wait, is stinkles formerly outerworldvoice? i wanna say i recognize the tag
So you bought it early and I am assuming you know that people have been banned before for playing early released games while signed in. So why'd you do it?
Your post just makes you seem like such a victim and Microsoft is so evil.
If the store told that consumer they couldn't give them a receipt, do you think it's on the consumer to question why?

Hundreds of stories of people getting banned for playing Halo 4 early, and you go ahead and do it anyways?
Yeah you deserve what you got.

Banning people for that kind of stuff is completely stupid... Since the issue resides on people playing the game while being connected to the xbox live, why doesn't Microsoft just put some kind of timelock like steam does? If the current date on MS' severs is anterior to the release date, you can't play the game. Bam.
That way, no one gets banned for no reason.

I didn't ask him to rat anyone out

Getting banned for PIRATING and playing Halo 4 early.
It might be anti-consumer, but I'm with MS on this. They have to ring it up on the day? Maybe you bought it legitimately, but they didn't sell it legitimately, and you were aware of that. If you chose to be party to a company circumventing the system, you're as to blame as they are.
I imagine MS will undo it though.
EDIT: Oh, they are, cool.
They've gotten banned for playing pirated copies early. So you bought it early and I am assuming you know that people have been banned before for playing early released games while signed in. So why'd you do it?

Doesn't matter, Microsoft plainly said anyone playing Halo 4 early will be banned.
He didn't listen.

I'm a fan too.

Being banned for early legit copies is something new, afaik.
Have to agree with this.
C'mon man, you knew better. I agree it's bullshit that they went as far as banning you but still, you knowingly bought a game that shouldn't have been for sale. You brought this on yourself.
Why is it the consumer's responsibility to know when a game was released? They did nothing wrong purchasing a product that said it would work in their Xbox 360 and would have online multiplayer.

That's assuming the OP even knew Microsoft said that. It's not like Microsoft sent everyone an email saying they'll ban everyone for playing Halo 4.
But on topic, I don't think you can get banned for playing a legitimately bought copy of Halo 4

Yup, as a result customer gets banned for MS's incompetence. Its nice MS is able to fix the problem for the OP, but it should not have gotten to that point in the first place.
I can't say I'm familiar with Stinkles/Frankie, but I genuinely and thoroughly appreciate him jumping to the rescue.

Assuming the truth, he is a victim here. Now, he of course is a bit on the wrong side of the situation because he has a product that's not supposed to be for sale with no receipt to prove he didn't steal it, but still a victim.
The OP just proved that you can...
What if someone was just busy during that day with their job? Were they really living under a rock?

In the general sense, I would not hold the average consumer responsible for knowing when the street date of a game is. If a consumer walks into a store and the store sells the game, the consumer should instead assume it is OK to purchase and play the game. (That being said, I would also do just as Microsoft did. Ban first, ask questions later. There is a certain history with Halo that cannot be ignored.)
In this specific sense, that is not what happened at all. But I would not assume this scenario is the "normal" scenario.

How does it make any sense to ban someone for playing a game a retailer sold early?
Also, I don't have a receipt. Bought it from a local game shop; they said they'd "ring it out" on launch day. Obviously a bit shady- but far from fucking stealing.
He willingly and knowingly bought it before release.
The big question I have is why did he sign in?

I call bs on this.
Reviewers have had the game for weeks. MS can differentiate retail from hacked, otherwise havent the journos been banned?
MS has the right to enforce their street dates. It's the store that deserves the blame in this case, not MS or the consumer, since they broke their contract.Cant believe people are defending MS on this.
Honestly, don't even really give a fuck if I have to buy another console. I'll deal.
