Sure they can and that's what a few of those 10 live service games will be, they want a their own COD like games to bring in the moneySony cant make those games
Sony lets its teams make what they wantWe’ll see. I feel that if these live service games perform really well, Sony will slowly give them much more priority over single games much like the way they pushed Japanese games on the backburner because of the success of Western games.

What Japanese games did they put on the backburner?

They better keep my Uncharteds, Spider-mans and Ghost of Tsushimas, etc though
Their focus is primarily on big budget Western games now. Games like Gravity Rush, Ico, Knack, Siren, Shaow of the Colossus, Legend of Dragoon, Bloodborne(?), Ape Escape, etc have seemingly taken a backseat. Most of their games now are the big budget, cinematic Western style games.Sony lets its teams make what they want

You're talking like this is an either or scenario. Fortnite exists with Uncharted 4. They will have their live service games and SP. We already know at least one of their live service games has SPThat
or This one
These companies know how extract money from their audience. It will be hard for Sony to be like them, without giving up, their core business. Its the classical “You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain.”
Sony userbase is SP people. GAAS is not their type of games, considering the bashing xbox got, because of that label. You're talking like this is an either or scenario. By doing GAAS, Sony would take a hit on their reputation, if some of those game fail, or it gets a disastrous launch.
People call Bethesda shit studio, after fo76.
Again, those games are from 3rd party. We are talking Sony here. They released SP games only, with MP attached to it.PlayStation made 2.1 billion from microtransactions in 2021. Which is more than digital + physical game sales combined.
Fortnite earned almost half (46%) its profits from PS4 players. The second highest earning platform was XBox One at 27%. PC, Switch, and phone was all lower.
Sonys userbase is multiplayer people. It's not 2018 anymore.

This gen, they will release GAAS by themselves.
Fortnite is from epic, not Sony.
People play COD and Fortnite on PS consoles already and PS has had games that haven't reviewed well before like Destruction Allstars. That might work out in their favor though.PS4 players don't care. The base leans multiplayer now.
Are you forgetting Destruction Allstars? It was one Sony attempt at Gaas and it didn't make much money but guess what, people are still hyped for Sifu, Horizon Forbidden West, God of War Ragnarok, etcAgain, those games are from 3rd party. Now we are talking.Live service done right would be something like Ghost of Tsushima Legends with updates

I am not forgetting that game. It had potential, but it couldn't live with that potential sadly. Are you forgetting Destruction Allstars? It was one Sony attempt at Gaas and it didn't make much money but guess what, people are still hyped for Sifu, Horizon Forbidden West, God of War Ragnarok, etc
Sony userbase aka, the SP guys. Not the console users. You said ‘Sony’s userbase’. What’s first and third party got to do with that? Don’t move goalposts.
A huge portion of their user base plays the likes of FIFA, Apex, Warzone and Fortnite.
1 successful GaaS will make more than almost any game the past decade...its the best risk vs reward. How many dead GaaS games does it take until they finally realize it's a shitty genre that nobody really wants.

The google traduction is good, the article mention a soon to be officialised Cerny’s collab, then right after there is the quote about working with the best in their field at Sony (not by Jade but by Paola jouyaux a co founder), which is pretty self explanatory. Raymond may have confirmed Cerny’s help off record because there will be a big reveal at the next state of play or something…Yeah that's what I'm talking about though.
Maybe someone who speaks French can explain it but the Google translate doesn't really say they are definitely working with Cerny:
Not saying he absolutely wouldn't be involved but seems like a bit of a leap to take her quote and say he is.
You're totally wrong, somewhere betwen 80-90% of the revenue generated from gaming is from GaaS games, and even a higher percentage of players play this type of games. This is why Sony, MS, Sega or other big publishers increased their bet on GaaS.How many dead GaaS games does it take until they finally realize it's a shitty genre that nobody really wants.
Tencent laughs while looking at their wallets. How many dead GaaS games does it take until they finally realize it's a shitty genre that nobody really wants.
Nah that Soviet online game - tomorrow children!Knack Online confirmed.
Wasn't there some talk of resurrecting it?Nah that Soviet online game - tomorrow children!
Yep that indie game with more development time and new things would be amazing! Maybe Japan studio or whatever it’s called now is working on it again I have no idea.Wasn't there some talk of resurrecting it?
Personally, I wouldn't mind - the premise was so absurd that I found it funny and the art style was great. Just that the core gameplay/progression definitely needed more work. With more time and effort it could be fun.
Most of them won't. They know that and try to get at least one or two hits. The rest will be prestige AAA SP games that bring guaranteed returns. We’ll see. I feel that if these live service games perform really well, Sony will slowly give them much more priority over single games much like the way they pushed Japanese games on the backburner because of the success of Western games.
And then people will whine that all their games are single player AAA third person games. I mean, not me, I love those games...But there still plenty of studios working on “traditional” games. Really wish Sony would March to the beat of their own drum like Nintendo. They’re more than capable of being successful and profitable without chasing trends.
There is no market (even with PC + mobile) for so many GAAS. Single player games are profitable because people play, finish and go to play other games. GAAS need get stable numbers on long time, and that is not possible with several GAAS from every video game company. So yes, I bet of 10 GAAS games Sony will release, 1 or 2 maybe will be successful the rest will fail.Hopefully its gonna fail spectacularly so sony is gonna re-think their priorities.
they closed every japanese studio they had
This. Why would anybody be upset at this? If the studio was created with the idea of making evolving ever expanded social games, then that's what they should be making.
And Playstation as a brand should be associated with all types of gaming experiences.
Inclusive and caring social platform lol, can’t wait to see how this turns out.
blah blah... when I hear these words or something like """redefining the genre""", "pushing the boundaries" "pushing the envelop" I'm instantly turned off.“Our ambition will be to push the technical capabilities of the console further,”
nah, there's already too much self-expression going on online. I don't want to see the next level. I'd love to take a step back, though. We also don't ANOTHER """social""" platform..."it is about taking that self-expression and remix concept to the next level."
Then why all of the concern over losing COD?Sony userbase is SP people. GAAS is not their type of games,
Because people have the notion that, MS cant make that much money without Sony. Then why all of the concern over losing COD?
