Katawa Shoujo |OT| (VN, Free, Waifus, etc)

I've been doing about one or two in-game days a night.
Apparently, I'm on the Emi route now.

Really liking the game still, and Kenji is still my favorite character. Gets me every time!

Was without internet for a few days so finnised the last 2 i had to do, Lilly and Shizune.
I really liked Shizunes for the change of pace compared to the other routes. Lilly's was really well done especially with how everyone else seemed to get at least a little cameo
and they all seemed to be doing well, Hanko doing even better than her own route was nice and the minor make up near the end with Shizune too

Think I'm done with this game now:

Emi / Lilly good endings:
fucking so feel-good. i'm torn between emi and lilly completely. emi finally breaking down made me happy.

Shizune good ending:
actually kind of hollow and disappointing. the whole love triangle thing really progressed in an unexpected way, i was really hoping for a more concrete conclusion, but that's okay, not every story needs a happy ending

Overall fantastic storytelling and fantastic music. It was everything this game needed to be, and then some. People been wondering why I haven't been on swtor; this was worth it!

Emi's is a really fun route to pursue. Lots of funny moments in between the drama.

Well, my plans are cut short, was jamming in my basement when my guitar cut out just now. Seem to have some sort of grounding or volume pot issue so I guess I'll be trying for Lilly now

just finished all of Hanakos endings which is my first time beating the game and all I can say is...

hnnggg!

now going for Lilly since Ive spent a lot of time with her in Hanakos route after all and the latest save I have is choosing between her and Hanako

Same here. Although the issue for me when choosing to continue on another route is whether
Hanako will find happiness or not
. I mean if you choose one, then that means 4 others will not able to resolve their issues/problems.

Seems a bit bleak to me when I look at it that way.

Finished Shizune's route last night and it sucks, the writing, the pacing and the storytelling are horrible. I wonder what happened, tsk.

Now I'm reading Emi and everything is fucking awesome again. The writing is excelent, Emi is totally adorable and I can't stop laughing. The tears will probably come but man, this is great :D

Emi's path (nsfw):
I knew this game was gonna be all about tragedy porn and liking cute girls and maybe doing some missionary sex with them. I wasn't expecting anal play as well.

Oh Emi, you are so brave.

She wasn't doing anything for me until the end of the third act, it's true!

I have to try whatsit. To The Moon. I need to see if that's as good as KS. Or maybe the other way around.

And the preview for To the Moon at ShackNews was pretty interesting. It seems kind of like Eternal Sunshine in a way. I dig the 16 bit pixel art, but part of me is skeptical in that the artwork is too limited in supplementing/conveying emotion, so the onus is then on the quality of the storytelling. Still, very interesting, and at 4 hours, not a timesink thankfully.

Just began Katawa Shoujo so I can't accurately compare the two just yet, but I feel like there are some similarities in the ideas behind those two games. Can't say much more without spoilers, but To the Moon is cheap, and you can play the first hour for free, so you should try it.
It has little interactivity, just like a visual novel. It's just centered on exploring the levels rather than exploring branching paths. I really liked the game, there are genuinely touching moments in the story, with simple but engaging visuals and a great OST.

It's great to see games trying things on the emotional side. I was a bit skeptical about KS at start, I'm not really into visual novels (still I did like things like Phoenix Wright and the text sections in Nier and Lost Odyssey a lot), and when I saw the team was from 4chan, I... uh... well... was puzzled. But the game speak for itself so far, it's well written and all the girls are interesting. I seem to be on the beginning of Emi's path and I really want to see what's next. Without this thread I probably wouldn't have played it so thanks guys ! :)

Man, this /v/ thread is amazing. It's about KS, but as if it was Skyrim.

guys I tried doing a melee and healing only character with heavy armor, like a white knight or paladin, but I can't beat the final boss? anyone got any ideas? and no I wont use the console

You should have visited the village and then took the advice of the blind sage.

This fight is easy as fuck if you use a fire mage.

You can't just have your companions just hide away while you protect them and solo everything. There was some foreshadowing earlier that should have hinted this to you. I think you'll have to load an earlier save.

A lot of people seem to be having stamina issues. You'll have to either work around it or go for the companion that boosts stamina. Just do a bunch of running early on to unlock that companion quest.

There's this NPC that never talks. She and her friend keep sending me on fetch quests and pressure me into joining their guild...

I fucking hate fetch quests, but I sort of need a guild. With everyone being stormcloak and imperial, it feels like I'm the only one without a guild around here.

