Like I said when I was watching that Steiners vs Muta/Chono match, Muta was over. Not hugely over, but he had some fans out there. And Chono got some heat. And the big thing was that WCW fucking acknowledged their past achievements, which is huge in getting some 'foreign talent' over. Rather than vague terms like 'international superstar', why is he an international superstar? He just is. shut up, Maggle.

WCW was much better than WWF about putting over foreign talent, even as 'non main eventers.' I don't know if that's because of the NWA history or what.

I think it's because WCW didn't see a problem with acknowledging people's accomplishments outside of their company because they thought it would generate more interest in their product. WWE doesn't have to care because there isn't a competitor for people to jump to so they can continue pretending that nothing of consequence happens outside of their little bubble.

I think it was mostly because WCW had working relationships with those companies, whereas WWE hasn't had a working relationship with a foreign company since the late 80s. WCW was putting over their partners. WWE would be putting over competition.

Is it competition when it's in a different lanaguage, in a different country, that's not currently legally accessible? Even when WCW put over their past, they talked about how they came to WCW to make it big. That WCW was still the pinnacle.

You can't bring in a guy as an 'international superstar' when you don't tell us WHY you just say that he just is one. It reminds me of the Kama The Fighting Machine promos. Like, why am I supposed to think this guy is some kind of badass when all you're showing me is him on a bike? You couldn't film some fake martial arts tournaments of him squashing dudes?

Sure you can. They do it all the time. WCW put the actual past over because they had working relationships with those companies they were taking guys from. WWE didn't, so it makes little sense for them to talk up other promotions, considering how WWE has traditionally been an isolationist company. You did have Josh Matthews talking up a lot of Japanese companies on Velocity, though. Usually for jobbers or guys like Spanky.

Well they haven't announced a person's signing on WWE.com since Sin Cara. Yeah he didn't turn out too well but that was due to many factors which won't be affecting KENTA.

If they want a Japanese star to increase interest from Japan (for instance Network buys when it launches there), he would be a safe bet.

KENTA is getting pretty big hype from WWE which is really cool.

Just like Sin Cara in Mexico.

He fucked up more than WWE though so I'll remain optimistic. Regardless, NXT should be great for a while. Kent with Sami, Nevill, Kidd and Gabriel? I'm drooling at the thought.... And that's without bringing Cesaro down for a Kenta feud...

Meh, I guess. But it's not like a free boost in Japanese sales. KENTA has been low in popularity in Japan for years due to barely improving and being stuck in NOAH

But they aren't signing one of his rivals. They are making ghe same mistake as they did with Ain Car by not signing Averno....

Remember when they signed Sin Cara and had him fight Del Rio over and over again, and each time everybody watching thought one would legit die in-ring

What I'm saying is maybe not doing that again is a good thing

Congrats to him for making it this far. I'm sure there will be a lot of bumps given WWE's track record with Asian stars, but they're starting off right.

Who is Paul Levesque and how is he relevant when it comes to pushing great in-ring performance?

Tenay is so fucking good as the third/fourth wheel commentator putting over foreign talent and calling their flippy indie shit moves in WCW. It's been one of the highlights of watching all this WCW.

It's frankly staggering the amount of ways WWE can, and most likely will, fuck up KENTA, Steen, and Devitt.

I have hopes for Devitt, since they had to go to great lengths to sign him which should encourage them to push him hard, to make back their investment.

You're wrong. Tenay always sucked. He just sucked less when he wasn't the lead guy. He was basically like a message board poster doing color. He knew the names, but also said shit in the nerdiest way possible and would always try to drop references and think he was super smart for doing so.

Rosa Mendez was going to be cut during this last round, but her getting picked to be on Total Divas season 3 saved her job. They decided to cut Aksana instead.

Should have been big show and compuserve.

Stro's right in that he did sound like a total message board nerd but his ability to put over the accomplishments of the foreign talent was incredible and added something to every match.

Schiavone+Tenay+Madden though is the absolute fucking worst WCW commentary team (that doesn't include that one off Brain+Bischoff PPV) because the chemistry between Tenay and Madden is a pure dose of poison.

I don't think Vince is the problem, I think it's Dunn and maybe Hayes because he is a meme here.

Vince is a major part of the problem, but Dunn is a major part of why Vince is a major part of the problem. They both need to go. Vince is just too old to be doing this, but Dunn is downright poisonous.

I think cynicism regarding KENTA is justified, since we have like 20 years of history on our side.

I say he'll be coming out to Hatsune Miku while eating a box of Pocky until WWE proves otherwise.
I can understand the cynicism toward Asian wrestlers making it, but people with Kenta's style, size, and ability (and literally most of his moves) have been the biggest stars in WWE for the past few years. He can absolutely be world champion.

Whatever good points Schiavone had, they were obscured by his constant shilling. Also, everything can't be the best ever, Tony. Not every night was the greatest night, not every twist and turn was the most explosive in the history of out sport. A lot of it was flat-out mediocre and, sure, it was his job to sell that shit as the best it could be, but there's a fine-line between when it is and isn't too much and it was a line Tony crossed continuously.

I remember when Stephanie was the one the internet always blamed. Now It's Dunn.

There can be only one.

It's not like there wasn't a lot of backstage dirtsheet rumourzzzzz about how awful Stephanie was, either, if you choose to believe that stuff.

When they say that KENTA will be apart of the NXT roster, do they mean he will be in the show ASAP or will he have to spend a couple of months in the performance center? He's not exactly young, so I hope they don't take the slow route with him, he really doesn't need the training.
