Didn't think Petra was possibly dead but it was a neat scene.

I have to admit I'm bored by the Sin Rostro reveal; the reveal itself was solidly done but Rose is too obvious a choice as a villain she was was protesting way too much about Emilio being Sin Rostro and she's already acted explicitly terribly in previous episodes. The only odd thing IIRC is her going to to mental institution to get information about Emilio if she didn't really suspect him as being Sin Rostro. I dunno, I just find the character annoying (which I understand she's supposed to be). I hope she's not a villain beyond this season. I think she's a guest star though.

Loved the ep regardless, the Rogelio stuff was way better than I'd anticipated--and, that gives me hope that the Sin Rostro stuff will be, too.

This fucking show. WOW

With that Petra scene, my jaw was on the floor and my mind asking, The CW wouldn't allow that shot to be that slow and painful, right?

And the Sin Rostro reveal got me good until Luisa's letter but what happened at the end...OMFG. Mad Genius.

Yeah, I knew it had to be fake because something like that wouldn't air on CW. :p Still, even fake faking it is pretty ballsy I think.

And I didn't expect the end at all. :O I never paid much attention to Rose at all.

Ugh, I'm watching this, The 100, and HTGAWM these days and this just eclipses them so much. Let me change my avatar to stop drawing attention to the fact that Madonna's album Rebel Heart leaked.

Caught up, holy trope aversion. I wasn't the only one who expected that to be a real knife, right?

And Jane when she runs into Petra on the stairs. First the OMG WTF and then she feels the pain and goes to talk to her.

Rose must have a degree in time management. Playing Emilio's wife, having an affair with her stepmother AND being a crime lord ? I know:
twin sisters, one good one evil

*clears throat* (potential call for future season)
She would run the whole thing from the hotel anyway. Being married isn't hard if you're not expected to work. And everything else is already there.

But 'she' is probably a he. The 'plastic' surgeon pointed out Michael's pecks for a reason, I would think. And while I don't want to insert heteronormativity to make things "normal", the affair and her freaking out over Emilio wanting to go somewhere else would probably make sense that way. Besides, what's a telenovella without an Einhorn?

That whole Petra thing was great, as well as the commentary.

Where's everyone tonight?! Watching Better Call Saul? JtV has been more dramatic than comedic over the part few episodes (no funny Jane faces :| ) by still my face show on TV

Well, Better Call Saul is in an hour.

The "Graduation" scene was really touching

WHAT! @ the ending

Hmm, I wasn't quite feeling this week's episode. Jane's graduation was the only thing that really grabbed me.

Some complaints:

Xiomara is waaaay too magnetic and energetic to be relegated to the role of Rogelio's sounding board/shoulder to cry on/semi-Platonic bedfellow, but I feel the writers don't know what to do with her.

And Petra without her mommy dearest is like Cheech without Chong (on a related note, loved that random cameo!)

And if Rafael really was
Zaz's killer
, then he has an even better poker face than Rose.

But the thing that really stuck out was some rather unpolished editing. Cuts from scene to scene had this sense of really awkward timing, like the show didn't have enough time to soften out the edges.

I guess I have to accept that even on a show like this, some "place-setting" is necessary before the next big revelation :p

Unless I'm really confused,
Rafe can't be Zaz's killer, because Zaz was revealed at the end of the episode to still be alive...?

I'm 99% sure that wasn't
Zaz, but Zaz's twin brother
referenced in episode 3 or 4, who was the initial hint for Rafael that Petra was cheating on him.

Unless that WAS
Zaz
and Rafael was in on Petra's cheating the whole time. Which would just be weird.

That...is really confusing. Thank you for the clarification, though.

So at the end was the narrator saying "who killed Zaz?" then showing Rafe and Zaz's bro...as the answer to that question? Weird. I totally misunderstood that as the narrator saying "nobody, Zaz is still alive." With the twin thing though it seems Zaz is dead and Rafe and/or Zaz's bro did it. Weird...I really did not think they'd go any villain route with Rafe. I still am not sure they will, though.

Wait, so you think Rose is actually a guy? Uhh, you would think Luisa would notice that over the course of the affair, unless you're suggesting Rose had a sex change at some point in which case I would argue that she is still a she.

Jane the Virigin is continuing to hold onto its post-Golden Globes ratings bump and now has put another notch in its belt: The acclaimed CW dramedy’s Monday night episode scored higher ratings than its lead-in The Originals for the first time.

Jane had 1.4 million viewers and a 0.6 rating among adults 18-49, and the vampire spin-off had 1.2 million and a 0.5 rating. Jane’s series premiere previously had more viewers than The Originals, but this is the first time Jane has also delivered more adults 18-49 (as well as adults 18-34) than its opening act. Plus, Jane matched its own demo series high in the process.
If the show can stabilize at 0.5 or so into the spring, it'll be a major victory. All the cretins over at TVBTN were predicting consistent 0.3's by now.

The Xiomara/Alba scene was very moving. I teared up a bit. Both actresses were superb. This has to be one of the best casts on television right now.

I love Petra being in charge. She's such an amazing antagonistic force.

Also, I'm really liking how the show juxtaposes huge telenovela-esque twists with everyday twists. Something like a murder or secret twin brother is played as being just as surprising as little life moments that might catch you off guard like falling out of love with someone or being suddenly asked to move in together.

Man, it didn't take Petra long to completely torpedo all the good will she had built up over the last few episodes. Granted, she's more fun being a massive thorn in Rafael's side but I was actually starting to like her for a while there.

That episode was sublime

perfect

flawless

I can't even describe the whirlwind of FEELINGS this episode put me through, holy crap, but I'll try my damndest

- Luisa's grand return gave the show such a dramatic/comedic injection right in the veins. It was smart to lock her up for so long, because it made it all the more hysterical when she came back just to destroy all the stability that seemed to be slowly forming
lol.gif

- Petra is back in pitch-perfect, bad bitch form. I couldn't have asked for a more perfect scene than the one where she barged into Raf's office. Someone hold me

- Rafael's subtle emotional breakdown was too real. Anyone who's ever lost a family member knows that the days that follow aren't characterized by the dramatic histrionics that seem to accompany the grieving process in films and television. Instead, it's exactly the routine, almost dream-like haze existence that the writers so perfectly nailed. It's rare to see that kind of nuanced, realistic portrayal of grief, especially on a show that exists on such a heightened plane of reality.

- As emotional as the episode was, I don't think I've laughed this much since...I can't remember a funnier hour of television actually. Luisa's interrupted escape from the mental institution, Luisa's sex scene(s) flashback...OK, Luisa's everything...the back of Rose's head tease, INTERGALACTIC TELENOVELA, Jane's imagined telenovela scenes (how amazing was the Rafael and Michael slapfight!?)...

By far the best episode (since the pilot at least), and there have already been a handful of A+ stunners in between, so that's ridiculously high praise

i need to lie down

Boo on the three week break!

Is this the best written and acted show on the CW? I think it is, especially compared to other shows I watch on the network granted that's might not be saying much.

Some amazing Jane and Petra faces this week. Gina keeps delivering those feels without even saying words. I need more gifs

My wife and I have been plowing through this. We just finished episode 9.

OH, HELL NO! You do NOT fuck with the grandmother. I can't imagine how hard that cliffhanger was when it first aired.

Finished episode 12. The narrator continues to be the best part.

"I don't know what to say. I am just as shocked as you."

Bridget Regan is hot, but damn is she flat as an actress. Just crazy eyes and trying to seem normal. She does the same shit in everything.

It just makes me think of the saying, "You don't stick your dick in crazy."

Edit: in episode 13. CHEECH!
