anything being wrong with those games, I usually worry about these type of comments the moment I hear something like it doesn't have "charm" or a "soul" or some stupid ass immeasurable thing where there's no unit of measurement or cannot be actually objectively measured...

What are you going to tell a developer? Hire the charm guy? Hire the guy that adds the soul to the game? Is there a soul development portion of a team that we don't know about? This sounds like some Nostalgia stuff where it's like someone has some emotional attachment to some game and then starts fucking asking for other games to do something that's literally impossible for them to do based on their own personal experience

So working in concept art and art Direction I have to work on quantifying something I cannot simply apply my emotion to what I felt about a piece of work I need to actually dissect that work to factually figure out what's going on there to create something I can't just run off of "soulless"

The best way of describing it is if someone hired you to do a job and one of their damn bullet points said "charm" and or a "soul" you telling me you're going to be able to apply this to a piece of work? You would have to literally take that client aside in specifically ask them what the fuck they're talking about because this thing cannot be measured in its based on you it is not a thing in which we could just go to a person and he opens some barrel and whips out soul or charm lol

Goes to a legal charm dealer "sir I need at least one gram of the charm".
The problem is you. These announcements bored the shit out of me specifically. I was more excited for the Quake Remaster, which was announced the day it was released. This is because these things are subjective. What excites me doesn't necessarily excite you
^ This. Thread..

As far as I can tell, this is simply based on OP. I don't see anything in the industry to argue no one is excited for games or something as we are moving massive units to show someone is hype, someone is buying a game and no one is just spending money on shit they know they hate or something lol

Personally hype for Starfield, God Of War, RE4 remake, Dead Space Remake, Dragon Age 4, Little Devil Inside and a ton more.

I agree. But I don't think is your personal opinion.

The industry is changing a lot, there are fewer games

Its 100% a opinion.

Annnnnnd there is more games being made now then any other time in gaming, literally at no time in the history of this industry have we had this much games coming out.

So.....I don't see any evidence to support this and I'd love to see how anyone came to the conclusion less was coming out. The same number of developers wasn't even around for this to make sense lol

C CaptainSlayAHo Agreed. Don't get me wrong, I'm hype for Little Devil Inside, Stray and many more, but for ever 1 amazing indie, its like 4000 shit ones lol

Literally nothing wrong with enjoying indies, I enjoy them occasionally as well (about the same hit rate you mentioned lol)

It's the "holier than thou" attitude that people employ.... We've all seen it before lol

Everyone talking about aging, jadedness, and growing up is correct. Some people here have been slowly coming to that internal realization which is good and healthy overall. However...

Leaks have ruined video game announcements.

This also very, very correct and has had a big impact on the fun and hype of announcements. Too many twitter leakers are chasing internet clout and it becomes a double edged sword because sites like this one keep posting all of it like breaking news.

I tend to appreciate genuine surprises in this day and age, and the last one to seriously have a big impact on me was that Matrix Demo.

The-Matrix-Awakens-An-Unreal-Engine-5-Experience-1.gif

I haven't felt this way experiencing something since Star Wars 1313/Watch Dogs 1 E3 showings and it excites me to see which developer manages to be the first one at the finish line at this level of graphical fidelity.

You were hyped for Bloodborne but not Elden Ring?

I think the problem is you. Honestly there are so many 'video games suck now' threads on here all the time. They're always still good, the problem is that people are just sad and cynical.
So true. ER delivered on every single aspect, absolute masterclass and yes I'll say it, it's better than blood borne (which I love too and was my favorite in the series until ER).

Then all that stupid close 343i nonsense. I mean, do people realize 343i made that game Fucking sing on every Xbox device since the OG fat vcr Xbone? One S/One X/series S/X, PC. The game looks and plays great. Great campaign, fun multiplayer. Again, I'm looking at the work and magic they had to pull off to get the game to run on an xbox one. If anything that is what held Halo back somewhat. Sony is just as complicit on their BS. "We believe in generations" lmfao. Remakes and remasters. We all understand the global pandemic, and it's impact on the supply chain so both companies get a pass because they literally have HAD to support old tired platforms much longer than they wanted too.

