Tried upscaling the image. Not bad if it really looks like this.

Here's the same location from the original

My main worry is that the game won't have the same OST? I'm only speculating, but its something that crossed my mind.

Ah, there it is, my GOTY*

* unless they mess up the item interactivity and game world life or if performance is crap or if there is shader stutter on PC. No pressure Bethesda!

Yeah same. After Soules cancelation I can see them remaking the OST instead of using the same one. Hope that either I'm wrong or that they don't fuck it up too much.

I dont dig the new palette, in all honesty. They've literally traded vivid green for PS360 gen brown.

Otherwise, I'm not getting my hopes up, since it's basically new engine and assets over 2006 game (a known fact from 2023 Reddit leak). And Oblivion wasn't full of bright game design ideas even back then.

Oblivion was a fun first person fantasy action game and horrible RPG.

I would hope, if they spent the time remaking it, they would also improve its game design.

No idiotic level scaling. No endless boring oblivion gates. No shitty dialogue system and fetch quests.

But, I am near certain none of Oblivion's design issues will be addressed.
I wouldn't say it was bad by the time of its release. It was incredible, such freedom and beauty was never met outside of previous episodes.
NPC interactions were really immersive.

But like you said, some tinkering is needed to make it relevant today on numerous game design choices.
Level scaling needs a lot of rework, and much more variety in dungeons, caves and oblivion gates.

Gameplay wise, they are reworking things (at least it's rumored), but I've heard noting on the points above and it's not reassuring.

I'll still pick it up, because last year I've been replaying it but was a bit disapointed by the lack of graphical mods compared to Skyrim.
The mod RAEVWD (Really Almost Everything Visible When Distant) still crushes PC nowadays lol.

So official optimisation and enhancements on this side is welcome.

Yeah no way it's a actual remake of something as big as Oblivion if it's going to be a shadow drop. Would have gotten tons of marketing before way before. It'll probably be a HD Remaster similar to The Thing Remaster, Legacy of Kain remaster, System Shock 2 remaster or at most it'll be the higher quality tier remasters like Saints Row the Third and Ninja Gaiden 2 etc and they'll just made the rumors call it a remake to sound more impressive or something. Assuming it's even true which I'm almost certain it's not and if it is true than it'll be more remasters than a actual remake.

Although not 100% impossible if this Bethesda gave this company the Fallout 4 engine many years ago just like how they gave Osidian the Fallout 3 engine to make NV but I still highly doubt it. 99% doubt.

Your entire post makes no sense.

We have comparison screenshots showing it is a significant remake and upgrade.

Will the PC version have native controller support or will I have to use some 3rd party kludge workaround?
Only Skyrim had proper controller support in a PC box set of ES 1-5.

If confirmed leaks to be believed, it's Demon Souls remaster soulmate (and it's even called Oblivion Remastered). It's an UE5 frontend with news assets and maybe sounds that is running over Creation Engine game logic from 2006, that's why it is made by an asset house, not internal team at Bethesda.

All the games have controller support nowadays. And even those that don't are perfectly playable thanks to Steam Input, which is what I used to play Oblivion on the Deck.

I wouldn't care. Not for this game. I have so many good memories of this game, even though I always leveled up the wrong way and never finished it. It's one of my all-time greats.
But that also means they need to keep many things as they were!
To each their own, but I've never understood the drama surrounding pronouns on a character customization screen that you see briefly once and never again. Even more so when there's a WHOLE LOT OF AMAZING GAME present. Revisiting Oblivion will be such a treat. Assuming it's being handled well, which I mean, it has to live up to it. That'd be such a fail if it didn't, lol.

I'd assume it will have native controller support. Especially with it launching other various platforms.

Agreed, at the time, this game was a pioneer. I own many versions of it across many platforms and just love returning to it, for the music alone!

Sorry Denton Denton ....we might just skip KCD2 if this really releases next week and I might call it a year for RPGs for me. Already a packed year and after AC Shadows, Bravely Default remaster in the summer etc, this one would be tipping the scales a bit and KCD2 would have to get a used purchase next year if I have the time.

Now if it happens to not release next week.....KCD2 summer purchase confirmed lol

I was wrong about it being fake and also thinking it'll be a remaster instead of a remake but that was before I saw the actual screenshots lol. And yes after seeing all these confirmed screenshots, it indeed looks like a remake instead of a remaster.

Op poll sucks. I want the oblivion remake ( yes I bought horse armor for the original).

