Singer Lee Hyori has been appointed as an MC on a new music program on SBS TV along with Jung Jae Hyung.

On January 16, a staff from Lee Hyo Ri’s agency said, “Lee Hyori has received an offer to be an MC on a new SBS music program. Currently the program’s title and various other details have not been decided yet; [the show] is a work in progress.” And the staff continued, “You can basically say that Lee Hyori will be the MC for this new show.”

The return of the Queen.

Man, this is perfect for some image macros. Anyone up for it?

Someone on tumblr made a gif of it looking at that little brat that was going off about his generation is doomed and things like that from the kids listen to kpop video, but the gif only loops once and I got no skillz to fix it up.

edit: daaamn at 3:13

Lol. Yeah...that fancammer got his money's worth with that angle.

A Lunar New Year special variety program featuring an idol sageuk (historic) comedy is currently in the works.

KBS has revealed that the program will be called, “The Crown Princess Project - Restoring The Royal Family” and will air as a Lunar New Year special. “The Crown Princess Project” is being called the idol version of “The Moon Embracing The Sun” and will be in a sageuk format with a comedic twist.

Many female idol stars have been cast for this special program since it will be based on a story of how a crown princess is chosen through a series of tests given by the royal family in the Choseon era.

Min will star in this program alongside with 11 other female idols, that includes IU, 4minute’s Sohyun and more. The production staff revealed that the program will be filmed outdoors. They are hoping that the female idols will be lively and energetic since they won’t be in a stuffy studio all day. The production staff are also expecting a lot of interest because the female idols will be wearing beautiful hanbok (traditional Korean clothing) dresses.

The role of the crown prince, whom all the female idols will be going after, is not yet decided. The staff said that not even the female idols know who it is right now and they will find out during the actual filming.

Uhhhh, could be funny I guess.

Gotta love these AKP article titles.

Old photo of Jessica and Donghae causes a stir

An old photo of Girls’ Generation’s Jessica and Super Junior’s Donghae has been causing a stir.

On January 16, an online community posted this photo with the title ‘Jessica and Donghae’s Past’.

The photo shows Jessica and Donghae fondly leaning their heads against each other. Many people have been gaining interest in the picture because of Dong Hae and Jessica’s young faces. Dong Hae’s hair is cut in a style that was popular a few years back and Jessica exhibits a pure beauty.

To this netizens responded saying, “Did they really date?”, “They look the same now as they did then”, and “I thought Jessica was Krystal.”

Whoa, quite the stir! It's a fucking picture.

I gave up trying to tell people here that AKP doesn't write this crap, they're pretty much a translation blog. Nate's article is just as bad. Kpop news is mostly stuff like this, what's new?

I think they might actually have written the vaguely interesting series of articles on what it's like to be a CUBE trainee themselves.

Some Ghost Protocol themed RM (you know they would shamelessly do it) would be awesome. Running around in the Dubai Tower :O

If dal Shabet can be badass and still sing a fucked up weird song it'll be the best thing ever.

Hopefully the Hyori music thing is full of laughs and not just a performance thing. What would be great is if she got a show like the now cancelled "Chocolate" where she can talk a lot with guests.

Haha thanks dude. I thought it might be from IY given what she's wearing. I just started watching it a couple weeks ago and am only up to episode 15. Great stuff so far :D

It's the first real exposure I've had to non-SNSD kpop and I was sorta worried that I wouldn't like it as much, but on the contrary, I consider myself a fan of T-ara and Brown Eyed Girls now. Messing around on Youtube led me to f(x) and I'm quite fond of their music as well now, too.

..And Hara Goo and Hyuna are freaking cute.

If you want more exposure then all you gots do is go to the op and watch videos for:

Kara
After School
Orange Caramel
Rainbow
Wonder Girls

that should be enough for now. Can toss in A Pink if you want the super-cute stuff.

Yeah I've had the OP open in another tab for a couple days now with the intention of going through a lot of those vids when I have a spare hour or so (Browsing GAF gets in the way know what I mean?). I checked out a couple Kara and 4minute videos but their songs weren't really doing it for me. One of these days I'll get to the rest of them, I swear!

