Star Wars junkie Jon Stewart will be spending some quality time with franchise creator George Lucas this August, EW.com has learned exclusively. The Daily Show host will interview Lucas live in a one-hour conversation at Star Wars Celebration V, an annual fan convention, in Orlando, Florida, Aug. 12-15. In their conversation, dubbed The Main Event, Stewart and Lucas will discuss the history of the Star Wars saga and delve into the arcana of the multi-billion-dollar series. Stewart is a huge Star Wars fan — Lucas appeared on Stewart’s show back in January when the filmmaker was promoting his book, George Lucas’s Blockbusting, and the two had great banter with each other — but fans who may be worried that Stewart won’t ask their hottest burning questions can submit their own at www.starwarscelebration.com. Also on tap for the convention this year is Star Wars icon Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia) plus the actors who played C-3PO, Bobo Fett, Chewbacca and others. The official Lucasfilm-hosted event will also feature Star Wars Laser Tag, a Star Wars Celebration Chapel and sneak peaks into Star Wars: The Clone Wars. And of course, a fan convention would not be complete without a costume contest. Star Wars Celebration will feature four pageants for fans to model their intergalactic finery. And for those who can’t wait to see Lucas and Stewart, here’s a reminder of their chemistry together earlier this year.

This sounds great.

I remember that Stewart lightly jabbed Lucas with a comment or two on the prequels, here's hoping he really digs in deep and asks Lucas some hard questions.

Not being rude to the OP, but saying this aloud: "Who cares?" Fuck this guy. He has nothing to say and hasn't made anything of value in almost 30 years.

John Stewart will suck Lucas' cock for the first 55 minutes and then the last 5 work in a quick comical jab to remain cool his followers who hate Lucas and his body of work.

Yes, and if he can interview George Lucas, any of us can

I personally think this man is one of the most overrated individuals in any profession to have ever existed.

Very true :lol .

Edit: Yeesh, lots of Stewart hate (I think...). I really like Stewart's interviews, so this should be good. Only if he harps and harps on the prequels, however.

Seriously? 30 years?

He's been a major factor in the push of technology. Cameras, theater equipment, higher standards for audio, editing software (EditDroid eventually became Avid)...people may not like the stuff he's made with all this tech, but in general its benefited everyone.

I wish more people asked him about that sort of stuff. Because the Star Wars questions they keep asking him are simply intolerable.

So, George used his Star Wars money and influence to hire a bunch of young, talented people that created this technology under his name. BFD

Why is that a bad thing, exactly?

This is Jon Stewart we're talking about. He'll probably ask George Lucas some uncomfortable questions that reflect on that.

If that was a measure of a director's worth, James Cameron would've been celebrated as th... ahhh fuck it.

Creating the tech is useless if noone adopts it. Yes, Lucas thought of something he wanted to push for and hired people to make it happen. But he also was the one out there advocating for it among the movie industry establishment who are notoriously resistant to change. Theater standards, especially in audio, were absolutely dreadful in the past. He took the financial risks when noone else was really willing to.

The experimentation is still going on today - they've been looking into using HD DSLR cams for his latest project for close-up/tight shots where larger cameras may not be practical.

It's not a comment about his directorial abilities, more of a comment about affecting change and progression in the industry at large. You can have a different opinion on him as a director, but it doesn't necessarily apply to other things he's done in a different capacity.

I admit, I may be a bit biased working for one of his divisions, but his work has ultimately helped create a ton of job opportunities for many of us in the fields of visual effects, animation, editing, audio post-production, and hardware and software development and helped advance progress in several fields. Is he the main reason for all this? Of course not. But to deny he was a major factor in helping get it all get kickstarted just because you don't like some of his movies is naive.

And he's also a great father!
Generally when people talking about filmmaker making something, they mean movies.

I don't think anyone will argue that he's not an influential filmmaker.
But I do agree with ToxicAdam (gasp!) that he had not made movie of value in the last 30 years.

Also, for the record, he didn't invent shit, he paid the money for the people who invented them.
True, he put much more emphasis (both in term of time and money) on special effects than you average director (especially your average director pre Star Wars and especially your average director not called Cameron) so in that sense you can call him a trail blazer.
But man, that's one shitty trail to blaze.

Last time Lucas was on the Daily Show, they both just laughed at fans' complaints and said they were taking it too seriously, so I doubt you'll get that.

And you've done what exactly of note?

Yet people celebrate people like Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Cameron, etc, etc, who essentially done the same thin.

I think the only reason Lucas agreed to be interviewed by Stewart at length was because, when he appeared on The Daily Show, Jon lobbed softballs at him the whole time. Here's hoping that was just a clever ploy by Stewart to get more time with this guy for some really hard-hitting fake journalism.

You realize this is being held at the biggest Star Wars convention run by Lucasfilm itself? You expect something other than light hearted fun? You also realize that Stewart is a comedian, and not a journalist?

Serious Business.

BTW, when the fuck are they bringing the Celebration events back to Indianapolis? I missed out on the last one, and I really want them to bring it back. :(

You're fucking joking right? All three of those guys have made (or had their name on) a plethora of products that were equally as amazing or groundbreaking as the first thing they have done.

All of those people are celebrated because they're great in their chosen profession.
George Lucas is not a great filmmaker.

And they have done nothing since on that same level, yet they are still put on a pedestal for their technical achievements when all they are doing is paying other people to create everything. ILM, THX, Skywalker Audio, and all the films that he has done, love em or hate em, Lucas was involved in their creation to some extent. Big fucking deal as you put it, obviously though some people care though.

George Lucas acheived fame as a FILM MAKER. Not a key grip in Hollywood. So, he should be judged by the films he makes (the product), not the process for which they are made.

Imagine if Spielburg stopped being prolific after Close Encounters and for the next 30 years he produced movies at a rate like old people fuck and they were all bad facsimiles of that original movie? He would be a laughing stock, just like Lucas deserves to be.

Third trilogy isn't coming for quite some time i'm sure.

First they are going to roll out the T.V series and let that go on.

10 years from now, Knights of the Old Republic the movie gets announced, fuck yeah

Hes done a lot of shitty shit, thats no doubt, but hes also been involved in many other things. This is a SW convention so obviously it's not going to be picky about his past offerings since all they are going to care about is the actual good things he was involved in for the most part. It's not like hes being hailed or getting an award for good filmmaking here which I doubt anyone is going to invite him to either.

I don't personally care either way about him and think the best for the Franchise is if he was gone from it, but this is about him being celebrated for what the fans liked of his.

Of course I realize. That's why I called it "fake-journalism" silly.