However Morrowind would be god tier and filter beginners. Ai Todd Howard will eventually give us a morrowind remake.

They are stupid if they dont do this with Skyrim as well.

I never finished Oblivions campaign, and it bothers me to skip it and play a remaster before I do. I might go back and play Oblivion now, before I start on the remake. Thats how stupid I am.

Holy shit!

If this is real then that might mean the Fallout 3 remaster is also real!!!!!!*

*faps into a coma.

Im pretty excited about this. I always thought Oblivions questlines were better than Skyrims.
It's because they were. Ever since Morrowind Bethesdas strategy seems to have been to make the graphics and world better but the writing worse. Fallout 4 was probably the tip here because with Starfield obviously both the writing AND the world got worse.

Morrowind is still the best ES game with the only thing missing are making advance A.I that Obivion, Skyrim, Fallout 3, and 4 got.

Skywind the Morrowind fan made remake looks super impressive but it needs to actually come out first.

Skyrim is still too soon since the Special Edition still looks alright.

Should be more on Morrowind, Daggerfall, Fallout 3 or the older Fallout or even Elder Sxrolls Redguard.

Yes, it should be Morrowind, but it realistically cannot be. Oblivion is relatively easy to remake compared to Morrowind without gutting it almost completely - Morrowind is a text driven game with a massive amount of it. Considering they wouldn't release a game like that in "this day and age", we are left with the result of Oblivion, which was already voiced and therefore can be more readily done in a way that more accurately represents the original product. At least, I wouldn't likely want whatever they think a "Morrowind remake" would look like. I'm not sure I want whatever they think an "Oblivion remake" will look like - with the exception of Skyblivion - that I do want.

But let's see what we see.
Yeah they would never, sadly. The attention span of younger gamers and many older gamers are shit. Only classic DnD fans and crpgs gamers would shift through the text and they know this. They dev for the most common denominator.

I kind of don't want them messing with the game too much outside of texture and art, well and improving lod as modern systems can handle it without that crazy 300ft and details going to crap (although it does coincide with my real life shitty -4.5 with astigmatism vision, lol....)

OK. this thread asks for GENUINE oblivion screenshots.
So happens I was always taking screenshots.
It is time to share my oblivion screenshots from ...10-15 years ago?! 20?!
Yes. Some of the screenshots are so old, they are 1024x768

I was obsessed with this game.
pc shots. maxed out. Always.
edit: It's impossible to explain how good this game fucking looked and felt. It was incredible. and it had physics on top of all!

....

I played it at release and enjoyed it a lot too, but even then, I already played Gothic 1 and 2 and those are just vastly superior in some important aspects, which is why I found Oblivion in some ways deficient. It did feel very "nextgen" though when it came out.
And the soundtrack was 10/10. I actually liked Shivering Isles more than the main game.

No matter how good the remake is, it will not be better than KCD2. But I get that nostalgia is a powerful drug. And yeah this year is big when it comes to RPGs, even just non-asian ones.

KCD2
Avowed
Gothic remake
Oblivion remake
Vampire Bloodlines 2
Clair Obscur 33
Outer Worlds 2

Oblivion Remake would be 10 times better than all those other game listed there combined.

Even OG Modded Obivion is way more fun than them combined despise modded Oblivion not being as fun as other modded ES or FO games.

I'm struggling to see the issue with these screenshots. At least its not sickly colourful like Avowed.

All I'm worried about now is the performance. Hopefully because it's UE5 there is good upscaling support.

Assuming you're talking about Avowed, I had no issues with that and you could deactivate it in the settings so I never saw it anyway.

Yeah revisiting Oblivion will be awesome, and going through the starter area and experiencing that step out moment will beat everything if they don't mess it up. OG Oblivion already have the best start in a game ever imo. And there is so much I haven't done in it since I always messed up how to level up properly and started over before reaching the end.

But this is UE5, right? That makes me nervous… People always complain about creation engine but few games has as many world simulation systems running in the back and allow as deep modding as Bethesda's RPGs.
I fear that it'll be a pretty but shallow version of one of my fav games.

Day one whenever this releases for me.

Was a million times better than Skyrim.
Besides the guild quests being more fun, I also like how there's multiple mage and fighter guild halls across cities instead of just one location like the Compsnions and College of Winterhold from Skyrim.

Mehrunes Dagon and his daedric army would mop the floor with Alduin and the dragons.
