Jay-Z Quiets Critics With Indie Cred
Rapper Wins Over Glastonbury Fans With Oasis Cover

One downside to the festivities, however, was the lack of crowd control as the stage was set for Jay-Z. As thousands of fans surged away from the stage for a break, thousands more pushed through.

"I have been coming here for 13 years, and I have never ever seen anything like this," said Carole Burroughs, who was caught in the throng. "It's frightening, and I hope organizers can learn something from this."

i have so much love for him picking up a guitar and trying to do that :lol

then following up with 99 problems :lol i love jay z.

edit: that show was awesome apparently. jay z finished by goin "Signin' off as the hoods Barack *points finger like a gun* BRRRRAAAAAKKKK"

Its obviously a joke, he really wasn't trying to sing well. It was awesome by the way.

I like Oasis, but fuck Noel Gallagher for still trying to throw his weight around.

Na that was mid-way through, he signed off with Encore. He laid into bush a load of times through-out the show as well. A one point he mentioned Air Force 1 crashing with him onboard and the crowd cheered :lol

I do understand people who say it wasn't a 'glastonbury' performance, but I think it's good for opinions like that to be challenged every now and again, Jay Z was the perfect man to do that because he isn't some Hip-hop zealot coming over to trying to turn the whole show into gangstars paradise, he's a class act, happy to be a part of something totally unique.

a classy retort to an uncouth statement made by an irrelevant noisebox.

I would hardly call it 'classy'. It was obviously light hearted though.

I would say he did OK. He certainly didn't 'silence the critics' but he put in a decent performance at Galstonbury given the circumstances. He's one of the very few 'hip-hop' artists I can tolerate and I am more into the conventional Glastonbury music so he's about the only one who could have pulled it off without getting booed off.

I say classy because instead of coming out and saying, "yo oasis fuck you I can do what I want because I am rap's grateful dead," he came out with modest aplomb, played one of their shit songs, and then going right into his songs. he put noel in his place without even having to spit one slur; fact is, oasis hasn't headlined glastonbury in years, and probably never will again.

I dunno, I see what you're saying but he made himself look like a right tit from where I sit.

Sorry, you're right, I'll just start saying dude and stoked in case anyone notices I'm not American.

murdered it. And that's not easy, it's not a song that is particularly difficult to sing or play.

stick to what you know, let school bands do shitty covers.

The man has many musical tastes outside of rap. Yall should applaud him acting on it to enhance his music (even if he fucked up a Oasis classic). You should meet a rapper someday. They are so one dimensional (for the sake of "acting the part") it's nauseating.

that's fair enough, and it's nice that he likes all sorts of music.

But that doesn't change that it wasn't very good. Not that it matters, but you should be allowed to say it.

depends on the rapper. sage francis was rather personable when I met him.

Wouuld have been better if he did a live mashup singing using his strengths (rapping), but give him credit for trying something diffrent

He wasn't being serious, he knows he can't sing and he doesn't care. Its a joke.

They last headlined in 2004... and to be honest, they could headline it every year if they wanted. Shit, Michael Eavis was pleading afterwards for them to headline 2009. Ticket sales were down for a reason after all and it wasn't rain -- Glasto is KNOWN for its mud. In recent years, they'd sell out on the first day of availability, this year they didn't even sell out until the day of.

When asked if Oasis could follow next year as headliners, Eavis joked: "If they like, all sins are forgiven Noel!"

oasis don't need Glasto, 2004 was the first time they'd played since headling back in 95.
