After creating a thread a while back asking about the largest kick-ass CRT monitors around, the Sony GDM-FW900 was mentioned as killing pretty much killing every other CRT on the market. I went off to do some research about the monitor since then and I must say, based on specs and pictures, the monitor seems pretty damn impressive. Though I found a lot of info on the monitor, that info itself opened up some puzzling questions that I'm trying to figure out.

1)When this monitor first came out, it was in the thousands then dropped in price drastically in a short period of time. What was the cause of this?

2)Apparently this monitor is rare. Pretty much the only place to buy it is eBay and if not on eBay, you'll still be buying it in used or refurbished condition because as far as I can tell, it's been discontinued by Sony. If it's such a great of a monitor, why did they discontinue it?

3)Also, I haven't been able to find any other monitors from Sony in this line. If they discontinued this one, surely they must have replaced it with a successor. If that's the case, what is the GDM-FW900's successor?

I'm seriously considering on replacing my NEC FE991SB with one of these if I can get my hands on one for the right price in the right condition. Every one I see for sale seems to be scuffed to hell like it's been hit with hockey pucks. :D

I'm pretty sure the acronym 'LCD' answers all 3 of your questions :)

Bah. That sounds reason reasonable. It must of been released when LCDs started taking off. I guess not everyone is some pixel-absorbed gaming nut trying to seek out the perfect screen. :lol
