It really is a dick thing to do, not to mention cultish and childish to boot.
It's also a lie

The ex-staff are requiring GAFers to post their account suicides in order to join the successor forums, which really speaks volumes about the real reason they left.
I thought those were coming back at some point?
The members aren't. Go over to gaming community as we speak and see entire community OTs trying to leave for discord or other options.
Except diversity is not the focus when you arbitrarily nuke all manner of minority community OTs.
That does sound like something they would require to do.They also require you to eat a MAGA hat and carve Hillary into your flesh. Don't be so gullible.
I forgot there will never be mods ever again for all eternity. And there was surely never a standard that Gaf moderation met for shutting down bs quick fast. Be serious. What Gaf mods?
I don't expect this forum to ever be the same after this, but I also think things will calm down and we'll get folks back, but it'll take time. People have to get it off their chest and I can understand that. Luckily, the gaming communities I'm part of still seem to be functioning properly.
I never visited the off topic forums, you can do what you like there I don't care, I'm here mostly for gaming related discussions, as a privileged male of color I am fine with just talking about the Gameplay or Story and not how men or women are represented in games.
That does sound like something they would require to do.
No they're gone for good. Any new OT will be pop culture focused and political and social discussion will not be allowed.
Really? Is there a statement of the site owner about what you just said? I think there is hope for a neogaf.com that values the good old times of being mainly a gaming forum where people can freely talk about the best hobby on this planet![]()
The future of NeoGAF will be a return to what many of us have come here for, a place where we can gather together and enjoy our shared hobby of video games. For a short time, Off-Topic Discussion and Off-Topic Community will be closed so that we can rediscover that. We'll be starting with a clean slate when they come back. However, the focus will be on the many other hobbies we may have like TV, movies, anime, writing, music, etc. Political and social discourse will not be allowed in the new Off-Topic. Those types of discussions greatly added to the harsh and unwelcoming atmosphere of Off-Topic, which pushed many users away. For those worried: OT has not been deleted, and important threads will be archived for recovery once it's open again.
Perhaps but I've already seen many great communities jump ship in no time flat.
So then don't claim diversity is apart of this forum change. It's not and limiting it because of what the owner did comes off as the opposite of that.

Yeah receipts need to be seen for that, there is definitely something going on but it smacks more of a concerted 4chan thing than the instruction of anyone who used to mod gaf. Its meant to demoralize.

is this for real?
is this for real?
Lots of folks left. I say let thing settle down and see where the cards land. Some communities are still going...some probably aren't. If they didn't do some account suicide, then they have the option to come back if they want. Maybe they will...maybe they won't. None of us know how it's all gonna play out.
Was diversity ever part of this? I didn't know that was a thing....
Mods were regular gaffer like you and me who understood the rules and took on the role and the responsibilities that came with keeping the levels of bs other sites have to deal with to an absolute minimum. If you and me and others are still here I don't see why the next generation of mods doesn't continue that trend. The point is you can't compare modding in the past to what it will be when they all left

We don't know how this will play out? The owner nuked half the website over his own problems, scared off most of the mods and totally reworked the rules and site to better suit his needs which caused a massive exodus of users. I think we are already aware of how this turned out.
I just don't get the end game here. A shit ton of long time regulars suicide there accounts to go...ummmm...scatter off to the ends of the net? And even then, from what I gather, is that no one can even agree on what the new meeting point should be. Yes I get that it's due to recent events, but still you'd think it'd be slightly more organized then posting porn and saying fuck off.
But that's just me >![]()

Lol
Ok glad to hear it's bullshit
But no community OTs going forward that can't be right either?
To many people rely on those
Or there may be some truth in his comments about OT being a nightmare to mod well for some of the more political threads and putting them on hiatus for now makes sense? And if the mod staff left because of fears for them being harrassed online that doesnt mean they all left due to their feelings towards Evilore on this specific issue.
Its an impossible thing to judge from the outside, yet people are taking very polarised views just like they do in threads about sensitive subjects. Personally Id like to wait for things to settle
It's still in transition. In a few months time maybe GAF will be gone, maybe it will be back almost to how it was and this will have all blown over, maybe the new forums will be a success, maybe they will wither away. Probably best not to get carried away with all the drama.
he hasn't nuked it, it's just not accessible.

They're posting porn and saying fuck off while also looking to places like GAF community discord channels.
It's like some people never flipped the bird at someone they really disliked as they peaced out. That's what the account suicides and the like amount to.
I fail to see on what scenario this forum will be able to go back to the way it was.
My point still stands
Could go back to the gaming age era. At least I hope so.I fail to see on what scenario this forum will be able to go back to the way it was.
I've never done that, and never understood why folks would. It accomplishes nothing, burns bridges, and can't be taken back later.

Its called trying to get a grip of something that spiralled out of control. I would do the same thing for the short term too.

That's a good thing IMO. Why would any sane person want it to go back to the way it was?

I think you're reading things to simply. Off topic won't be for politics and social issues. That is all thats been revealed. I say stay tuned before you just give i to the notion that gaf will lose those aspects.Mods before were not having to regulate "no politics or social issues", which bleeds into gaming, sports, wrestling, movies, television, etc. This is Pandora's Box that even prior mods didn't have to deal with, things will not be the same
Actually there is a honey pot version that people are mistakenly going to as well. Most are organizing behind one new place
I mentioned this in another thread, but when there is an air of us vs. them people tend to gravitate towards the extremes that identify that group, so they feel part of something.
When Gamergate emerged not only did people within gamergate become more extreme, but people who opposed them (sensible people) often moved towards the extreme opposite. I feel like that was the problem with neogaf. The opinions were basically always correct, but everything was extreme, like we were at war.
Now resetERA is positioning themselves vs NeoGAF I genuinely don't know what's going to happen. We're not extreme opposites. Is it going to be outspoken vs. fence sitters? Will they get bored of us and go back to their war against GG?
Either way I hope that focusing away of videogames moves away from all that tribalism.
It isn't, from the State of Neogaf sticky, second post.

To be quite honest, I'm not sad to see some of those guys go. We've lost some great contributors, but we've also shed some of the biggest egos on this site.
I'm sure they will be a little fractured but whole
