That move isn't Jordanesque. That's just some crazy ass shot that goes in. Might as well call it Tyus Edneyesque.

Oh please. As the announcer on the video says, a player needs body control to do that and Manu has shown several times that he is capable of doing it.

But against Christie, Jordan went for 12 points and 17 points that year. :D

He put up 25/6 reb/9 assists against Christie in '03. He also dropped 41 and 36 against Ron Artest in two meetings.

What he accomplished at that age was phenomenal. Here are some player comparison stats from '01-'02:

Jordan (age 39): 23 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 5.2 apg, 1.42 steals/game

Ray Allen: 21.8 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 3.9 apg, 1.28 steals/game

Kobe: 25.2 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 5.5 apg, 1.48 steals/game

TMac: 25.6 ppg, 7.9 rpg, 5.3 apg, 1.57 steals/game

Pierce: 26.1 ppg, 6.9 rpg, 3.2 apg, 1.88 steals/game

Vince Carter: 24.7 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 4.0 apg, 1.57 steals/game

(It should also be noted when comparing #'s that Jordan played an average of 5-6 minutes per game less than these players that season)

Now, you mean to tell me that there's a yawning gulf between the numbers of these players? :lol This is not to say that Jordan at age 39-40 was as good as these guys, because clearly he was not-- but to try and minimize what Jordan accomplished during his run with the Wizards at that age is just silly.

I'm not dissing Manu, it was a great shot. It just has nothing to do with Jordan. Thats only a shot that a small guard can do or gets in the position to do, not a swing man.

Well, the Jordan reference was just because the announcer said it and because 90% of the people on this thread are obsessed with him, be it hate or love, so I must join in somehow. :p

Doesn't "swing man" = SG or SF? Manu's a SG, no?

Former Los Angeles Lakers and Chicago Bulls coach Phil Jackson said in an interview Monday with ESPN in Melbourne, Australia, he has not been contacted by New York Knicks president Isiah Thomas, but he would listen if the call does come.

Jackson, who is taking in the Australian Open, stopped by the ESPN set at the tournament to do a sit-down interview with Chris Fowler. Jackson was non-commital about a comeback, but didn't rule it out, either.

Don't do it Phil! :(

Starbury kills coaching careers!

In 2002 Jordan had 25 pts and 9 assists in a 108-101 win against the Kings :p

The season where the Wizards were in the 5th seed before his injury :(

I know you had something to do with it, bionic!

I may live in DC but I am innocent. Look at my avatar AND tag!

It was pretty amazing that Jordan could almost lead his team to the playoffs at age 40 in the Eastern Conference. Having those great teams like Miami, Charlotte, and Atlanta in his division made those accomplishments all the more meaningful. I mean even T-Mac couldn't do it in Orlando in his prime more then a few times before he quit. Jordan at 40 was almost as good as some Eastern Conference teams lead by Stephon Marbury that made the playoffs. It really made me cry when Kobe exposed him for that 45 point half.

I just wish he still had Pippen to carry him to glory when he came back to the NBA......

RUH OH! Hinrich has Jordan's Number!

I've seen the basketball card that has him wearing the number 12. My cousin showed it to me a long time ago.

New PR are out:

1 (1) Spurs 34-9 As stated Friday, the NBA's elite starts and ends with Spurs right now. They clearly deserve a second All-Star, but here's where we're not so sure: Is it Parker or the 48-point Manu?

2 (3) Suns 32-10 The committee, as you know, does not believe in curses. But even we can't deny that the problems in Phoenix appear to have coincided with the release of our ''Sunny and 70'' opus.

3 (2) SuperSonics 28-11 Sonics are petitioning the league for more Sunday home games because they haven't lost one yet (6-0). On the flip side, Seattle is just 11-8 since that 17-3 start.

4 (7) Mavericks 27-12 There is no shame ranking No. 2 in Texas these days. Because Mavs just keep rolling in the face of injuries (Howard), absences (Nellie) and inconsistencies (Dampier).

5 (6) Kings 27-12 Until Spurs showed up, Sacramento had been unbeaten (6-0) since swapping for Christie for Mobley. Even after Sunday night, Kings are suddenly just two back of Phoenix in the loss column.

6 (4) Heat 30-12 No question Heat's record against the West could be better (9-9), but perhaps we should be more impressed with that 21-3 record within the East. Just throwing it out there.

7 (10) Cavaliers 24-15 LeBron's dream is AVERAGING a triple-double some day, like he says in the commercial. But two in one week and a 3-3 trip out West ain't bad for a second-year manchild.

8 (8) Wizards 24-15 Not only are Wiz hanging tough without Hughes, but don't forget that they still haven't been able to play their preferred front line together (Haywood, Etan and Kwame).

9 (9) Grizzlies 23-19 Besides sparking Pau, Czar Fratello has Grizz playing some serious defense as well. In its 9-2 January, Memphis has held eight of 11 opponents under 90 points.

10 (5) Pistons 23-17 After winning six in a row to suggest they're finally back, Pistons drop three in a row for the first time all season. Which pretty much spoiled the Arroyo trade celebrations.

