Jay-Z's Magna Carta Holy Grail |OT| Can't Be As Bad As Kingdom Come or BP3

Even his worst albums have a few great songs, which is better than what most rappers can do. Bring it on, Jay.

Seems like endemic to the whole industry, because I also tried to listen to some Kanye West stuff having absolutely no idea of what I was getting into only to be greeted by some übercompressed digitized orchestra shit and some voices autotuned so much that they would even get Cher flustered.

But this is coming from a total outsider! Don't mind me. And if everybody more or less goes in the same direction that means they are doing something right for the hundreds of thousands of people who are really into that.

Just to give you an idea of how stupidly out of the loop I am, my current top 3 hip hop tracks are (just off my mind) dead presidents ii, gimme the loot and can't knock the hustle.

Maybe THA SHIZNIT if you catch me in the right mood.

But I'll give it a cursory listen, why not. And will go back to those two albums since you mentioned them. Maybe something else sticks!

So you haven't heard Illmatic yet?

Man, so much cynicism in this thread, lol.

Can't wait for the album, really excited. Assuming it'll still be another 2+ weeks on Spotify?

jay z how it feel to live in Kanye's shadow

no way this is gonna be better than Yeezus

jay z has progressively been going downhill since Reasonable Doubt

Man, that trumpet solo at the start of that song is engrained in me. Instantly think of it when somebody mentiones 'The Ruler's Back'.

fuck it, i'm gonna listen to that shit right now.

But seriously reconsider the title. Dat negativity.

Hov Season is now underway

A little old, but still some cool info: VIBE Exclusive: Nas Says He May Or May Not Appear On Jay-Z's 'Magna Carta Holy Grail'
Hip-hop collectively peed its pants when Def Jam A&R Lenny S. uploaded a photo of Jay-Z, Timbaland, Justin Timberlake and Nas kicking it at Swizz Beatz’s Jungle City studios earlier this month. Nas, who is pictured clutching a glass of Henny, helped add some color to the already-classic candid.

“It’s Rat Pack-ing,” Nas told VIBE yesterday afternoon (June 27), alluding to Frank Sinatra’s crew of kingpins. “We were definitely recording. Magna Carta was going down. Some Justin Timberlake new album stuff was in the next room. Timbaland. D'USSE. Hennessey. Good times.”

Will the work and play captured in Lenny S.’s lens yield any monster collaborations for Jay-Z’s Magna Carta Holy Grail or Justin Timberlake’s The 20/20 Experience Part 2?

“I think you’re going to see me on a project, maybe two projects,” says Nas, before adding a cryptic “but who knows?”

Still hot off 2012’s worshipped Life Is Good and his torch-passing response to J. Cole's "Let Nas Down," the Queensbridge rapper is more certain about the status of his next LP, of which he’d announced via his Twitter account (@Nas) that he’d reveal the title in May. Two months later, the world continues to wait.

“I’ve been swamped with so much I didn’t even have the time,” he says, still tight-lipped about the album’s title. Nas says he’s begun the recording process, yet he’s still in the early stages.

“There are so many things that ain’t been said; so many things that I’ve seen that I ain’t never told,” says Nas. “I’m so excited to tell this story because it’s real shit and it’s needed. I hate to sound like that, because we all sound like we think we’re big shit. But fuck it—it’s needed.”

While there’s no anticipated release date for Nas’ new project, Magna Carta Holy Grail will be released on July 4 and The 20/20 Experience Part 2 is scheduled for a Sept. 30 drop date. —John Kennedy
Official tracklist says that Nas is in, so it's locked.

I wonder if he shows up on Justin's album.

No, features are coming out as the lyrics are coming out. It's incomplete.

Thanks.

At the very least the production should be nice on this. But like others have said, Im not sure if Jay will lyrically bring it while remaining interesting (meaning he doesnt talk about the same shit over and over).

this is supposedly the good end of the Hov album cycle, so I remain optimistic.

BP - What he did decades ago as a coke dealer
BP2 - Less about being a dealer and more about how awesome he is
Black Album - His personal life...as a coke dealer
Kingdom Come - Trying to be politically deep...drowned in the shallow water
American Gangster - What he did decades ago as a coke dealer
BP3 - "I wanna be artsy like Kanye!"
Magna Carta Holy Grail - "I think I figured out how to be artsy like Kanye"

Jay needs to get in on the hype right now. He needs to release Made Jay Proud Too (Prod. by Hudson Mohawke, Travi$ Scott & Daft Punk).

"Trouble" is awesome. The rest? Not so much.

Lost Ones disagrees. Probably my favourite Jay track.

I don't think Jay-Z can reach something that high anymore.

could have asked him this the minute kanye put out college dropout