Spaceman gets it. People are fucking cynical and blabber all over the internet with their bullshit. Games are still great, and I love both my new consoles and am eagerly waiting some real current gen stuff. As it is the new consoles are being used to up res and add more frames to last gen games (mostly). The new chips are capable of more than that and the standard SSD's have been an incredible upgrade to the gaming experience. If you aren't enjoying anything gaming related maybe it's time to move away from your display and so something else.

Elden Ring blew up. GoW is going to blow up. Even Stray, a little AA cat game, managed to capture the attention of fickle gamers for a short time. Spider-man 2, Wolverine, BotW 2, Starfield, etc, etc, etc. It's fine if people aren't finding something they personally are excited for, but gaming as a whole has a LOT of hype shit going on.
Personally really looking forward to Spider-Man 2, Starfield, and Star Wars Survivor. (Secretly pray every day for a new SOCOM). And add GoW:R to that list.

I just wanna see those Sony studios cuz their game look great. I'm so sick of Jim Ryan and his shitty marketing team doing nothing for months.
Guerrilla Games is making a shooter since 2018 and nothing ? every GG game looks amazing and that's why I can't wait to see it.
Santa Monica other game. Wolverine. Insomniac multiplayer game. London Studio multiplayer game. Twisted Metal. Deviation Games know what their doing.
multiple Firesprite game. next Bluepoint game. someone said Haven studio game needs a lot of power so it must look good.
loved Days Gone so a new IP from them is very exiting to me

Wanted dead looks good. Made by some team ninja staff. I spoke with their dev and they said they are still set on this year.

Well, it takes so damn long for games to come out nowadays that a lot of the games that were announced five years ago still haven't come out yet, so the cycle will repeat itself eventually! Fret not.

Bloodborne was only exciting for its fanbase, which by videogames standards is small.

Starfield, Ragnarok and BOTW2 are pretty big.

Personally im most hyped for Starfield there has not really been a game like it.

Maybe look outside of specific Nintendo titles OP? Or just do this and miss out on a lot of excellent games that have been or going to release within the next few years..

BelovedChillyGlowworm-max-1mb.gif

Yeah I agree.

Though, when cross gen will end, I bet that will change. Then techniques like AI in real time and Raytracing will give us completely new gameplay experiences.

And someday, Nintendo might even break out of their radio silence too.

Imagine getting hyped for a remake or a remaster.
Hey I'm hyped when it comes to remakes of old games, can't wait for System Shock.

Remakes of games that came out recently and play basically the same... Yeah nah, in those cases I agree with you.

Calling things "Soulless" is a red flag OP, imo it implies an inability to distinguish between subjective experience amd objective reality. It's normal to be less excited for things as you get older, and it's normal to hold the experiences of your childhood and adolescence or even young adulthood up on a pedestal—this is called nostalgia. It doesn't mean the things coming out now are objectively less exciting or less inspired or whatever.

Personally, I'm wildly excited for Street Fighter 6 and whatever Tekken project they're teasing. The Street Fighter 6 reveal in particular was a big hype moment for me because I'd been hoping for awhile that they would be using the RE engine. Also, the zeitgeist around the Bridget reveal at Evo was unreal, reminded me of the crazy Smash Dojo days. It's never been a better time to be a fan of fighting games.

I was extremely hyped for Cyberpunk 2077 due to the fact that I played the tabletop rpg in my teens. Mostly to be able to move freely in a world that just existed in my mind for all these years. Loved Witcher 2 and 3 as well so the hype went up. Played it day one on my series X. Liked it but some narrative choices rubbed me the wrong way but all in all it was a good experience. Did I live up to the hype. No, but in the games defense, it was impossible too meet those expectations. That's the last time I got hyped for a game.

Sequel's REmakes and Remasters...

New IPs have mostly been AA games. Starfield's announcement was the last time I got hyped for anything really. Probably throw Death Stranding in there as well, cuz, Kojima. Even Elden Ring was less exciting for me and I absolutely LOVE Souls games. I've still been there, done that. I generally knew what I wasin for.

The thing with sequels, remasters and remakes are that they all to a different degree play on nostalgia. New IPs are the only thing I get really hype about nowadays because you're not sure what you're gonna get.

That's why right now I'm hyped for Ashes of Creation, coming out in 2030, and that's pretty much it. There's just not many things coming out that we haven't seen before in some form.

