You remember I told you to relax about Superman? That a very, very trusted and experienced director we'd all love was coming over? That McG was just a blip? That everything would be fine?

Well, my same good buddy has informed me that, as of last Thursday night, Mister Jim Caviezel is officially the new man of steel and what a perfect choice he is. Expect an announcement shortly. Also, this Superman Returns thing was just for the press release. The movie itself is called SUPERMAN (Reeve's was called SUPERMAN THE MOVIE) and it's starting everything from scratch. Brainiac. Krypton. Robots. Alien super-cities. There's so much we can do now that they couldn't in 78. I cannot WAIT for this.

Slipping into cryogenics chamber and wish to be woken in July 04.

i can se the fights right now though....

"Judas, you will betray me."
*punches Judas through a wall*
"It will take more than that to end me Messiah!"
*Judas fires lazers from his eyes and burns Jesus' shoulder*
…and I would go on with the rest of the fight but I think I've damned myself to Hell enough as it is.

had to laugh at that. :D

god they're starting from scratch. The entire world knows his origin for petes sake. Everytime there's a surge of comic movies, they're the same stories told over and over and over. @_@

I don't mind if they start from scratch if it's quick and Brainiac is the bad guy. That's awesome. I'm not too keen on Caviezel as Superman, though. He's old and pretty thin. He's going to have to work out like a mad man and get a lot of daily makeup work to even remotely look like Superman. He's a better actor than Dean Cain or Tom Welling, though.

Who would watch Superman besides people who know of him? I don't see that many who don't know of Superman will go watch the movie. It's not likely you will hear from someone who watch the movie will say "Whoa, I didn't know he was an alien!!!" I think it will hurt the movie more if they start it from stratch, assuming they start with his origin. If(and a big IF) some people don't know of his origin and like the movie, then wouldn't that be in DC best interest? People who liked the movie but don't know much of Superman would buy comics to learn more.

Superman has always been a Jesus parallel anyway - being sends his only son to protect, blah blah blah.

I just don't know that this cat will make me picture Superman, unless they plan to depower him some. I don't see Caviezel as awe-inspiringly powerful.

yeah but I always think people are reaching when they say that. Because really Superman was sent because his planet was going kaboom, not because Jorel was "Go protect these earthlings!". I hope the movie doesn't do all of that god stuff again. I want a good superman story, not Jesus in a parallel universe.

I hope this turns out to be true. I'll admit from the looks department, Cavaziel may not be the best choice, but at least you'll know he'll turn in a great performance. Hopefully the script will be up to the task.

I'm biased anyway. Superman will forever be Alex Ross's Kingdom Come version for me. That's the only one that really resonates with me. Unfortunately that's also the only one that can never come close in real life casting.

Anybody else here seen those pics of Christian Bale in 'The Machinist'? Holy cow... @_@

If he can do that then turn right around and play Batman, then... why couldn't Caviezel bulk up to play Supes?

How can ANYONE argue with Jesus=Superman casting? Seriously.

Now we just need Ron Burgandy to get the inside scoop from Superman himself.

Uh, hate to break this to you folks, but in the past, Mark Millar has also stated that Adam Sandler was a definite lock for the Green Lantern role.

It's not official until it's confirmed by Warner Bros.

Heh, this is getting crazy.
First, Jesus = The Green Goblin.

now Jesus = The Green Goblin = Superman

Jim is a perfect fit. Much better than any other name that has been put out there. I don't think they can screw this movie up. They have all the right people. It would be cool if it followed some of the designs from Superman: Birthright which was like a retelling of Superman's origin in modern times. The Kryptonian designs in that series were cool.

I am just sad about X-men 3, I hope they continue the story line or at least leave it open for Singer in the future. I mean a high profile project like Superman than rolling over into X3 would be good for Marvel. I know fox is mad at Singer for going to Warners but it is their own fault. They should have signed him sooner. Singer said he would still like to produce the film if it's possible. Whoever is the next X-men director they better not mess with the cast or storyline that is established and Colossus better still have a bigger role in part three. At least Fox can try to get the writers back and some other key members of the film crew.

Aint it Cool News concurs, saying Caviezel isn't even in the running, nor is Welling/Cain.

I was gonna make a bad star of david made of Kryptonite joke, but I don't want to get banned or anything (hey, I'm dating a Jew girl, so I can make jokes).

Jim Caviezel being Superman is the best choice next to Reeves. I can actually see Jim surpassing Reeves as Superman. This is way too good to be true! :)

Jim has the acting chops, but like Willco said a lot of work needs to be down. I pretty confident that he can do it if chosen--we should keep in mind that Christopher Reeves also had to hit the gym hard before putting on the cape. He wasn't chosen for having a Superman physique.
