Jehovah's Witness missionaries just straight up lying.

They lie when they come to my house as well but they all usually pile out of a van and pair off to feebly attempt to conquer the neighborhood.

Well I mean if they said that upfront, they wouldn't get nearly as much attention from people. Hell you yourself probably would've stopped the conversation from the beginning had it started with "Hi, we're Jehovah's Witnesses going around hoping to help the blind and teach them the good word".

Well yeah, and that would be for the better. What if there actually was someone in my household who was deaf/blind? Would they have then at that point mentioned that they were a religious organization? They'd probably ask to speak to the deaf/blind person. Which is probably their trick, now that I think about it.

If they had lead with the fact that they were JW I could have just said "no thank you". As it was the interaction felt really weird because once they pulled out the flier I felt like I was talking to someone who was very flagrantly lying and putting on an act (and also completely crazy), and I kind of just went along with what I thought was an act, although all of my responses after that were just kinda like, "yeah, mhmm". At no point did she actually say that she was JW. In hindsight they might have thought what they were saying was true.

Yes, once you take a pamphlet they never leave you alone. My girlfriends 18 year old son took from some people that stopped at our house and they come back like every weekend now.

Yeah, this is another layer to it I feel kinda bad about. Because now my parent's house is "marked" and I know my Mom is too nice to get herself blacklisted.

Once had a pt who was a JW and absolutely needed a blood transfusion. Pt refused because of their religious beliefs and ended up dying that week.

While a lie of omission is a thing, it's hard to tell if it applies here. So while not completely honest, I would not say they were "straight up lying".

I myself have not had any interaction with JWs. They apparently have a branch in my city but I know nothing of it.

They were not "straight up lying".
People have different approaches when they go door to door, there is not one template.
Some people's faith is in the fact that deaf and infirm people will be healed when they are in paradise.
Usually these people have had family members who have suffered or have been through hardships.
Try harder to try and stir up the typical anti religious hate for thread jollies.

Here, I'll show you "hate" (though it's just the reality of the situation) - they lie at every door, even if they really believe in what they're saying.

That persecution complex satisfied now? : p

Haven't had one in front of our door for years now.

Last time was an old co-worker of my dad and hehe, he never could stand that guy. The co-worker (in his younger years) pro-claimed to be a bad catholic and didn't care much for religion. These days he's a very devoted Jehova's Witness. So when he rang the doorbell here my father opened the door, looked at him, began to laugh and shook his head. "Yeah, I don't feel like talking to hypocrites" and closed the door.

Never saw him again.

Wait, you made it sound way worse.

So I just got some Jehovah's Witness missionaries knocking on my door (first time I've experienced this, maybe this is just their modus operandi) and they just straight up lied about who they were and what they were doing. Not even something like being a bit dishonest about the reality of their organization. They told me they were from an organization that helps the deaf/blind and that they were canvassing the neighborhood looking for deaf/blind people who might need help. At this point I still thought they actually were from such an organization, but then she pulls out a JW flyer and points to the big JW.ORG and says this website has lots of great information for deaf/blind people. Jehovah, would I have liked to see the look on my face the moment she pulled that one. Ultimately they just hand me the flyer and leave, so thankfully not too much trouble for me. But like, what the fuck was that?

A. They weren't missionaries. All JW's go Door to Door as part of their own personal ministry.

B. They most likely were searching for deaf and blind people specifically while still taking the opportunity to preach to any in general who would listen, most likely because they thought you were a nice guy or interested in the message.

My fam is non denomination Christians and we find Jehova witnesses annoying af. My Granny told them to fuck off and slammed the door in their face lol

I accidentally answered the door one time wearing nothing but butt huggers. It's not a pretty sight. So I didn't realize until the door was open and they were standing there kind of like "uhhh...." and then they turned around and left. No trouble since then, hooray for accidents.

That happened with me but it wasn't a accident. Full on naked in my wheelchair. The 2 Mormons who showed up got the same treatment. That was fun and have never been bothered in 14 year's since.

It's really weird how outraged you are. They weren't missionaries. They we just normal Jehovah's Witnesses who go door to door who happen to be a part of a deaf congregation. They're looking to help and spread the message to those who wouldn't otherwise get a chance to consider the questions they pose and the answers that they give.

And if you're not interested in them calling and too afraid to answer the door, perhaps just act like a normal person and tell them that you have no interest in their message and to not call back. They'll make a note of it.

How brave of her.

Another day, another thread dedicated to bashing JW's. You were approached by a sign language congregation that was trying to determine the deaf and blind population in the area. To us, what we do is helping people and the preaching work is something Jesus instructed his followers to do. If a witness coming to your door gets you so riled up that you start a thread on GAF, next time just ask them to pit you on a do not call list. We have those. We are taught how to speak eloquently and fluently in our ministry, because we want to create interest with people we meet. Sometimes we don't lead with who we are at the start due to peoples automatic bad reactions. The idea is, if we can get people to relate to us on a personal level they can be more receptive to our literature, or even the next JW we meet. Hopefully that explains what happened.