...................................................................

16 (17) Bulls 19-19 The good news: Bulls still lead the league in FG defense at .410. The better news: Chicago hasn't been at .500 later than 2-2 (in '02-03) since MJ retired . . . until now. :D

Did you look at his stats and accomplishments at age 39-40 that I posted? Or are you choosing to remain willfully blind? :lol

He was an elite SG at age 39 and 40; to think that he wouldn't have dominated today the same way he did when he was younger is just silly, and all evidence points against it.

And I know you're just trying to stir the pot, but Kobe did not "expose Jordan" for a 45-point half (it was 42, points, btw; Kobe-whores seem to think that he's the only player to score 40+ in one half, when Jordan did so three times: 41, 40, 40). Jordan didn't even guard Kobe that game, Stackhouse did. Kobe's claim to fame involves abusing Jerry Stackhouse-- keep that in mind. :D

One will never know until the appointed time, will they? Don't worry, I'm sure Kobe will shoot 55% the rest of the season to finish at the 48% you stated he would. :lol

"One thing about T-Mac," he explains, "I have everything here that I want, and am happy with it so I don't go out that much. I have my own chef, I don't have to go out to shoot a basketball or workout; I have my friends and my family here. I'm real simple, you know? Night life around here is a little better than in Orlando. But as far as going out to bowling alleys and just doing fun things, I don't do it 'cause I'm lazy. There's the truth, I am lazy."

mcgrady_home.jpg

The house, which belonged to Astros pitcher Shane Reynolds, came with an indoor basketball court. And McGrady knows how to move in style: He brought his trainer, chef, security guard, and personal barber from Orlando with him. The barber stops by McGrady's place every game day. "I like to be fresh on game days," McGrady adds with a sly grin. "Oh, and yeah, I do need to have my barber cut Yao up. That was a good one, Steve. I'll come back at ya later. Please believe it."

mcgrady_fan.jpg

Checking out what H-Town has to offer, McGrady ran into a fan every three steps. With everyone offering sign-here-please scraps of paper, smiles and stories ("I met you five years ago. My brother played ball with your homeboy ..."), McGrady was cool, shaking hands, soaking up the accolades and agreeing with the fans that bringing home a championship is the first order of business.

mcgrady_chicken.jpg

After feeling like Francis gave his well-thought-out Orlando list a bit of a raw deal, McGrady was dead-set on panning Frenchy's, Houston's best-kept secret. But, sometimes you just can't fight the fried chicken.

"Frenchy's was pretty good," McGrady concedes after his lunchtime sampling. "It reminds me of Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles, so that's saying a lot. Overall, one through 10, I give it a strong, strong nine ... and that's just off the chicken. Steve did all right."

Roscoe's! Damn, I haven't been there in a while... :(

mcgrady_bowling.jpg

"I haven't been to the movies, bowling alley ... on my days off I'm not leaving the house. I'm sorry. I really, really don't like to leave the house. I'm a prisoner of my own home — by choice."

Mig, why haven't you seen T-Mac around?!

Why are the T-Pups (0-2 vs LA), Rockets (0-2 vs LA) and Magic (1-1 vs LA) all ranked higher than the Lakers even though they have worse records? :lol

What do you think it is, a conspiracy? :lol

Damn, check out the rankings from SportsNation. Bulls at 7!? I love my fellow Bulls fans, but I would have to swap the Wiz and the Bulls from 7 and 11. And Sacremento deserves more credit from the fans.

I agree the Lakers are rated pretty low, but ranking really don't mean shit anyways. The Wolves can get by on their reputation from last year, but I don't see how the Rockets got rated so highly.

even though i give Tmac/Yao/VanGundy shit all the time, the Rockets i can understand being around the same level as the Lakers, even a little ahead subjectively, but the Twolves are a fucking sinking ship. Anyone who has that pack of underachieving losers ranked ahead of LA at this point is a moron.

Ummm....Memphis is actually good (10 Ws in their last 12) and the 2nd Utah game was very winnable but Tierrible had two 3s dropped on him in the last minutes >_<

Minny and the Rox have both lost (Houston twice) to the BOBCATS...AT HOME!! :lol

Rockets = 3-3 vs Dallas/San Antonio/Phoenix/Seattle (note: haven't played Seattle yet)
Lakers = 0-6 vs Dallas/San Antonio/Phoenix/Seattle

We can do this all day. :)

Nothing to be proud of really, (3-3) but I'd rather be 3-3 against the top half of the West Conference than 0-6.

Cloudy said:

YOU MAKE IT SOUND LIKE THIS NEVER HAPPENS TO ANYONE ELSE BUT THE LAKERS! It's happened to the Rockets plenty this year when Lue and Ward were manning the point. Quit making excuses, cause that happens to every team.

Lakers were in all of those games except one and if they played smart at the end, they'd have beat Phoenix twice.

But forget the PRs. Do you honestly believe the Rockets, Wolves and Magic are better than the Lakers? (Better = Win a 7 game series)
