*face palms*

Now this is a good way of highlighting recent actions.

If I didn't know better I would assume it's a normal for European children to grow up in an environment where supremacist views are shared because the amount of comments saying all kids do this is disturbing and I see why race relations throughout the world is bad for people claiming to be black.

he always reminded me of a person who likes to hangout with black people and be "cool" , but privately around white friends acts like a racist but uses the excuse" but i have black friends". have known too many of these types. i'm sure all his music friends will give him a pass tho.

He hangs around blacks when its good for him.

He is a piece of shit.

Terrible thing for him to do, but he was 14. Everyone does dumb stuff when they're young.

Can we stop this? Not everyone is racist or uses hate speech at 14.

I am 100%, genuinely creeped out by all the people in this thread insisting that blatant racism is normal shit "dumb kids" do. Makes me think racism is going to be a MUCH harder thing to combat that I already thought it was, if it's ingrained to the point that rational people think that it's normal, understandable or excusable at ANY point for ANY reason.

Telling a racist/provactive joke is actually not uncommon for young teenagers man.

You don't have to be a racist to tell a joke like this either. The joke is racist, but the teller of the joke isn't automatically racist for saying it unless you think that comedians who say offensive shit should automatically be labelled sexist/racist/whatever for saying the jokes they do. Its just that kids ARE stupid and ignorant of why they should keep their mouth shut and don't understand the implications of what they're saying.

Its very easy to sit here as an adult and forget what being a kid was like. You may have been a super, upstanding, moral and emotionally mature teen and whatnot, but most kids aren't. Don't go crucifying them for that just because you were different(if you even really were, I am highly sceptical of anybody who claimed they were morally mature at that age).

exactly. he rides the money train. i'm sure if white boy bands were as big as they were in the 90's he'd have only white friends in relation to his music career. but instead its 2014 and rap/rnb is popular and mainstream, so he hangs with black people to try and capitalize on his success. plus there's enough struggling black artists who likely don't care just as long as they can leach off Justin's career. i'm sure Usher knew about this video for years but didn't care cause of the money coming in. funny what money will do lol.

The true horrible deed here is sitting on this video for 5 years. His career could've been over before it started if someone would've just released this when it was recorded.

AND THAT SHOULD NOT BE OK.

Besides, it's not like I accidentally skipped my teenage years. I was a teenager once, too, with teenage. And that shit wasn't acceptable or treated as acceptable.

That this is legitimately used as an excuse for hate speech is, frankly, disturbing.

No one said its ok. Its just not the end of the fucking world. Some dumb shit he said when he was 14 shouldn't automatically label him a horrible person for the rest of his life.

Its forgiveable. People do change and mature after the age of 14, believe it or not.

The outrage brigade is out on full force on this, I see. Very little room for reason when this happens. You either condemn him as satan or you are DEFENDING IT, OH MY GOD WHAT IS THE WORLD COMING TO?!

Nobody I ever knew growing up outside of Houston ever said stuff like this. I wonder how much it has to do with the level of multi-culturalism in the area. In Missouri City/Sugar Land, we were almost even across the board, and I can't remember hearing the N word even once. Kids were of course mean to each other but it never crossed that line.

However, I've found multiple people since moving to Ottawa and then Montreal who think it's ok to say it as part of a joke in private. In comparison, black people are an incredibly low percentage of the population.

Perhaps the difference between learning young that it's inexcusable, vs. it's offensive and you can say it for shock value, is the fact that these youngsters have no one around to directly offend and thus feel detached from the meaning behind it? Or that the number of people is so small that they're basically ostracized from the larger community at school, and people form social groups around more racial lines?

When I was talking to Seanspeed in another racism thread several people gave me this sort of commentary.

Don't bother explaining. Nothing is racism to him.

You might be wasting your time.

Let's look at some points:

--When Americans are asked to picture a drug dealer, they describe an African American male, even though the majority of drug users and dealers in the country are white.

--Black youth are perceived as older and "less innocent" than children of other races their age.

--Enough African Americans are being exposed to enough anti-black attitudes and racial discrimination that studies have been conducted that have demonstrated accelerated aging in black men due to it.

...

--White people apprently raise their kids to believe that fostering and/or parroting racist jokes and attitudes against black people is "Ok if you're just being young and stupid", or approaches it lightly as "something all kids do."

Hmmmm...I WONDER IF CONNECTION.

some people live in areas where multiculturalism isn't the norm and racial supremacy is not so much joining a hate group but the language you hear people speak with. i remember when i was younger i was always shocked by the way people talked when i visited my mother and the area she lived in. me being from a big city where you were always surrounded by every kind of person was not used to hearing such racially charged words/phrases. so a lot of times people in those areas grow up thinking subconsciously very racist things toward people of other groups even if they weren't raised to be racist. once met a girl in my mothers town who said the N word wasn't racist because her high school teacher used it in class all the time. so you'd be amazed what happens in a racially homogeneous area . of course most of these people know better, but either don't care or would not like to think of themselves as racists. it's like willful ignorance.

Why do you keep saying shit like this when multiple people, including the guy you're quoting specifically said that they don't think the behavior is ok?

The hypocrisy is strong in this thread.

