I guess we will see if accelerationism is a valid theory

This is the only real silver lining but i don't count on it in today's America. The internet has made people way too polarized for healing and reappacification to actually happen

It'll be funny if the Democratic strategy will be the opposite of the one the GoP has employed for most of Obama's tenure. Make the POTUS look bad not by blocking him at every turn, but by enabling him.

Like, who knows, the whole world's gone mad.

I have entertained this thought as of late. In reality, I wouldn't want that to happen because it would be horrible for numerous groups of people, but it is an interesting "what if." It would possibly provide concrete evidence that certain policies work/do not work (I would lean on the latter being more true for Trump).

Again, just to be clear, I am not saying I would actually want this to happen.

They won't. Schumer's plan is rather obvious. They will use Trump's stance and bluster to shove a lot of this bullshit down the GOPs throat and put it on their plate.

Random: "Trump wants to help get jobs and infrastructure!"
Schumer: "Okay, here are thirty bills to do just that, Mr. President."
Trump: "Seems good. Let's do that."
GOP: "Uhhh."
Trump: "Seems not so good. Let's not do that."

Non US based poster. Do the Republican party have any heavyweights that are sane and anchored in reality that can oppose Trump within the party?

I'm pretty sure only about 11 elected Republicans believe in Climate Change, so sanity and doing whats right is hard to come by at this point.

Just wonder about what kind of message the GOP will be sending if they accept Session's nomination after blocking him in the 80's for being a racist douchelord.

It's not a matter of if, but a matter of when now:

@SenateMajLdr
I strongly support President-elect @realDonaldTrump's selection of @SenatorSessions as #AttorneyGeneral & look forward to his confirmation.

and say what? I have no idea what to say.

This is the script people have been using for the Steve Bannon appointment:

"Hello, I am your constituent from [INSERT LOCATION] and I was wondering when [INSERT NAME] was planning on releasing a statement condemning Steve Bannon, the white supremacist who Donald Trump has appointed as his chief strategist.”

Just swap Steve Bannon for Jeff Sessions, and chief strategist for Attorney General and you're pretty good to go.

Flake and Graham have both said they'll support him.

There's zero chance he'll not make it through.
They have no backbone, surprise!

Fucking hell, I've been keeping track of all of Trump's appointments and there hasn't been a single non-garbage human being yet.

Not in the legislative branch really. Their voting base would choose Trump's bullshit over their rationality in a heartbeat.

Nah it is a stupid theory. Like burning down a house so you can build in a second bathroom

So to recap:

  • Bannon, a white nationalist ideologue and the biggest pusher of the Alt-Right, will be Trump's chief strategist.
  • Sessions, a man so racist that 80's GOP turned its back on him, will probably be the new AG.
  • Flynn, who was utterly despised at the Defense Intelligence Agency, is a crazy islamophobe, appears on RT, dines with Putin and retweets Prison Planet articles will be the new national security advisor, no approval required.
  • Pompeo, a total wingnut with no intelligence credentials (let alone actual acumen) and who has gone on the record to proclaim his desire of changing Iran's regime, will be the new head of the CIA.

Here's what your meme magic brought, numbnuts.
You forgot the dude who was a senior member or an anti-lgbt hate group is the domestic policy transition leader.

Or the fact that the head of the GOP is one of Trump's top guys too, and a JP Morgan exec was floated around for sec of treasury (how's that swamp draining going?)

Actually that's a REALLY high bar even in American politics. As awful as this is, we've had Andrew Jackson at one point.

The scum is all that is left.

Whatever message it is, i'm sure they'll use coded lanugage to portray it.

Like "Economic Anxiety."

You don't want to let the GOP say things like "Jeff Sessions was a bipartisan selection. Both Democrats and Republicans found him to be an appropriate choice for the position."

At this rate, America isn't just going to suffer a brutal degrading decline in civil rights and economic power, but is straight up going to become a rogue nation that's a threat to world security.

LOL Mitch McConnell...

Yea, lets talk about the fair and expeditious treatment for Obama's SCOTUS nominee you refused to even interview...

Fucking hypocrite.

It's important to remember back during Reagan, Sessions wasn't a Senator yet.

Working with someone for years is likely to help you look past any "blemishes" on their record, unless you're Ted Cruz.

How is it that the Reagan era was against this but the modern day isn't. How. How. How.
The Republican who blocked Sessions' nomination was Charles Matthias Jr., a liberal Republican from Maryland. There aren't any liberal Republicans left in the Senate, least of all from Maryland.

Celebrating son, no time to post on GAF.

Has anyone peeked into r the Donald and see what they have said about these picks?

Literally nothing, not acknowledged all. Threads probably deleted. At least that was the case with Blackwell and the climate change denier guy - one or two threads with no upvotes that basically expressed "I love Trump but ummm not so sure about his pick here."

It's mostly just memes and Pepes though. Really scary stuff, reality has nothing to do with it.

Edit: oh no wait they're openly celebrating Sessions because it eliminates doubts that Trump "will be tough in illegal immigration."

I assume my reading of "He spoke earlier this year about his regrets about not getting involved in the civil rights movement as a young adult." is generous and the opposite of what he meant?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nr6gVRvO8bo

He was talking at an event honoring the Selma marchers. Could be lies or could be one of the many people that respect the civil rights movement while being blind to modern day discrimintation.

His KKK "joke" is the only thing making me think he doesn't actually care about the civil rights movement and was just saying what sounds good politically.