Playing Devil's Advocate (kek) here but:

They were probably calling non JW's the "deaf/blind" and justifying it via mental gymnastics to get people to open their door.

Amen...........

The open mocking in JW threads is so disappointing. A thread about Islamic religion isn't going to get all these "brave" posters who want to chime in so loudly their disdain for a faith and its people.

So I actually talked with some JW last time my house was visited and they never returned. Nothing crazy I just like listening to people discuss their religion sometimes because I find it interesting. But they haven't visited me since. It's been about a year. Maybe they didn't want me lol.

i think it's really just the door-to-door thing that bugs people. but if there's local JW do not call lists then awesome, i'll remember that for the future.

The entire crux of JW is "misinterpreted" scripture, where they will put in a few words that change the entire meaning of a verse. The least the deserve is some pity.

I think selling your religion door to door is pretty rude, IMO. I have a No Soliciting sign on my door for a reason, and it's like every JW and signature seeker don't know the definition of the word. If I wanted religion, I'd seek it out.

I'm not sure if you're aware, but there are many different interpretations, sects and denominations of Christianity out there.

Just answer the door like this:

My father has a bad habit to invite them in, offer them tea, and debate theology and bible studies for a pair of hours.

I think i've seen one of them leave in tears. Most of them were pretty happy though.

Maybe get rid of dangerous bullshit like denying blood transfusions and modern medicine to members and children and we'll stop mocking.

And no, it's not a personal choice. I looked it up after the last thread. It's as much a personal choice as living but being disowned and shunned by your family and community or dying due to lack of care.

Please. Islam gets plenty of mockery too (and plenty of butthurt apologists who whine about islamophobia and "respecting beliefs", as if any belief were inherently worthy of respect).

JWs's beliefs are dangerous nonsense and they annoy the population with unsolicited door-to-door preaching. It deserves all the scorn and mockery it gets.

Why do missionaries always knock at my door at 8am or 9am on saturday mornings?

Like jesus fuck, let me sleep in.

But then again there is a kingdom hall about 10 minutes from my house, so I shouldn't be shocked.

My grandmother who is a Baptist told the ones who came to our door off. I mean she was harsh about it but at least they didn't come back.

In my former VBS warrior days, I had to do research on them and their scripture usage. Well aware of their tactics.

Yep, it's honestly sad, they don't even get the charismatic leadership or societal advancement of joining a proper cult. They get all the overwhelming negatives of congregational Christianity with the added weirdness of being a cult and thus, designed to bilk them out of their money.

Pity really is the only think you should feel for them.

Kinda glad the Jehovah's Witnesses in my city tend to just stand around handing out pamphlets and not really bothering anyone. I can respect that. Haven't had one bother me at home for years.

What if Jehovah is just down the street passing out new eyeballs and ear drums OP? In all reality, you should never open the door for anyone you don't know.

I'm a former Witness and have no love for them, but they really don't bilk people out of their money. No idea where that idea comes from. There's no mandatory donations, no payment scheme for advancement, no tithing.

At my congregation there was a little box at the back of the hall you could drop donations into, if you were inclined, and they rarely if ever mentioned it in their services.

I used to be one. Nobody is forced to give money, people do it on a voluntary basis. There isn't anything malicious about it.

I'm related to them about 60% on my dads side, some times maybe once every 3-5 years my nan beings round her group of jehovas witness friends and then my dad invited them in for tea, it is slightly awkward, but we treat them with respect, although admitedly i make fun of the stuff in private.

I am not offended by this thread, i am not a Jehovas Witness myself, i have no religious interest neither does my father, each to their own, when people mock in this thread i do not feel like they are insulting my family, even though some people may feel differently.

I respect my family and their choice, they know i'm not interested even though they do bring it up once in a blue moon "we know you arent interested, but we will just leave this here, oh thanks nan or aunt" and in the bin it goes.

I feel sorry for them and their views on the world and i disagree against the whole blood transfusion stuff etc, may dad and other family members on dads side have had arguments and falling outs with the JW members on dads side.

I am under the impression from reading some of their material that JW members are meant to shun non practising family members Or they too will be shunned, however thats never happened, all my JW actually bother to keep in touch with us non Believing family members, we haven't been shunned neither have they, maybe i misread/misunderstood.

Also from what i can gather the JW are racist and homophobic, which is not cool at all in my books, thats so dissapointing even though my family memebers haven't done anything to make me belive they are racist, they certainly have shown homophobic tendancies.

Jehovas Witnesses are pretty obnoxious around here. They rang my door for months and months. I always saw them on the door camera but never answered them so they just came back the next week at exactly the same time lol.

If you had answered and told them you weren't interested, they wouldn't have come back.