If Dr Dre can be forgiven for beating a woman 20 years ago surely an idiot teenager saying some stupid shit 6 years ago can too.

Why do you keep saying shit like this when multiple people, including the guy you're quoting specifically said that they don't think the behavior is ok?

Because, regardless of what you think, when you handwave it as "shit kids do," when you don't approach it and regard it as the heinous thing that it is, you saying it's OK. Full stop. Period.

Justin Beiber is repeating this shit on camera because nobody in his life has seriously told him that this isn't ok.

People are defending this shit in this thread because nobody stopped you as a kid and told you how wrong this shit is and the racist attitudes it passes along.

Between this and the Jonah Hill faggot thread you sure do love defending hate speech while pretending you aren't defending hate speech.

This sucks so bad. I'm dark-skinned Southeast Asian, and when I was 12, I was jumped by two skinheads while leaving the bus, on the school playground. I got jacked up in front of adults, teachers, etc. No one did shit. I had a college counselor pull the "you're not white, you don't have the right to be confident" schtick on me, screaming at me for little reason in front of an entire building. (The kid that went in before was white, playfully confident, and the counselor adored his demeanor. Since it was my first meeting with him, I thought I'd try the same as I'm normally shy) Luckily, he saw the error of his ways, and gave me a very ashamed and apologetic look the next time we encountered one another. I let it go.

People who don't look a certain way often don't get this. You're treated sub-human as a child, it fucks with you. I seen good kids turn into psychopaths.

No it doesn't. It's applying context to the situation and believing that people make mistakes, especially when they are younger, and that as long as they're learned from, that they should be forgiven. Not have it held over their heads for the rest of their lives.

Hell this doesn't even apply only to children. You're essentially saying that no one can ever do anything dumb in the past, learn from it, and be a better person in the future.

The hypocrisy is strong in this thread.

If Dr Dre can be forgiven for beating a woman 20 years ago surely an idiot teenager saying some stupid shit 6 years ago can too.

And what about his most recent work of art posted in the current page of the thread you are in?

I was defending Bieber too but come on he hasn't learned jack shit.

Hmmm, you sure are gosh darn positive that they learn from it.

I bet the people who so quickly described a drug dealer as a black male thought they were being racist. Probably not.

I bet the people who participated in a study and labeled black children as "less innocent" without realizing the goal of the study thought they were being racist. Probably not.

But regardless of what they thought, or how they felt, their anti-black inclinations feed into the very real discrimination that black people are subjected to daily. And these attitudes and ideas about black people start somewhere. I wonder where...

Where did I say that every person who has ever said anything racist learns from it? I'm saying the ones that do shouldn't be scrutinized for what they did in the past.

Just because you know about some racists that continue to be racists doesn't mean that no one in the history of the world has ever said or done something racist, and later realized that it was a mistake.

Trying to be reasonable, that's all. I dislike how people are so eager to vilify and judge others at times. I find that pretty disappointing behaviour from people who like to think they exist on some moral highground.

Not trying to defend hate speech at all, if this can even be called hate speech.

Um, you do realize that the only reason this is such a big deal is because Justin Beiber is a miserable, disgusting pile of shit, right?

It's hate speech.

But let's focus on his graffiti art instead of his adolescent dumbfuckery.

you do this in literally every thread of this type

and then youre going to say "wow its getting hot in here, im leaving" when you get put to task

I don't know I wasn't using hateful slurs like that. There's a difference between a 14 year old saying "man thats gay" and what Bieber said at that age.

You do this shit in every thread that has to do with race.
You seem to think being called a racist is worse than the actual racism.
Let's not forget the time you came into a thread bitching about the race card without having read the OP.
It is abosolutely hate speech.

I don't think you know what literally means.

And yes, I often get depressed at people's lack of ability to be reasonable and who immediately just try and interpret things said as either 'for' or 'against', as if everything is so cut and dried.

You're right though. I should probably avoid these threads in the future, cuz its very hard to discuss anything calmly and rationally.

I love how everyone that disagrees with you is just so dumb and goddamn crazy. It's really convenient.

Dude, not gonna sugarcoat it: the second you come into one of these threads and try to argue with a bunch of black people about when using the word "nigger" should and should not be considered hate speech, and the basis of your argument is "be reasonable", you are making no attempt to be calm and rational.

It's hate speech.

But let's focus on his graffiti art instead of his adolescent dumbfuckery.

I don't know the intention of his art, but a few years ago I was asked by a little autistic boy to draw a gorilla with "bling". There was no reason for his request other than he liked the idea of an anthropomorphic gorilla in an outfit he found appealing. I cringe at this art because I know what people may assume about it, even though it is completely innocent.

http://www.stutte.com/art/bling_ape.jpg

I'm only posting this to make a point, not to be ridiculed for drawing something that was not born of racism.

see

lmao

like ugh this is the icing on the cake after your defense of "reverse racism" after making up a definition for it that nobody has ever heard and then telling them that theyre wrong for arguing THAT YOURE WRONG when all you ever do is argue that YOURE RIGHT like i absolutely groan every time rofl

and i didnt even have to go through ur post history because you do this SEAUX FREQUENTLY that it was fresh on my mind rofl
