K-Pop Fanboy/Fangirl |OT5| Controversies Over Nothing

I couldn't give three wet shits about 2NE1.
yeah my brain cant comprehend the stupidity that this is, if its the reason SM """"lost"""" the footage, they're dumber than I thought...
doesn't fuck over anyone but the fan's -____-

Absolutely, but you have to realize, SM and Soshi are in it for the long run. By doing this, 2NE1 wouldn't be able to ride Soshi's coattails and achieve success. 2NE1 is the only competition Soshi has, Crayon Poop, Stellar, Girls' Day, A-Pinkeu, Rainbow, etc. are merely pimples to Soshi's success while 2NE1 has the ability to create a huge scar despite the fact that they're floundering. On the other hand, they could reschedule this comeback to fight head-on and create the bloodbath we're all waiting for.

Regardless this is simply a precisely calculated power play by SM because they're not losing anything. They can fuck over the fans as many times as they want but these fans will crawl back dying for more Soshi anyway. They also won't lose fans if the "girl group war" does indeed occur.

Edit: Some Jungcest for the top page.

Can anyone who's been on an exchange to Korea or knows someone that has or knows a lot about Korean universities in general offer me some advice?

I can be be 'nominated' to go to Seoul National University for exchange through my University because my first choice,Yonsei University, was filled up :/ Does anyone know about the campus culture/foreigner friendliness or other anecdotes about SNU? I'm not sure if I want to go there because of the competitiveness and pressure (I think my GPA will suffer lol..). However it is the best school in Korea and the alumni connections will certainly be useful in business (my major).

However another opportunity I'm currently looking at is Hanyang University (which I don't know a lot about..does anybody know anything?) because the financial terms are pretty amazing...subsidized airfare, living accomodations, and monthly spending allowance. If anyone has any information about Seoul National University or Hanyang university, it would really be appreciated!

Not going to do the individual linking this year, it was a pain in the ass. But what I'll do is highlight some MVs, because I need a way to show my biases, right?

Dance of the month: Kiss&Cry - Domino Game
Muted video of the month: Rainbow Blaxx - Cha Cha
Brave Bros. copy/paste of the month: AOA - Miniskirt
Indiest of the indies, with 115 views at the time of posting this: Dew.y Orchestra - "살아볼게 니가 아니라도.."
Worst company of the month: DSP

Suggestions, recommendations, corrections are more than welcome ;)

I'm not exactly sure of what you're asking.
Don't let the stereotype get to you and go to Seoul University if you want experience top tier University with lots of smart people and it will look nice on a resume (if that's what you're aiming).

But you might be in a class full of other foreigners, so it doesn't matter.

When I was in Yonsei the classes taught in english was filled with Yonsei students (psychology).

If you have Korean classmates, don't expect to develop and kind of relationship with them. They are usually busy people that will never go out with you for coffee, club, trip, etc. They are kinda trapped in their own universe of studying, party pooping and doing their own shit.

Hanyang though, it seems to have a lot of foreigners, like Donguk University. It's definitely a good one, and the people there, listening to my friends talk, seems much more friendly and willing to party.

Depends what you want. To be honest I believe there's a shoe for every foot in Korea, you only have to look for it.

NyoRx, I'm sorry that I can't be of any help with your university question, but I just wanted to say that this:

is correct.

I like the new format! Obviously it's easier for you but it's also less cluttered too. I like that it's a bit more personal as well. You did the recommendations thing with the previous lists but dividing it into categories is a good idea, we get to see your preferences and the categories themselves are fun. I like it :)

Fake edit: Holy crap, 85 videos from January alone? Bloody hell.

Yeah, that's what I took away from her comment. Oh well...

To be fair, if that is the exact quote, it could be easily be taken the wrong way.
Yep. She made a comment that could me taken as disrespect to victims of an accident. Her actual intentions are irrelevant, she's a public figure and her words will be scrutinized.

Wow. Yuri and Tiff look fantastic.
Sooyoung, Queen of Hair Porn not living up to her reputation though.
Yeah, I think Sooyoung and Sunny were given a more high fashion style look, completely different to the other members. Would have preferred them to have normal looking hair (especially as they've both now got decent looking hair again, after a few rough patches this last year) but they still look great.

Jesus, what the hell is SM even doing. Now they're saying that they lost "crucial scenes of the MV" and, worst case scenario, may have to reshoot it. The single is likely to be released on the 19th still but no MV for another 2 or 3 weeks. What an absolute mess.

Let me cleanse myself with The Queen:

It does smack of desperation, I can't argue with that. My point was whether we like it or not, the decision to go with this concept is working out pretty well for Stella, in that it has garnered the group far, far more attention than it has ever had before.
I agree with you about that, this type of promotion worked for them, but I'm not sure is the concept that worked well, but the controversy. See, if anyone continue to do this, and all the girl groups (to be honest this can happen to boy groups too) will go with sexy concept one day they will be no more news worthy, and this will probably not work anymore. That's why the groups are always going far and far with this concept, but arrived at a certain point what they will do to have attention? A K-pop channel on XYouPornTube???
lol
You're absolutely right of course. The thing is, the only time I've heard the term netizen is in relation to Korea and K-pop, so in some ways, I guess they are sort of separate from other internet users, in my mind anyway. On top of that, the netizens that get mentioned the most tend to be those that write the most stupid and/or inflammatory comments.