My character just appeared in Skyrim, so he doesn't have many friends. Maybe I should get in their guild? Does it have lots of other NPCs?
Serious question.

You might not believe me, but it's honestly just the two of them in the whole guild. The leader got the position by forcing everyone else out.

So, when should I join the Legion/Stormcloaks? After the MQ? I heard there are some side quests you cannot complete if you join the one side.

You'll have to decide soon, else you be forced into an endgame you will come to regret.

Not necessarily.

If you get either the fast companion or the unarmed combat one you should be safe to sidestep that whole event entierly

Annnnnnnnd all good ends complete. Just need to get Emi's, Shizune's, and Rin's bad ends :T

Oh god

hngggggggggggh.

Can't... stop... sketching... katawa shoujo characters...

Ah, thanks for the impressions! I didn't know there was a demo of To the Moon Floating about. I will have to seek it out after KS, as I really enjoy the premise. As for KS, if you enjoyed Phoenix, Nier and Lost Odyssey, I can safely say that KS easily eclipses them all. The subject matter is very relatable and that helps a ton in terms of emotional punch. Emi's is a great path to start on first, there are a lot of very funny parts, and it won't emotionally drain you as some of the others can.

That one cracked me up. I started another playthrough to try for Lilly but I still ended up on the Rin path somehow. That just made me sad and killed my KS boner so I went to bed :l

Got an ending way faster than I expected to (Rin).
Apparently that was a bad end. What, it was more abrupt than bad. Edit: Nevermind, that was the good ending, I misunderstood this chart
. Is it impossible to insta-skip to the choices or do I have to keep using this annoying slow skip mode? I really should just make a save at every choice.

You have to use skip mode. I don't know why it's so slow, in most VN things skip much more quickly.

Using the Xbox 360 gamepad resolves this problem.

Don't know why I can't do the same with the mouse and keyboard.

???
There's a skip button you can hit on the keyboard. It's like Tab or something. All I remember is that 'A' is auto mode. You can see all the keyboard shortcuts in the manual .pdf in the game's directory folder.

Emi done. So many emotions, manly tears everywhere
i went through the hard route (the huge fight) and everything reminded me an old relationship
;_;

Hanako or Rin, what should I do, another drama like the Emi one will probably destroy me :lol

Hanako. Save Rin for last. That shit will break you if you cried at Emi's.

I finally completed Emi's route. I decided to go back and do all the alternate dialogue and paths I missed before going into another girl. The BAD END was very underwhelming, but I thoroughly enjoyed Emi's story. She's not as melodramatic as I was expecting. If anything, she's written like an actual girl whose problems don't really define her character.

The one thing I am most impressed about Emi's route is how it treated the romance as an ongoing thing and not just a means to having sex. I was expecting the game to treat the intimacy between Hisao and her as the climax of the story, and not just another aspect of their relationship. It's about as realistic as I've seen inter-gender issues in video games, or even most media for consumption.

I was very satisfied with the conclusion. Emi's route at least is very progressive in how it treats couples, unless you believe sex scenes are nothing but an exercise on pandering. So, yeah, I would probably recommend this route to people!

The one thing that impressed me most about that, is that they've written Hisao as someone who doesn't view sex as "being intimate", no, he saw it as the two being a couple in the literal sense, because Emi still kept him at arm's length. He knew nothing about her, and acknowledged this with the admission, "Are we just two friends who happened to fuck?" It's the maturity with which their relationship was handled that impressed me most.

Since I started with Rin's first, I did Lily's last, since the post-credits carthasis is delicious and no other route has it. But if you haven't done Rin's route yet, I'd recommend it for last - the ending is the most powerful of the lot, I feel.

The other thing I liked about Emi's route was how unexpected the problem was, in a sense. I didn't even see there really being a problem for quite a while there, just like I imagine Hisao didn't see a goddamn thing.

Pancakes

hot, steaming, as melted butter slips into the cracks, drizzled with sticky sweet syrup OH GOD
Do Lilly's route

This.

I feel like Lily's ending
makes Hanako far more social on her own, not to mention that she makes up with Shizune and even Akria gets a happy ending. If there could only be one ending that's the definitely the one I would go with.

Downloading right now. I hope I don't kick myself later for doing so.

You will cry yourself to sleep tonight.

We don't really know, but I'm sure Raita -Valkyria Chronicles dude [dude?]- is satisfied with 4LS inspiration and work.

I wonder if 4LS intended for their game to inspire so many nerds to make morning runs.

I'm not in terrible shape it turns out!