Well Hype is subjective, i was hyped as fuck for RE2 Remake, Doom 2016 and Eternal for example. Then there have been huge games since the timeframe you mentioned, RDR2, FF7R, GoW and Ragnarok, Spider Man, TLOU2, Sekiro, Elden Ring.

If you are talking about hype for games that EVERYONE is talking about regardless if you are peronally excited for them or not i think the last 2 that fill the checkbox were Cyberpunk and Elden Ring and maybe RE8 with Lady D memes or perhaps the Matrix Demo? That was insane.

There does seem to be a lack of ambitious and exciting AAA that are new IPs.

I have plenty of sequels I'm excited about GoW Ragnarok, Spider-Man 2, FFVII Rebirth, FFXVI and Baldur's Gate 3 being at the top of the list.

I remember lots of hype for lots of games after those you mentioned.

Red dead redemption 2, cyberpunk 2077, tlou 2, spiderman, gow, Starfield, Elden Ring and probably many more games I can't remember right now.

You're probably just too jaded to get excited over game announcements, because there has been plenty of exciting announcements and releases in the last few years... So yeah, definitely the case of a you problem.

I'm with him on it. The media hype machine around gaming is breaking things.

Every AAA Xbox game has launched into mediocrity. There's nothing generally exciting and new on PC that has a big lead to build hype around. Breath of the Wild got me to buy a launch day Switch and it gutted my expectations. Most of the JRPG stuff I look for gets praised by lunatics and weeaboos as 10/10 masterpieces, and they are totally fucked in the head, since most of the games are bad, or barely good. None of the hyped up stuff is sticking the landing, games are delayed due to Covid. There's still no reason in my mind to buy a PS5 or Xbox Series X.

The point I'm at with all of it is wanting to see acquisitions happen, just to have big money behind smaller studios. The excitement is in the speculation. Hearing weeaboos lose their shit and fear monger about whichever evil corporate empire makes moves and threatens to smite the bloated publishers and redundant marketing jobs is just icing on the cake.

The sad part about all of this, the game companies chasing trends that are done to death in one way or another, is that they will move on to something new; and we're soon going to see all the classic developer talent we all hope to see bring back the "good old days" start punching out on their lifespan's time clock.

I was stolked when these games got announced.
Resident Evil 2 Remake. RE8. Sekiro, RDR2, Demon Souls. God of War Ragnarok. BOTW2. Front Mission Remake. FF7 remake. Elden Ring. Triangle Strategy.
And probably the most I got hyped last few years was the FF16 trailer.

Ill be super hyped when Pikmin 4 and Final Fantasy Tactics is shown lol

I got pretty excited when I found out that GOW then Spiderman were coming to PC. To a lesser extend HZD which turned out to be one of the most beautiful games I've ever played (OLED HDR). Also, I was extremely excited for RDR2 and it lived up to the hype. MCC got me a bit excited too and Halo back on PC but it was a few years too late. I was very excited for Cyber Punk but am still waiting for it to be fixed or cheaper.

Another Witcher would be crazy or even a Witcher 1-2 remake and 3 remaster.

The only think I find lacking in the industry is SP focused story driven action FPS games like Half Life/Bioshock. Doom and Wolfenstein aren't enough and Doom's story is good but not great.

My last hyped game was Doom Eternal.

I used to follow EVERY BIT of news regarding it, including a well known Doom YouTuber known as Midnight.

The only games which I am dying to play next are God of War Ragnarok and Resident Evil 4 Remake. However I fear they're going to butcher the latter with yet another unkillable stalker enemy.

Callisto Project looks good too.

I think gaming quality has declined tbh. Every fucking game tries to imitate each other. Hope to God that Ragnarok isn't just an Elden Rings clone. They should continue from where the original game left off.

Educate me on how to legally play an older, legendary rare game like Panzer Dragoon Saga for under 70 dollars.

Endorsement of public domain reforms and enforcement on abandonware would cost you nothing. Free emulators exist to run obtained copies of the game on modern computers. Reproduction copies are easy to obtain and carry the burden of the bullshit "legal risk" around the game. Saturn hardware needs only to use cheap cartridges to boot up imports and repros.

If you are talking industry wide then most people are excited for a the new Cod, the new FIFA (or whatever they are planning to call the series now) and whatever being announce for Fortnite.

As for me personally, what would get me really excited is a new Persona or a new GTA.
