No they're gone for good. Any new OT will be pop culture focused and political and social discussion will not be allowed.
I don't expect this forum to ever be the same after this, but I also think things will calm down and we'll get folks back, but it'll take time. People have to get it off their chest and I can understand that. Luckily, the gaming communities I'm part of still seem to be functioning properly.
I never visited the off topic forums, you can do what you like there I don't care, I'm here mostly for gaming related discussions, as a privileged male of color I am fine with just talking about the Gameplay or Story and not how men or women are represented in games.

Lots of folks left. I say let thing settle down and see where the cards land. Some communities are still going...some probably aren't. If they didn't do some account suicide, then they have the option to come back if they want. Maybe they will...maybe they won't. None of us know how it's all gonna play out.
Was diversity ever part of this? I didn't know that was a thing....

We don't know how this will play out? The owner nuked half the website over his own problems, scared off most of the mods and totally reworked the rules and site to better suit his needs which caused a massive exodus of users. I think we are already aware of how this turned out.

Mods were regular gaffer like you and me who understood the rules and took on the role and the responsibilities that came with keeping the levels of bs other sites have to deal with to an absolute minimum. If you and me and others are still here I don't see why the next generation of mods doesn't continue that trend.

Mods before were not having to regulate "no politics or social issues", which bleeds into gaming, sports, wrestling, movies, television, etc. This is Pandora's Box that even prior mods didn't have to deal with, things will not be the same
I guess I don't look at it that way, but again who's to say what this will look like two weeks from now. It's all still fresh but wounds heal. Maybe folks come back, maybe they don't. I guess I just want to talk about games, so that's what I get out of this site. That seems to be continuing, so I'll be here.

And if the mod staff left because of fears for them being harrassed online that doesnt mean they all left due to their feelings towards Evilore on this specific issue.
Its an impossible thing to judge from the outside, yet people are taking very polarised views just like they do in threads about sensitive subjects. Personally Id like to wait for things to settle

It's still in transition. In a few months time maybe GAF will be gone, maybe it will be back almost to how it was and this will have all blown over, maybe the new forums will be a success, maybe they will wither away. Probably best not to get carried away with all the drama.

It's like some people never flipped the bird at someone they really disliked as they peaced out. That's what the account suicides amount to.

I've never done that, and never understood why folks would. It accomplishes nothing, burns bridges, and can't be taken back later.
It'll never be the way it was. But that doesn't mean that what it turns into can't still be a fun place to hang out.

So handling things as poorly as possible in the short term somehow bodes well for the long term?
I mentioned this in another thread, but when there is an air of us vs. them people tend to gravitate towards the extremes that identify that group, so they feel part of something.
When Gamergate emerged not only did people within gamergate become more extreme, but people who opposed them (sensible people) often moved towards the extreme opposite. I feel like that was the problem with neogaf. The opinions were basically always correct, but everything was extreme, like we were at war.
Now resetERA is positioning themselves vs NeoGAF I genuinely don't know what's going to happen. We're not extreme opposites. Is it going to be outspoken vs. fence sitters? Will they get bored of us and go back to their war against GG?
Either way I hope that focusing away of videogames moves away from all that tribalism.
EDIT: Post I quoted is a lie. Which just shows how much tribalism there is that people on NeoGAF would make up a lie to make the e-gaffers look bad!

To be quite honest, I'm not sad to see some of those guys go. We've lost some great contributors, but we've also shed some of the biggest egos on this site.
I think you're reading things to simply. Off topic won't be for politics and social issues. That is all thats been revealed. I say stay tuned before you just give i to the notion that gaf will lose those aspects.
Actually there is a honey pot version that people are mistakenly going to as well.

I agree, it definitely is a case of extremities. People couldnt accept another/different point of view without labelling the other. Either you were a GG/Nazi or a SJW, no shades of grey. Its perfectly normal to disagree with someone and that simply be the case but here it became normal to insinuate some hidden agenda solely because you couldnt accept another persons opinion. Hopefully going forward we can just discuss things in a civil manner without there always having to be some ulterior motive to absolutely everything.