Yes, the term netizen technically means anyone on the internet but to me personally, it refers to a sort of amorphous mass of idiots typing ridiculous and often hypocritical shit about K-pop. It's a knowingly inaccurate use of the word but it's also a quick and easy way to label a particular subgroup of people that I enjoy making fun of. :p
I understand now, lol, my comment was more because you but not only you think that for example in Stellar case, the 1000+ people that agree with some comments are the same 900000 people watching the video or the same people who buy their music. I have my doubts about that.
Wasn't being sarcastic at all. Sexy concepts work and this is why they're used. The promos are gross though. I really don't think the MV is that bad, it's nothing smuttier than the Pussycat dolls ever did. Their song actually will chart this week and I don't think any of their older stuff did. Plus their views on Youtube are nearly at 1.5 Million their second most viewed song Study is just over 500K and that was in 8 months. It's pretty clear this has worked for them.

Look at AOA, flop until sexy concept plus Brave Brothers song then they have a hit. Pisses me off because their older stuff was actually way, way better.

Then on the flip side you look at an established group like Secret who go for a sickeningly cute concept and it does worse than any of their songs in years.

I'd be really interested to compare song popularity with the concepts and see if there's a correlation between sexy and success or not. I'm thinking yes though.
Sorry, I thought you were joking because of that smile and the fact that Stellar were not in the instiz top30. But, I see that now you were comparing the new release with their older stuff. As I have said answering to No No Eul, I think this have more to do with the fact that they are getting more attention because they have gone far than the other groups before them with this concept and so they are getting a lot of exposion, a lot of articles and a lot of reactions obviously. This works now but for how much time will it works? For how much time will this be news worthy? About the cute concept, Peru has talked about this before, but Korea is growing super fast and is still growing fast. What were people exposed to 15 years ago in Korea and what they are exposed now are obviously very different and the tastes of the people is changing according to that very fast imo. Too fast? I don't know. But it's obvious to me that at least the Stellar type of promotion (I'm talking about the one talked in the articles) is probably going too far and something that shouldn't be looked at an example to use, no matter if it works or not. I know that sex sells, everyone know that, I'm not comparing this to anything related to what girl groups have done, but if you want you can get some work by living under some company President desk
lol
, but it's really what we want to teach as an exampe to how to get a work?

Yep. She made a comment that could me taken as disrespect to victims of an accident. Her actual intentions are irrelevant, she's a public figure and her words will be scrutinized.

If that's what she said then she is indeed an idiot though. I can see why people would be offended.

It's only going to be taken the wrong way if you want to take it the wrong way. She stated a series of facts: an accident dominated press coverage; when press coverage is dominated by other events you have to work harder to be noticed.

It's ridiculous to think that anyone with half a brain could be upset by the statement of a series of facts. There is no disrespect presented when all you have done is present a series of facts, despite what people might want there to be. Anyone who thinks otherwise is willfully adding meaning where there is none. If she had said something like "we deserved the attention, not the accident" it would be disrespectful. Did she? No. This sort of shit is the most rampant problem on the entire internet. Instead of applying a modicum of critical thinking in situations like this people just lash out with their emotions without applying any sort of logic. They read between the lines to see shit that is not there. If you simply read what is ACTUALLY stated it's much better.

I challenge anyone here to find a negative thing in her statement that isn't the result of you filling in the blanks between her words with your own ideas. The problem is that most people on the net are more than willing to fill in those blanks with their own bogus ideas.

Sunmi's mini is really good but this is another classic case of how the album tracks are better than the title track.
The one with Jackson of GOT7 has a very R&B Drake feel to it.

I don't know why you're so worked up about this. I think you think this is a bigger deal than it really is? I guarantee you most people don't know about this and don't give a shit. It's just a bunch of negative comments on an article - you get them on any kind of news article about any kind of person anywhere in the world. Just because it's on netizen buzz does not mean this is breaking news in Korea.

But yes, people do read between the lines. And yes people will scrutinise what public figures say and find faults with them. You're gonna have to learn to accept that and just ignore it because it's not going to change.

That Rainbow Blaxx song has really grown on me, like Mach it took a few weeks before it 'clicked' for me. I suspect its because the arrangement masks the song somewhat

speaking of which, they appeared on Arirang's After School Club chat show without Woori (they speak lots of adorable engrish, have a sexy dance off, do some cute aegyo and sing 'A' a cappella)

I don't give a shit about the particular instance, because I'm not really invested in any kpop groups at all. But I am annoyed that people get worked up about this sort of thing all of the time. People are free to scrutinize what public figures say or do, but they should at least learn to apply basic logic to their reasoning.

Also, no, I do not have to accept people's bad behavior. It can and will change if more people call them out on it or don't indulge them.

No it won't, it's the internet. It gives a voice and a podium to people and it's up to you to listen or not. You complaining about it isn't going to change it, the best you can do is just not read comments like that. Same reason people don't read comments on YouTube or English news articles.

And you're not calling anyone out for their opinions (Yes, they are opinions. And they're different to yours! Amazing). You're ranting about it on a completely separate forum.

I can see how some people may have been offended by what she said. I can also see why some people wouldn't find offence in it. And I sincerely disagree that you would need to only have half a brain or be a halfwit to be offended by it.

Uh, no, it's not an opinion. The only negative meaning in her words could only have been inferred. Her actual words held no negative expression. That is a fact of her phrasing. Now, as for what may be inferred or not, that is indeed an opinion, but the content of what she said is not a subjective matter.

Anyway, for someone who seems to think it is better to ignore stuff you don't like, you sure seem to be bothered by AWF's open distaste for people attacking Minah.

One of the reasons I've always liked SKP, notwithstanding its production issues. With a group such as Spica, it helps not having to worry about hiding any of your members. Even Juhyun is decent.
