But this is Oblivion from 2005...

Lmao. You really think those are 2005 assets? 2025 assets, lighting are way more taxing on hardware. It's not even remotely close. Btw, my 4080 PC is at least 20x more powerful than a Switch 2 and I can't even keep a stable 120fps 4k with the OLD version. You'll be lucky to see a stable 30fps at 4k with an updated version. 1080p with drops under 30fps is actually more feasible.

Whether its RE4 or Demons´s Souls or this it seems we have to recycle the same soul vs soulless talking points for every single remaster/remake announcement. In 20 years I have literally never once heard anyone praise the artstyle of Oblivion´s bloom infested generic fantasy world prior to this thread but now evidently they `ruined` it. :messenger_sleeping:

I think it will handle it. If it can run CP2077 with PS4 settings I expect at least that for this remaster.

i'll wait and see as i do with all games, i loved Oblivion back in 2006, i just hope they have done it properly and not leaving anything out or cut corners etc.

300k+ CCU on Steam at least even with gamepass. This game is going to do amazing.

Looks good even with the darker tone. Although would have rather they went for Morrowind since thats easily rh most unique and best ES game so far. Or maybe Daggerfall or Arena instead because there's already SKYWIND and Skyobivion.

Please let there be mod support with the creation kit/XEDIT as that's the most important part easily in Bethesda game even though their base versions are already really fun but the modding tools have always been tier tool and fits super well to immersive and improve things up unlike other games.

Still like I said Arena and Daggerfall would have been better if they were going to use a good amount of resource on it which looks like they did. So those two oldest games would be up to date and they could cut down the huge random generated part of Daggerfall and make them a similar size to the recent 3 Elder Scroll games.

I'll be giving both this and Skyobivion a try. Without a creation kit for advance mods than Skyobivion would obviously end up being better and also outlasting this. But if this also gets a creation kit/advance mod system than both of them would last a lifetime.

It's funny if it weren't so sad, isn't it?

Looks good.

If they manage to fix the enemy scaling, dungeon variety and increase the pool of voice actor talent, this could a banger.

Speaking of v/o talent, it wouldn't have hurt to throw this guy a line of dialogue, or two.

Oblivion was a fun first person fantasy action game and horrible RPG.

I would hope, if they spent the time remaking it, they would also improve its game design.

No idiotic level scaling. No endless boring oblivion gates. No shitty dialogue system and fetch quests.

But, I am near certain none of Oblivion's design issues will be addressed.

*AHEM* I see the curvier spriggans mod comes pre-installed
Looks good. I hope there are slight modernization efforts to fix the combat, and I hope Jeremy Soule's soundtrack makes it in.

Everyone said Avowed is full of rainbows, but this is too brown. What is it people want exactly?

When people think of Oblivion they usually have bright green forests in mind, which is fair, but a lot of the time Oblivion was brown, gray and full of bloom.

The environments also vary wildly with weather conditions and time of day.

I wonder how it will play? If it retains Bethesda's trademark stiffness and convoluted menus all the new models, textures, and lighting will not really mean much.

I can't wait!! I remember getting 1000/1000 achievements back in the day on the 360. Still remember picking up my collector's edition (deluxe, or whatever it was called) at the local Gamestop.

Looking forward to doing it all over again! Even though I have GP, I'll probably just buy it on Steam to have it there.

Tried upscaling the image. Not bad if it really looks like this.

At first some of the other image looks too dark washed out but after seeing more shots like this one you post, the oblivion gate one, the one with the scamp on the bridge etc. It actually looks pretty good as these shots actually have more clarity and colors to it compared to the first two screenshots I saw. So I guess it depends on the location and weather etc.

They sucked the color right out of that opening scene when you leave the starting dungeon. God I fucking hate "realism" sometimes. Looks absolutely worse aesthetically.

Seeing the open landscape and Vilverin across the river after you leave the sewer was an iconic moment of gaming for me. Part of the impact was how bright and colorful the world was after being in a dark and cramped sewer for the 30 minute tutorial section.

Yes one of my most vivid memories is leaving that dungeon and seeing the bright colorful world and being in awe. This just completely robs that feeling, washed a brown gritty look.
