Jewish groups cancel annual High Holidays call with President for obvious reasons

American Jews voted over 70% for Hillary. That was before all this shit went down. I'm sure the number would be even higher now.

Most American Jews are liberal and aren't all that religious. All my friends are very much against Israel's West Bank settlement policy. I don't know many American Jews (other than maybe the ultra-orthodox) who are for what Israel is doing.

So when people come into threads like this and paint all Jews with a broad brush, as though they support all of Israel's policies, they are very much off base.

The Orthodox/Modern Orthodox ones, though- basically the ones who are very religious and observant- are often Republican because they prefer their stance on Israel. From what it seems, many (not all of course) of them are single issuer voters based on who is more pro-Israel. And yes, ultra-religious Jews are certainly the minority in the US.

I am not Jewish personally but I worked at a Modern Orthodox Jewish non-profit for a while and saw this a lot. Some of my coworkers were Reform Jews and really disliked the pro-Israel-no-matter-what stance of the Orthodox groups.

I agree. You can still support a country while vehemently disagreeing with the current government. (ie: Trump). It's a nuance lost on many people which is why I agree with the broad brush statement.

That's really no different than it is in Israel, where the Orthodox are the ones who have a very strong coalition in the Knesset. Most Jews in general, Israeli or otherwise, (at least the ones I know) aren't Orthodox and don't agree with a lot of Israel's policies.
