I'm genuinely surprised so many seem to have an affinity for Arthur. I spent the whole game thinking he had special needs.
I just think you misread him. Arthur is a very capable guy and one tough son bitch. Arthur had a morale code despite being in a violent gang. He wan't like Micah who loved all the killing and robbing. Arthur is a very complex character that seems simple on the surface. I am not saying he was a saint because he did a shit load of bad things. I just think he was more layers than you give him credit for.

Nah, he was a gullible simpleton. I wish there was something more profound about it.

John shacked up with and married a prostitute after the entire gang banged her out. Arthur wins by default no matter how woke he acted.

We also start his story when he's entering a change of heart/life stage change, given the TB, so we see him at what might be his moral best.

Arthur sucked ass, the muh 21st century morals cowboy who loved feminism and his mixed race friends, and hated committing crimes.
Yeah right, the cowboy gang of criminals is actual a bunch of good guys with hearts of gold who love every one and preach tolerance. Like who tf actual eats up this slop?
Outside of the obvious Rockstar North elements (side mission stories, Arthur's insults, best gore in existence, etc.) RDR2 looks and feels like a game made by Bethesda.
Chapters, heavy focus on reading, sketch book diary, dream catchers, excessive: cursive, spirituality and morality - Not Rockstar.
Every Rockstar game ever made promotes tolerance.
Arthur's tolerance crosses a line when he allows himself to be victimized by children or drugged and violently sodomized by a hick with no built-in retribution missions.
There should be a side mission where Arthur gets payback on the predator via one of the more terrible American Indian methods (burying up to neck and covering with honey, etc.).

Arthur. John is a pussy.
You're thinking of Jack or RDR2 'family man' John.
RDR John is more badass than Arthur by virtue of not being 'spiritual' or deathly ill.

Arthur is a better character, but John is a MUCH better video game cowboy.
not sure if arthur is a better character, but definitely more fleshed out and presented with more nuance.
but... before every firefight i swear i could hear him say "aw here we go again" and he kept reminding me of lennie from of mice and men

I'm sorry my memory is just a bit fuzzy here, but can anyone remind me if Arthur tamed the the horses of the Apocalypse, killed zombies, and wiped out the lazy Sasquatches that have been taking up valuable resources and stealing jobs from hard-working Americans?

John was a bumbling idiot. Arthur was a man's man. He's the real cowboy type and motherfucker still went on for a while with TB. Dude is the fucking man, and I love John, but Arthur was tough as fuck.

I thought this was a poll on who was the better character. John is the better cowboy and arthur is the better character.

Arthur Morgan. Roger Clark is a lot better actor and brought a lot more range to his character.

John Marston is also a great character but his character felt kinda flat in RDR2.
