Karin announced for SFV

for me she's visually displeasing, and her visual sour me on every other aspect of her character.
Fuerte is literally a generic luchador. There is nothing remarkable about his character.

Mika gets shat on for her admittedly tacky garb; but as a character she is up there because she has an actual story other than "enters the tournament," and she has a very bubbly personality.

You asked about oni, he's litterally a demon. That sounds comically simple, yep. I don't nee all that out of my characterss sometimes. Dude can Do demons in the air and has a move where he basically murders you . I love... LOVE the " the evil i taking over my body archetype" . Its part ofthe reason I like kazuya from tekken.

Basically if your fighting game lets me play as a satan, I'll at least give it a look. Tekken 7 has 3 satans on the roster right now.
Clones are bad, m'kay.

Eurocentrism isn't just an American issue, sadly. The world has been taught (for a long time now) that certain skin/hair color/type are ideal (and in some instances superior).

I'm not even a big fan of anime or anything, but I thought it was pretty well known that the reason for this is because anime faces are typically very simplified artistically, so they use hair style and color a lot more than Western artists to differentiate characters. Consider Akira Toriyama's work; imagine if all his characters had the same hair style and color, you wouldn't be able to tell half of them apart. That's part of the reason for all the wild hair color (like blue and such) too; and it may not necessarily mean that a characters hair would be dyed if they were real.

Wow she got a redesign without altering her old design kudos for capcom after Mika reveal.

Kinda surprised Capcom removed her blue undearwear thing marks

Wonder what controversial discussion the next character reveal is going to bring.

"Guh they made Alex too american!"

"Urien is too skimpy wtf!"

"Something something Laura"

This reveal made me accept the fact that the game will get complaints for its characters no matter what. :P

SFV will be a gigantic step forward from SFIV with Alex as the US rep instead of Rufus.

But you were talking about personality. You like the evil taking over archetype, but what separates his personality from the other characters that fall into that exact same schtick/cliche/trope? None of them have personality. It's basically whether you want a purple flash screen for your raging demon or a blue flash screen for your demon.

Personality is in their playstye actions and what they say. Oni's personality is interesting because he's actually the thing akuma has been claiming to be for years. also oni has the adventage of alts, which can also speak to a characters personality.

Different types of demon play differently, they all have personality.

I can lump the types of characters you like in an archetype and say they suck too, but thats rude and doesn't actually contribute to conversation.

"Alex is blonde? Ugh come on Capcom where's the diversity? -1 sale"

"Wtf they changed Alex's hair color? Fuck off Capcom stop listening to the whiners -1 sale"

--

"Guys it's not that I can't handle naked men, Urien is just visually displeasing and killed any hype I had for SF5. -1 sale

"They actually gave Urien clothes? What a missed opportunity to appeal to women/gay men. -1 sale."

--

"Fuck Laura's sexualized outfit. How would you feel if your daughter wore that? -1 sale."

"First Karin and now Laura. Capcom afraid to show tits confirmed. -1 sale."

--

"Looks like you guys got what you wanted. Zen is a sexy Bollywood actor with a stretchy penis. Well, I'm out. -1 sale"

"Ugh of course he has to have a stretchy penis. It's a male power fantasy and isn't at all attractive to any women anywhere. -1 sale"

Twelve isn't an actually realized character. More like something the animators wanted to do. Now they're bringing back piller men that wander around ancient ruins looking for magic powers.
Glad to see I'm not the only person that thinks Necalli looks like Ultimate Kars.

He's a shotokan sure, he has a lot of different moves through. Also " clones" are fine. As long as the character is interesting and it fits the character.

I don't find mika remarkable, and visually un interesting. By the way all I said was, i like fuerte, I didn't say he was the best my favorite or anything.I think he's fine, though that baseline puts him way above mika. The reason i like fecause I ike how dumb he plays , and I also like his odd obession with cooking. Dude entered fighting tournament so he can bring food to the people of the world. Its weird as shit, but i kind of respect the hell out of that, combine your passions sure. And while, sure he isn't the most exciting looking wrestler, I like luchadors. So your " he's just a luchador " stick don't have any bearring on me. Plus alts, so you put on the rei mysterio alt and are good to go

My favorite fighting game charcters are chosen by looks, personality, and playstyle. In that order, and Mika fails the first thing so damn hard, i can't even humor the other two.

So, Chun-Li's boobs shaking obsessively when on P2 side of character select screen was a bug, right?

How have they not fixed that yet? Or did they decide they like it?

Also, can't wait for the first tournament match to end by Rainbow Mika throwing the mic at somebody.

(watching the capcom stream)

Oni is a demonic shoto clone whose name literally means demon. It's something an 8th grader would draw in their notebook.

So... akuma?

One of the most popular street fighter characters period.

Or several characters in the tekken cast, you know the highest selling non smash bros fighting game franchise in existence.

Also are talking about over simplicity in a franchise who's main dudes are two dudes in gi's . Sometimes simplicity is what works.

Maybe if you were more creative in 8th grade you would be getting paid to draw demons.

I wonder what Ken and Karin dialogue is going to be now?

Karin: Still rich?

Ken: ...Yep. You?

Karin: Yup.

It'd be cool if Ken started training her, they kind of hinted at a dynamic in their Alpha 3 rival battle.
(Karin was my main in SFA3, even though I use pretty much the whole cast.)

Dr. Doom looks like a poverty trick-or-treater.

Only this Doom
...and the black costume in umvc3 that looks like a garbage bag.

Yeah I love her persona, her wrestling is so high-flying and exciting because she's smiling and gesturing. I have no problem with her outfit, compared to male luchadores which are sometimes shirtless, it's not demeaning. The whole point of Lucha wrestling is to be flamboyant and over the top. So she fits.

Akuma came first and was a cool easter egg in SFII. When a character first appears in a series like this, it makes a strong statement, and being around forever kind of gives him a pass regardless.

Simplicity has nothing to do with it. Oni is 'we're out of money AND ideas' the character.

All the female characters look almost completely identical to their past iterations. I don't know why you'd expect any different for Karin

Well I did say half expecting, with more, you know, maybe more gratuitous zoom ins of the ass and breast jiggle just because.

Anyway, I don't like your tone mister if you want to take this outside, let's dance, but I warn you I'm not wearing any pants.

Karin's in? Awesome! She was one of the characters I most wanted to see return. The only character I want Capcom to bring back more is Ingrid, so hopefully she shows up too, even if they did make Karin and Ingrid's outfits more similar thanks to Karin's new black tights instead of the old shorts.

I don't know who you're talking about but nationality isn't an ethnic group. Someone can be British but not be white, American but be black, etc.

Y'all need to edumacate yerselves on these here terms before ya speaketh.

I didn't quite notice until a second before. I'mma say this: Capcom has always had a talent for shapely, voluptuous females, more than any other dev in the fighting game scene, easily. It's a lineage going way back to SFII vanilla.

It's a talent they seem keen to keep for SFV, and we wouldn't have it any other way.
dat ass...everyone woman should be shaped like a pear '-)
