Colbert brought Spicer onto the Emmy awards as a surprise and used him to poke at Trump.
It wasn't a great idea and it was fairly tone deaf. It was also one moment in 10 years of Colbert going in on Republicans and helping to educate young viewers on politics. Some people have decided to say, "Fuck Colbert," based on one decision they disagreed with, as if he went Bill Maher on everyone.
I generally agree with what Jason Isaacs said in his Instagram post but I also don't think it's that big of a deal in the long run. Certainly not enough for me to jump to "fuck Colbert." I don't expect perfection, I expect people to generally do the right thing and he does, 95% of the time.
The ease at which liberals can tell people who are on their side to "fuck off" because they do one thing disagreeable is really depressing and needs to change if we want to make legitimate pushes forward in 2018 and 2020. Look at their entire body of work, not singular moments.
For example, Kimmel having Spicer on just last week and taking a selfie doesn't make the impact of his multiple monologues on health care any less impactful.

I thought the video was incredibly moving. it was great how he pointed out that his son already has health insurance and he doesnt need the money. he is doing all this for regular americans like us and people still want him to go away. I will never understand this.

People think it's hip and cool to be like "rich liberals hate u, like and subscribe to more hot takes from this Twitter account instead" when said rich liberals (Colbert, Kimmel) are where a lot of people get their news from. Which is important in getting away from the purity test thread derails, in discussing how well spoken Kimmel has been on this issue.
The only elected voices I've heard against this legislation have been Elizabeth Warren and Bernie. They need these late night hosts and talk shows to disseminate information when every other Democrat is too busy fundraising or some shit to have a voice.

First of all, not all conservative-leaning people watch Fox News obsessively. There are enough persuadable people on the margins to have a decent impact.
Also, this is also about motivating your own base. So we do need famous liberals to start screaming about this stuff so that our own people show up to vote next year and relentlessly pester these GOP assholes with protests and phone calls and office visits.
That's not true. If enough people realize what the hell is going on then it does make a difference. It certainly helped last time when you had TV footage of people in wheelchairs being dragged out of senators' offices. What's going on now with repeal is unpopular everywhere including red state republicans. This is about taking healthcare away from millions of people whose lives literally depend on it. Republicans have lost the fight on Healthcare as a service among Americans. Last Trumpcare repeal plan just had 12% support.

This illustrates a problem with the mentality of many people. Nobody is perfect and no one is going to do everything you agree with. That doesn't mean you should be so sanctimonious as to disregard every position they hold and every point they are trying to make.

This might come as a big shock but the fact that he is willing to play nice with all sides gives his voice more authority. It's harder to write someone off who is friendly and willing to listen to you.
Here is why this is important. Kimmel's son has a heart defect called Tetralogy of Fallot. I have it as well. There is no fix or cure. There is just treatement. Life long treatment. His son will have future open heart surgeries. There is no diet, or exercises, or any life choice that will prevent future surgeries. One day, he won't be Kimmel's son, He will be just another person born with a condition that needs life long treatment. If he continues to live in the US, and the ACA gets replaced but a form of healthcare that existed before, he will be denied treatment. We all have. Unless he is somehow super rich, and just because his Dad is well off now, that means little in the future.Kimmel knows this and is using his influence now to make that future better for his son.
I think this hyperbol isn't helping things. Republicans aren't trying to destroy health care. They are doing far worse. They are trying to take it back to how it was in the early 2000s. Where health care exists on two levels. a premium level which they and other upper class will enjoy, and a basic level for workers only to keep them only healthy enough to keep showing up to work. Anything elses falls into charity / inspirational porn to keep the lower class scared so they won't ask for better working conditions less they end up like us. Which for most people, is all the healthcare they will ever need / want. So for the majority of people, they can't envision a better system. They don't want to.
It's a consequence of the caricature that SNL made of him. You saw something similar with Bush, where people started treating him as the lovable, in-over-his-head frat boy that Will Ferrell portrayed him as.
Anyway, Spicer isn't what this thread is about. Kimmel has every right to be outraged by Cassidy's brazen lies, and every American should be.
SNL invented the whole "invite the target in on the bit" when they had Tina Fey and Sarah Palin appear together. Malcolm Gladwell goes into this, and Colbert's career on the Colbert Report, in S1E10 of Revisionist History (his best episode).
Cassidy's been on television today responding to Kimmel's monologue and having to say that he's not a liar, which might actually persuade right-leaning people to look into his claims.

Not a Kimmel fan but I could tell that he was being heartfelt in his disgust over Cassidy. Hopefully his response to this bill will help bring more awareness to the fight against it and the GOP.

It was a silly moment that I think people were too caught up over compared to bigger issues from the past week such as those who are actually good at their jobs in the Trump Administration (Ex. Conway & Fox News), Hurricane relief, and this bill. Imperfect Allies vs. Deadly Enemies.

Kimmel going in on this allows for an audience that thinks other late night hosts and whatnot are too "political" and go out to avoid them. Kimmel's sort of walked the line, he's not all in one way or the other when it comes to presenting stances of his politics. So this kind of cuts through that "safe space" and maybe, just a bit, might turn people on to some serious issues that they think "oh it doesn't concern me" or "eh, whatever" (see: my mother - complains a lot but really doesn't know what's going on).