The songs I seem to like all have big beats and great synths (Though of course I'm not purposely trying to limit myself): Abracadabra, Nu ABO, Roly Poly and SNSD's Show! Show! Show! before that so if you've got any other songs that would serve as good jumping off points I'd appreciate it, though it's certainly not necessary when I still have half the OP to go through.

You should check out 2NE1, like Clap Your Hands, Fire (this is like their first song, so they look way different compared to now), and I Am The Best. They're my favourite kpop group, but they sound totally different to basically all the others so a lot of people hate them since they're kind of the opposite to SNSD.

And what 4minute songs did you check out? They have more recent stuff that is way more generic pop than they sounded before, so don't judge them based on Heart to Heart or something.

EDIT: Ooo my new avatar will suit many of my posts well, never even noticed the pointing ahaha.

Thanks for those. That 2nd song is pretty good, I can definitely see myself coming back to that.

These are decent songs but they all seem to rely a bit too much on auto-tune. Musically I like I Am The Best the most and had actually listened to it before but the auto-tune on the "big boom" part almost kills it for me. I'd be lying if I said it wasn't catchy as hell though.

To answer your question re: 4minute, I watched Huh and I My Me Mine which have a good sound but just seem kinda disjointed. I just watched Heart to Heart and it was better than your post would have lead me to believe. I don't want to pigeon hole myself into looking for that "big beat, great synth" sound cause I'm sure there are plenty of quality kpop songs that aren't like that at all. For example even SNSD's super cutesy stuff like Kissing You or Echo I am way into, so nothing is out of bounds. To that end, I just watched Bubble Pop again and it's growing on me. And it doesn't hurt that Hyuna looks amazing in the vid :D

In any case thanks for the suggestions guys, they are all appreciated. I'll keep digging!

K-pop Star Episode 7: I love this show so much. Everyone should watch it. Subbed episodes have appeared.

This round the three judges could "cast" participants for two weeks training at their agency. Good times as YG, JYP and BoA fought over who would get the best ones, and also revealed a lot about their preferences as they chose ones the others didn't want. This is seriously fascinating TV, I have to say, because it feels as though the judges really put both their heart and business wit openly into it. Like, of course Simon Cowell does that with X Factor, but these there are in charge of really different agencies and yet are all artists themselves.

Fun stuff as well - a running joke this episode was YG offering BoA a contract with his label.

Hmmm, nothing is out of bounds eh? BTW, youtube quality is pretty shitty. Sounds so much better if you get 320kbps or lossless.

Momoiro Clover Z (of santa song fame) is probably the only good j-pop idol group.. I mean, they're always hideously dressed and always screechy, but it comes together as some sort of batshit insane avant garde art. Peep this.. 70s socialist anthem re-imagined as brass-heavy pop-rock in idol packaging. "Our bosses have already run away". Crazy stuff. Genuinely Good Music http://youtu.be/Krj3dwKEaSk

Doesn't hurt that they don't do gravure as a side business, like all those other creepy groups do.

Look at this amazing dance routine. Look at those ugly clothes http://youtu.be/jcqPX40Mszo

I haven't listened to all of them yet but from the list OC posted, I'd definitely give a listen to Change and Pinocchio. I'd add in Nu-Abo from f(x). That BEG song sounds pretty good so far.
It's a shame f(x) doesn't seem to get the same popularity as the other girl groups cause I think their music is pretty good.

Might I add that I think Hyuna looks so much better in Change. Goddamn she lost so much weight...

And since everything is a go here's one

More from the new IU interview.. she's eager to take more and more control, I like that.

While doing the arrangement, were there a lot of discussions with G. Gorilla?

IU:Yes. I sat next to oppa and went, "Oppa, could you look over this part please?" and he would look over it for me. So the process was really tiring. The process of conveying my thoughts to oppa. It was difficult to express the exact emotions I wanted using words, so nowadays I'm learning to make midis. (Laughs)

I'm not sure this interviewer has ever listened to Radiohead or Coldplay:

"Your original composition, 'A Stray Puppy' sounds really depressing. In your previous interview, you mentioned that you liked bright-sounding bands like 'Coldplay' and 'Radiohead', but I'm wondering why you personally prefer such a depressing mood."

Yep, been watching this as well. Would have been better if the judges offered the contestants training and the contestants then chose which agency they want to train with that offered them.
