kind of feel of the metallica news wagon since death magnetic.

Anway.... they have done alot of awesome stuff this week with those 30th celebration shows.

Whats up with the unreleased Death Magnetic songs all of a sudden?

I guess after LuLu they want to show some awesome stuff ASAP but is "beyond magnetic" a thing thats getting released that I can buy? where are they releasing these songs? theres nothing on there site.
Beyond Magnetic is a four-track EP that has thus far been released only to clubbers at the rate of one track per anniversary show.

Basically Metallica wanted to play some new stuff at their XXX shows so they dug these out, then the Club sent the 2008 rough mixes (NOT the live versions, those'll be on livemetallica.com later) to members. Wouldn't be surprised at all if it gets a more traditional release, but think the current way they handled was pretty awesome. Club hasn't really done anything like this before. Kind of their way to loop those of us that didn't win tix to the shows in.

Is it worth it? What kind of things do you guys get? Aside from 30 year tickets and the special songs recently?

I was a member for a couple of years. The best part about it is the early access to tickets, with early entry and the chance at a meet and greet with the band at every show. The early entry all but guarantees your on the rail if you want to be with the center stage Metallica tends to use. MetClub members also get access to stuff that other stores don't. Different limited edition merch, foreign dvds and blu-rays, fan cans, ect. It's one of the better fan clubs out there IMO.

Sorry if posted already but this is some pretty sweet footage of them playing with Dave Mustaine. Phantom Lord and Jump in the Fire.
Holy shit that was awesome. Though I would have preferred No Remorse over Phantom Lord and it sounded like Mustaine's guitar wasn't blasting during Jump in the Fire. :/ But what I did hear was fucking awesome.

djsandman basically nails it, as to whether it's worth it that really depends on you. How big of a Metallica fan are you? They've been my favorite band since the 3rd grade, so when I got that first credit card I signed right on up and never looked back! A slightly more fleshed-out list of club benefits:

So What! Magazine: This is Metallica's official magazine, published quarterly. It's surprisingly well-written and insightful, mostly thanks to EIC Steffan Chirazi. Well worth a read for fans, issues often have 20+ page interviews with band members, the entire band, album producers, all sorts of people.

Welcome Package: This is what you get when you join the club and each time you renew. It has a letter from one of the 4 members of the band (a different member writes the letter each year), a "signed" photo, and a Metclub T-Shirt, often designed by a band member. Sometimes the shirt is cool, sometimes it's cheesy, but it's always interesting and a good way to spot clubbers at shows!

Those are the main things you're guaranteed. Other benefits include discounts on merchandise, access to club-only events (though this is done via an online lottery; I've never won backstages passes in 10+ years of entering), access to club-only merch (the 6 Fan Cans are legendary; they're also club-only), tons of content on Metallica.com, of late things like Beyond Magnetic, etc.

The club is great, the people that work for it are amazingly nice, and as I said above it's worth the $50/yr if you're really into the band.

Beyond Magnetic now available on US iTunes

This week, we’re releasing those four tracks through iTunes exclusively in North America and on iTunes and additional digital retailers in other parts of the world as the Beyond Magnetic EP. All four studio versions of these songs were sent to Met Club members for free immediately following their live debut on stage at the Fillmore and tomorrow they will be available to everyone via the magic of digital downloading. They are the rough mixes, unfinished to their original degree of mixing from March of 2008, and those of you with very keen senses of sound might recognize bits and pieces from the ‘Mission Metallica’ videos posted in the summer of 2008.

Is next year going to be an album recording year, or are they just going to tour Europe some more? I think they've put DM through it's paces on tour.

I'm being tortured with this as we speak. My uterus is shriveling and I feel like barfing.

Edit: It's mostly the lyrics. They're hideous. Like... monkey tore the face off a woman hideous. And then I'd still take the monkey.

I've done nothing with my life except eat and fap
Just wait for the Guitar Hero release ;p

But yeah, I wanna know this too. I doubt it tho since Lars has said the next album would be digital only, so I'm assuming this is their move to that domain.

I have nothing against being digital only I just don't perceive mp3s as music.

Also bought, thanks for the link! By the way East Coast Metallica fans... Lars says some pretttty interesting things at the end of XXX 4's video: http://www.metallica.com/tour/dec-10-2011-san-francisco.asp

For those that don't want to sit through 45 minutes of awesome, they're planning an event for the end of June that should be similar to what they did in SF! I kind of got the vibe that they were going to announce a convention or something, luckily we don't have long to wait as they're supposed to announce whatever it is in the coming weeks.

Yep!

Happy New Year!!! As you know, we generally make it a policy not to comment on gossip or rumors, but we also pride ourselves on being first with 'Tallica news. So, with that said, the more astute of you may have noticed a couple of mentions in trade publications, and most recently in the new issue of Rolling Stone, that a Metallica 3D movie is in the works. We're here to tell you that, yes, there is indeed a 3D project in the very early stages of production! We wish we could tell you more right now, but we don't have all the finer points nailed down just yet. What we can tell you is that we are planning on being in a theatre near you sometime in 2013 and as you hear us say ever so often, this will be the space for all the details as we finalize them.

Welcome to 2012... we're pretty psyched about the year ahead!

Pretty neat! The Big 4 theater experience was a good time, hope this is just as fun.

I wish they would stop touring and doing retarded shit like LuLu so they could release an album. That way I could buy it and bitch about how it isn't as great as Master of Puppets or how the production is screwed up or how Lars sucks as a drummer or how Kirk is a lazy guitar player...

Seriously, new album plz.

On my local rock station yesterday I heard them mention Metallica's writing new stuff and they already have like 7 or 8 songs written. So they're getting there.

Yeah. They said if DM was the natural successor to Justice, the new one will be the natural successor to Black.

*insert Lars cant play anymore quote*.

Fuck buying a Vita at launch, I'm going to Metallifest:

http://www.orionmusicandmore.com/index.php

Yes, I know it's Orion Music and More, I'm calling it Metallifest damnit.

Time to re-new that Met Club membership.

I definitely wanna go! I might even buy a membership just to get the tickets.

Anyone know if you can buy more than one metclub ticket?

The only thing that sucks is that I doubt any of my friends will wanna go.

You can buy up to four MetClub tickets, but you can only use your code to buy them once so you have to know if your friend is going when you purchase.

Sadly, aside from Beyond Magnetic, this is one of the best things they have done in the past two years. Jame's voice sounds damn awesome too.
